Got my sleeve 3.5 mths ago just before turning 59. I had a great recovery with minimal pain and no nausea. I was a stickler for following doctors plan so as to not risk any complications. I have lost 53 lbs, feel great and focusing on goals. We can be successful at any age!

When do you feel no pain
suzzzzz replied to blackbenzjeep@yahoo.com's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
What kind of pain? I am 3.5 mths out and didn't have pain other than muscle near biggest incision and that wasn't more than 6 days or so. You should not be having pain when eating or drinking. -
My first scrambled egg with a little cheese was like heaven. You all will get there. Don't jump the gun.
-
The most important thing to keep in mind is that your stomach is healing on the inside. Chicken causes more churning to digest and you don't want to risk a leak. The first 6 weeks are critical to heal. Doesn't matter if it was easy.

Anyone that has stopped taking medication
suzzzzz replied to mstrice's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It is an individual thing. At 2.5 months out, I was able to cut my BP med in half. Hope to be off it permanently at some point. -
Am I able to eat to much?
suzzzzz replied to bigjim1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Your swelling is probably going down sooner. Overall the idea is to stop eating before we are full. That may be why your nut changed things up for you. Just guessing. -
When can i start soft food
suzzzzz replied to gombo22's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
As we see on here, all doctors plans differ. I really don't understand wanting to not take my doctors advice since I trusted him to perform major surgery on me. I waited 4 weeks for soft foods and survived and am doing well. At least call your doctor's office to ask if you can move ahead. Popsicles help with the need to bite and chew. -
They are not on my plan either. Doc says they are about an unhealthy meat.

Hungry...or gas pain?
suzzzzz replied to mari12282's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@KristenLe I was given my post scripts for pain and nausea when discharged from the hospital. Got them filled at hospital pharmacy so it was easy. Wasn't given a ppi and didn't have any issues without it. -
bariatriceating.com has lots of recipes also.

Not meeting my calorie goals
suzzzzz replied to liljilo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was only given protein and liquid goals and concerns trade on them. The calories will follow. Stalls happen for a variety of reasons but since you are still healing, it is likely that. At 3.5 mths out, I get on average 800 calories. It takes time to increase your intake. -
I was told priority was water first to prevent. It takes a few days to increase the volume. Just keep working towards it by sipping all day long. As for protein, liquid protein is what you want. I was able to begin them on day 3 but took a few days to work up to goals. Put forth a good effort and do what you can. It does get easier as the swelling goes down.

Help! I'm so scared I've spent all this money for nothing
suzzzzz replied to gustavio's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@gustavio I have read all of the posts you have made and it seems you have been very anxious after surgery. Losing 30 lbs a month is no realistic and it is time to get rid of expectations. We are all on a new life journey, not a diet that will be over when we lose the weight we want to. You have done well with weightloss so far and it will keep happening if you keep following your plan and living your life. And, if you are like me and many others, the weightloss will happen in waves. Yes, it can get frustrating, but it is much easier to let those frustrations go and continue on. This isn't about the money or a broken sleeve, it is finding your footing and continuing to move forward focusing on the big picture, including nsvs, feeling better, looking better, losing inches, etc and most of all, being healthier. You can do this. -
The thicker the liquid the harder it is to get thru your swollen stomach. As your diet plan progresses, the swelling decreases. You can introduce a new stage slowly while continuing on the previous one.

Wonderful update. Your excitement comes through well! Keep up the good work. -
Have you talked to your surgeon? I am 3.5 mths out and have never experienced any pain while eating or drinking. I can eat about 10 bites at a meal. Pain should not be your norm.

Surgery in Dallas by Dr. Adam smith
suzzzzz replied to Shay Wells's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am in the area. Mine was done by Dr. Fox out of Medical City. Baylor is great hospital and as long as you feel good with your choice of surgeon, that is what counts. I was excited and anxious and all has been great. -
Short hair or Long Hair?
suzzzzz replied to finding_onederland's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 3.5 mths out with baby fine thin hair and haven't experienced any loss. Wear your hair the way you like it and deal with hair loss if and/or when it happens. -
To tell or not to tell
suzzzzz replied to karine76's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
They should be asking you about your health history, including surgeries and chronic conditions. Be honest so they can tailor a workout that fits you. -
Congratulations. That is a great result for 5 mths. As you know, everyone is different so others will lose more and some will lose less. I just passed my 3 mth mark and do have days where I want to eat and eat but can't because of restriction. My sleeve is helping me exactly the way I hoped it would. Haven't had days where I can't get full but I have found that some days I can eat more than on others.

You can check out the different companies policies to see what works best for you. I will say that the more work and effort you put in, the better reward. If you want to just send a pile of clothes where someone else has to do the work, you won't get as much. Also, If you donate to a local women's shelter for example, you still need to document the number of items and condition to support a tax writeoff.
