Can I have some yogurt now ?!
suzzzzz replied to natarshassleeve's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This is a great time to learn to be able to do things that we think we can't take. You have made a huge decision to change your lifestyle and your postop diet is part of it. At least call your surgeons office and ask if you can add yogurt. You really don't need strangers approval to do what you want to do. I know for me, it was important to be able to meet my Protein and liquid goals and follow my plan. I found each stage to get tiresome because I wanted what was coming next. It is a very small sacrifice in the big scheme. And that first scrambled egg was the best ever! You will get there. -
Disappointed with weight loss
suzzzzz replied to cbonet's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Your body is going to do what it needs to do for healing and weightloss. Setting expectations that you will lose fast is setting yourself up for a lot of disappointment. Some will lose faster than others. You have probably lost more than someone else. You are on a new journey that will be filled with ups and downs and stalls. Focus on your overall goal to alleviate frustration. -
09/29 Surgery at Dallas Medical Center with Dr Fox
suzzzzz replied to ellie123's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My recovery was great. No nausea, no gas pain (walked a lot in hospital overnight), off pain meds on day 2. Had abdominal swelling and very sore muscle near largest incision for maybe 8 days. Very livable. Have not any issues with eating. -

I had a hiatal hernia repair at the same time. Don't know if that mattered. Also began taking whole pills day after surgery with no issues. -

Dr. Fox is my surgeon also. I think he and his staff are very caring, knowledgeable and personable. Everything has gone well. And, I got ice chips between surgery and xray the next day. His followup includes lots of questions and advice. -
Perhaps your bites are too big or you are eating too fast.

Did I eat too much?
suzzzzz replied to francesalisha79's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can more tuna then chicken or beef. You are doing fine. Freaking out won't help you on one bit. Just keep following your plan and focus on the journey. -
There is a recipe section on this site and has some puree suggestions. I didn't puree anything and stayed on full liquids that phase. Continue to supplementwith protein shakes and it will help with hunger.

I am 3 mths out and get hiccups when I eat or drink too fast, and sometimes when I am full. They are always hard to get rid of.

I am just over 3 mths out and feel like I have had more weeks of stalls than not. However, I have lost 52 lbs. It can be frustrating but when the scale moves down again it is so exciting. Haha. A couple of things - your body doesn't know the difference from pre surgery or post surgery weightloss, your body has to heal and adjust to these drastic changes, and your body is going to take care of itself. You just need to do your part with meeting Protein and liquid goals. No longer are we dieting. We have a new lifestyle. Changing our mindsets helps. Taking it day by day helps. Focusing on the long term goal helps.

Look up the international plans on your carrier's website. You can probably sign up for temporary service without the roaming charges.

My most dreaded sentence...
suzzzzz replied to leese1978's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you are on solid foods, sounds like a great opportunity to find ways to make do with what is provided. Eat the inside of sandwiches, topping off pizza, etc. I eat out a lot including having meals at friends homes and so far all has worked out -
It is not the same. Call your nutritionist and ask. Puree is more of a liquid and no texture. Turkey was on my soft food stage that came after purees.

Mexico Vacation - What to expect 3 months out
suzzzzz replied to kimini's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes you can fly with protein powder and an empty shaker. You can also take sone protein bars for when a shake isn't convenient. Go and have fun! -
I am over 3 mths out and mine still gurgles.
-
Try to think of it as the beginning of a wonderful new life! A fast sounds like such a dreadful thing.

Possibly water retention. Increase your water intake to 80 to 100 ozs. Put your feet up and hopefully the a welling will go down in a couple of days. If not, call your doctor.

When does the surgery belly go down?
suzzzzz replied to gemigirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had a lot of belly swelling after surgery. I put ice packs on it and it was about 10 days before it was gone. It was like I just woke up and and it was gone. -
Surgery was 3 mths ago today and I am down 52 lbs! Feeling great!

Thanks ladies. Had a 5 hr drive out of state today and stopped at McDonald's to use the restroom. The greasy smell was so overpowering when I opened the door that I almost went somewhere else but I really needed to go. :-) And to think I used to love their double cheeseburgers and french fries. Ick

@ShelterDog64 it is nice to have you on this journey. Funny we lost the same amount with our stall struggles. We have a lot in common.
-
@suzzzzz, I feel the same...it's great having someone like you along on this trip! Can't wait to see where we both end up :-)

What does your family normally have? If not too tempting for you, don't drastically change what they like and incorporate sleeve friendly foods for all. You wouldnt be able to eat much anyway. Cheeses, deviled eggs, sugar free popsicles, protein bars (another thread on here mentions cutting them up and baking them like cookies), turkey rollups, guacomole, nachos (you only eat topping), etc. I am not a snacker but hope that gives you some ideas.

Too soon. Your stomach is healing and there is no need to interrupt that just because you are going to a social function. Great you are taking a protein shake!

Eating at 5 weeks post op
suzzzzz replied to Anabean's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 3 mths out and can only eat 1/4 to a 1/3 cup of food. I hear my surgeons voice at times saying "do not clean your plate." :-) Still having a Protein shake every morning and sometimes in the afternoon depending on my day. You are doing great! -
Head hunger alert! All I want to do now is find and eat quest chips, goldfish, pasta, and bars! My imagination is running wild.
