Head hunger for me is when I want something to eat but my body isn't hungry. It is confusing but when I think I am hungry I have a glass of Water and the desire goes away. Overall, I have to remind myself to eat. I forget which is the strangest concept. The surgery cuts off the part of the stomach with the hunger hormones. Some say hunger comes back down the road but not with the same vengeance as pre surgery. Also, stomach acid can mimic hunger but I haven't had to deal with that.

Are you sure we can go this long without food?
suzzzzz replied to even11's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I started adding protein on day 3. Used shakes, waters, and unflavored supplements. When can you have protein? You will feel better when you can nourish your body more. -
First solid food after surgery?
suzzzzz replied to sarajeano's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Scrambled egg with cheese. It was delish. As for bland, how spices affect folks is very individual. As are most things. Many can't handle eggs. I haven't found anything so far my sleeve doesn't like. -
If you are asked why you were gone from work, just say you had personal business to attend to. If someone asks if you have lost weight, say yes and thank you. Don't let anyone draw you into anything. Just smile and walk away.

Did you cheat on Pre Op?
suzzzzz replied to mrstkgreene's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes he provided a pre op diet.... low carb, low sugar, high Protein. I am trying to find some recipes and such. I have surgery in two days. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App I was asking about a post op diet. You should be given specific information on eating stages such as Clear liquids, full liquids, puree, soft food and then solids and how long to be on each stage. You shouldn't have to figure it out by yourself. Daily protein and Water goals.Once you get back to solids, you can use recipes. Ask your surgeons office for that kind of info. -
Post-op diet with real food?
suzzzzz replied to anonmom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Eating whole foods too soon after surgery can be dangerous and life threatening. I had 2 weeks of liquids, week of piree, then soft foods and regular solids at 5 weeks. Liquids aren't forever but meeting Protein and Water goals are. Vitamin supplements are necessary until you can eat enough to get them naturally which could take a long time. Definitely shop around with surgeons but you have to be willing to make some changes to be successful and healthy. -
Did you cheat on Pre Op?
suzzzzz replied to mrstkgreene's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Has your surgeon provided a post op diet for all stages? They are lots of recipes on the net and this site, but too early to worry about that yet. Being sleeved is a huge commitment to yourself. You really have to be ready to follow your surgeons advice and eating plan. It can be downright dangerous and even life threatening during the healing phase to make up your own rules. The sleeve will do its part but you have to do yours. -
Mine look similar at 3 mths. They will continue to heal. Takes more time for some of us.

What? That is interesting. I will try it soon and see how it works.

Is it true what I hear ?
suzzzzz replied to bellabeans's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That is what "they" say but wasn't my experience. I got a full feeling on liquids and still do at 3 mths. However it isn't the after thanksgiving dinner full feeling. The goal is to stop eating when satisfied and not get when you are full. I have taken one too many bites twice and felt full and miserable. Measuring your portions is good, but it doesn't always mean you should finish what you measure out. This is a learning experience of listening to our bodies, seeing signs to stop or slow down, and just being aware. -
After surgery allergy meds
suzzzzz replied to jolomom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I swallowed all pills whole starting the day after surgery with no problems. One is fairly large. You shouldn't have a problem with Claritin but ask your surgeon. -
Late June Sleeve Buddies?
suzzzzz replied to Maggie143's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Finally! Down 50 lbs! This 3rd month has been a lot slower but I made my goal before my 3 mth surgiversary coming this Friday. Yippee. On to the next 50..... Going to have some mental challenges coming up soon. Will be headed to see family for a week and attend some parties and the whole environment is so conducive to eating and drinking. I plan on taking shakes and I will be able to prepare some of my own food though. Thanks for your support! -
Did you get a chocolate chip cookie dough one? It is the only one I have tried and I liked it. Good and chewy. Not like eating real cookie dough but a good healthy version. I also like atkins brand. Chocolate peanut butter and pretzel peanut butter.

Ricotta bake is considered ok for the puree stage.

How do you know what weight you should be?
suzzzzz replied to alwtg's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
You and I have the same doctor! I had a good discussion with him prior to surgery and I told him I remember being comfortable at 180 and then he said he thought I could get to 160. Really? That is beyond my imagination, but now I see you in that area so it is inspiring. Overall though, my friend who is 3 yrs out says your body will ultimately decide. -
3 months post-op and having trouble with meat :(
suzzzzz replied to ShelterDog64's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So sorry to hear this. I haven't had problems with meat so far. As for beef, I've only had ground beef but can advance to others kinds soon. Same with pork. Not on plan until month 4. My doc said beef and pork are hard to digest, especially the stringy kinds so to stick with beef and pork tenderloin. Do you think it may be triggered by your shoulder surgery? Since you are also having trouble with chicken, I would definitely lay off meat for a few days and give your stomach a rest. Hope you are better soon. -
I love the Luna bars but they are only 9g of protein and I can only eat half. Do you have any you recommend Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App I like the atkins brand and I just tried Quest cookie dough and it was pretty good. Bed bath and beyond has a huge selection of single bars so you can try without buying a whole box. There is a recent thread on protein bars you can search for that has a lot of feedback.

Mexican tortilla soup?
suzzzzz replied to leliwhoaoh's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had a spicy Mexican tortilla soup at 2 weeks. No issues. All you can really do is try. Just go slow. -
Protein is essential for healing and for retaining muscle mass so the body loses fat. I am 3 mths out and still supplement with protein shakes because it is impossible for me to eat enough solid protein. You will have a long road ahead of you if you don't find some form of protein supplement. There are some really good high protein bars if you haven't shopped for those.

Sounds like you need to get blood flowing. Walk more and move around.

Congrats! It is normal to feel good. Let the healing begin! -
Ugh. Just got them. I was enjoying my tuna salad and didn't pay attention to how full or satisfied I felt. Sometimes I can't finish what I measure out.
-
Yes. When I get them I know I ate too much.
