  1. I had a hiatal hernia repair along with the sleeve and haven't had any problems with heartburn or acid. Fixing the hernia should help with that because the stomach is back in the correct position. However, the sleeve can cause acid reflux at first because the stomach still produces the same amount of acid until it adjusts to the much smaller size.
  2. Congratulations. Future stalls won't bother you as much. The journey continues.....

    Pills

You need to ask your surgeon as everyone is different. I took pills the day after surgery with no issues. My BP pill was quite large.
  4. Everyone is different. My pain like that went away in about 10 days, but I also used ice packs on that area the first several days. The nurse in hospital said it helped with swelling and pain. If you don't feel like being able to go back to work, take some more time.

    Protein protein protein!

At 4.5 mths out, I have a Protein shake for Breakfast. It keeps me full for 3 hrs or so along with constantly drinking liquids throughout the day. I eat lunch of mostly protein, may have a protein snack in afternoon and then dinner around 7. I don't eat on an exact schedule and some days I can eat more than on others. I always have liquid to drink except with meals. At 10 days out , I sipped Water and drank protein all day. As you heal and swelling goes down, you will begin to figure what works best for you. And make adjustments as you go.

    Protein protein protein!

I drank 2 premier protein shakes a day for total of 60 grams of protein the first few weeks. Once on solid food at 5 weeks I was able to get protein from fish, turkey, chicken etc but still have one shake to supplement. At 4.5 mths out I can't eat enough protein. Many folks use unflavored protein powder to add to solid foods. My goal for protein is now 70 grams a day and get that most of the time.

    TIRED?

I felt fatigue for the first couple of months. Took naps and rested and energy came back. I feel great at 4.5 mths.
  8. This! When I do order an entree, I always ask for vegetables in lieu of the starch. Or if there's something that looks really good but is clearly too large and won't reheat well, I ask if they can do a smaller portion. I was at a favorite restaurant the other day that does a gorgeous salmon sashimi appetizer, and the server remembered that I've ordered it several times as my meal. When I ordered it this time, she asked if I wanted it made as an entree with vegetables and rice...I said yes to the veg and no to the rice, and the restaurant didn't immediately go out of business "I'll have what she's having!" Love that movie - When Harry Met Sally (in case someone doesn't know what I am referring to.)

I don't want to embrace this stall!

I am just over 4 mths out and my first stall happened between week 2 and 3 and lasted 2 weeks. I have had several since. I have let my frustration go for the most part because i have lost weight, lost inches, and feel good! I don't know anything about the book you mentioned, but I know about my experience. Our bodies are healing and adjusting to a new life we chose, not our stomachs. This isn't a race to the end. It is a journey of learning and implementing new ways to think and do. There really is no need to overthink and frustrate yourself. If you follow your plan, the weight will eventually come off.
  10. Pain is not normal. Call your doctor. It could be eating too fast, eating too much, eating foods that don't agree with you or something else entirely.

    So um...

If / when he actually sets something up with a time and place to meet, don't over think it. If you decide to go, then go with the expectation of just getting out and having fun. If he is interested in more and you are not, he will get over it. It is not your job to caretake an adult man's feelings. It is just a beer. That is all.
  12. I eat out a lot and not once have I felt I need to explain my small intake. I have gotten comfortable asking for an aduustment for how something is prepared and/or substituting something. My experiences have been great. Servers want to help you have a good experience. I am glad I like leftovers. If we don't think of ourselves as different, others won't either.

    Alcohol

If you search alcohol, you will find many threads and posts with many varied opinions and experience. For me, my surgeon cleared me for alcohol at six weeks. I have had wine but drink it much slower. Don't notice that it impacts me any differently. Beer is carbonated so your doctor can guide you about that.
  14. Drinking liquids too fast or too big sips can cause nausea. Try some changes there and see if that helps. I have never heard that lack of caloric intake causes nausea. I am 4 mths out and average 700 - 800 calories a day.

    Less and less food

Some days I can eat more than others.
  16. I am just over 4 mths out and have a shake every morning. They fill me up and I am just not able to eat enough to get protein in.

    Quick - Help!

No time like the present to get started on your new way of life. Will be many adjustments along the way. Go and have fun with the team. Eat or don't eat. We can learn to not make it about food.

    Will I be broken forever?

You are not broken, just at the beginning of a huge life change. It does get better everyday, follow your plan, let your body heal. You got this.
  19. I think getting sleeved is like most everything major in our lives. You don't really know until you experience it. Part of journey in life.

    Sleevers

After your protein you won't have room for dressing. Dressing can be an option after you lose what you want to lose.

    VSG Post Op Day 5

Yes I agree. I am supposed to be on clear & full liquids until 11/7... & I was finally feeling good so I decided that I would be brave & kick it up a notch & try the oatmeal. & it def did not agree with me. at. all. I had to hit rewind... & realized I am def going to take it a lot slower than I thought. But I am OK with that lol thanks for the input I am encouraging you to stick to your plan. Being brave after most of your stomach has been removed is not a good thing. Your stomach is healing and the least work it has to do to digest what you feed it is best. You can put yourself in danger for a leak or infection. Go slow and it will all come together eventually.
  22. A leak test for me was the morning after surgery. Had to drink some awful tasting liquid while they take live xrays. It is to make sure the liquid yoh drank passes thru your stomach without any coming into your adominal cavity. Some surgeons do it while you are still on operating table.
  23. I think it is important to celebrate all kinds of things. Life is too short to not enjoy the journey!
  24. I am only 4 mths out and have had multiple stalls. I let my frustration go because why stress myself out over something I cannot control. All I can do is meet the goals my surgeon set for me. My body will do its own thing in its own time. Weightloss is not steady and stalls will happen for most everyone who is sleeved.
