Great Job!!! Keep up the good work
-
I watch Grey's Anatomy on Netflix while I 'm at the gym. I never watched it when it was on TV, so I have 12 season to watch and I am only on Season 2. I usually can watch 2 episodes a day. When that doesn't work for me I listen to Pandora. I stay motivated just seeing the numbers on the scale go down. I'm sore my muscles ache ansomf my joints hurt. To me though it is worth all the pain I just push through. Now, to clarify I don't hurt while I work out it's just normal aches and pains after nothing a hot shower, or soak in epsom bath can't help with. Good Luck

My husband and I attended a couple of local support groups. After hearing so many of the others say how they wished they would have "taking their surgery seriously as a tool" and describe how little weight they lost 20-30 pounds in 1 year and some have even gone on to have a second WLS to try to lose weight and still not losing. I think in the back of my mind it kind of scared me. We talked about the importance of not only following the eating plan, but exercising. Literally, 2 days later I joined a local gym. It has been 2 months. When I first went it was all I could do to do 30 continuous minutes of any type of exercise. I only went 2 or 3 days a week. Now, I go 6 days a week and I work out continuously for 1.5-2 hours each day. I am tracking my food intake via myfitnesspal app on my phone. I have been averaging about 5-7 pounds loss each week. The thing is if I have a "bad day" at the gym I feel bad. Really what constitutes a "bad day" at the gym to me is not reaching the goal I set for myself that day. If I planned to go for an hour on the treadmill and only did 45 minutes or whatever it just puts me in a bad mood and makes me feel like I have let myself down. The more I go the more I push myself, and I am afraid I am going from one bad habit to creating a new one. I was addicted to food. I love the way it smelled, tasted, everything, but now I feel I am becoming addicted to going to the gym and working out. I rearrange everything to make sure I go for usually 2 hours, and lately I have been trying to increase my workout time by justifying it that I am trying to build up endurance. I went from walking on the treadmill 30 minutes each day to 50 minutes a day. I went from going 15 minutes on the bike. or elliptical to going 30 minutes and now wanting to increase that to 45 minutes a day. I recently tried a new machine called Lateral (this one is very difficult for me) I started out at 3 minutes and have worked up to 6 minutes each day I want to work up to 15-20 minutes each day. Then 3 days a week I also strength train focusing on my back, abs, arms and legs. I use to be really thin and active when I was younger. After having my children and losing my Thyroid to Cancer I gained so much weight my highest being 286. I feel great after I leave the gym. I just want to make sure I do all that I can to lose the weight before my 1 year anniversary because I have heard so many people say after the first year it gets harder. I am just scared I am not going to succeed if I don't push myself to do all that I can. I plan out all of our meals for the entire week every weekend, so I know exactly what I am making for dinner every night. My whole family eats High Protein, Low carb. We eat lots of fresh low carb vegetables ( A lot of zucchini, yellow squash, broccoli, cauliflower). We have done major overhaul in our kitchen. We have nothing that can cause temptation. My daughter has lost 30 pounds, My husband has lost 25 pounds. Someday's, I think I am exercising and burning to many calories. Does anyone else ever feel this way? Could I be exercising to much? I think I also enjoy going to the gym because it is my only time away from home and time for me

Could I actually be exercising to much?
menaegle replied to menaegle's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Thanks Ladies. I didn't have this fear of failing until I went to the local support group. I enjoy my time at the gym, but don't want to create a new issue. I think I will call a therapist and see if I can get an appointment to talk to one. I just want to make sure that I do all that I can to reach my goal. -
If your cramping to bad maybe call your Dr. I had to call mine. I was cramping bad and ended up with Diarrhea which in turn resulted in me having to go in for IV fluids because I got dehydrated. Hope you feel better

When I go to the gym. I see women like what you described, but I also see women who are the same size as me and some who are bigger than me. The 1st week I went to the gym I kid you not a skinny cute blonde lady stared at me every day for 3 days in a row. It bothered me a little. Then I decided you know what I am not here for anyone but myself. I feel everyone is in the gym for the same reason regardless of their size. We are all there to workout. I have been going 6 days a week for over a month now, and I will continue to go for myself and my health. I think if you look at it from this point of view it a little easier. Good Luck in your journey

Still stalled - and hungry. Where's the magic weight loss i was promised?
menaegle replied to Seastars's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Are you truly hungry? Or are you experiencing "Head Hunger"? I experienced "Head Hunger" at about 3-4 weeks out. I wasn't really hungry, but I saw everyone around me eating and thought I should be eating as well. I have read a lot about WLS and try to prepare myself for every possible obstacle. I have read lots of books and watch video's on YouTube etc. I have learned to Plan because when you plan ahead you are more prepared and less likely to stray. I use an app on my I-phone called my fitness pal. It tracks my food, exercise, Water and I can see how much Protein I have eaten etc. You can customize it. I have mine set to 1000 calories a day. You can set how much protein , carbs, fat etc. I think I need to increase my calories be I am burning 500+ calories a day at the gym 6 days a week. I follow an extremely low carb diet. I push myself everyday at the gym. Maybe try keeping a journal and a food journal and see if that helps. You may be taking in more than you think if you aren't currently keeping a food journal. Wishing you the best. -
What can happen if I cheated on post op diet?
menaegle replied to Little Bee's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I just want to say I don't understand why you would "cheat" only 6 days out. If you are cheating that soon out were you truly prepared for the changes you need to make in order to be successful. I say this not to be mean, but the sleeve is merely a tool to help you with your weight loss goals. It is not you have the surgery and you will lose weight. I had my surgery 4/13/16 I have lost 53 pounds to date. I have attended several local support groups and there are several people who have said they wish they had taken it more seriously that having the sleeve surgery was a tool. They did not lose as much weight as they wanted, they admitted that they didn't eat like they should have they did not follow the advice of their surgeon. I try to learn from others mistakes. I follow my diet/ surgeons advice exactly. I work out everyday for an hour and a half. I went into this with a goal in mind. I have heard many say it is harder to lose the weight after 1 year out so my goal is to reach my goal and do all I can to reach that goal before my 1 year anniversary. I think you need to look carefully what your goals are and find a way to accept the changes you need to make to reach your weight loss goals. Good Luck -
9 weeks Post sleeve feeling frustrated
menaegle posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I had my surgery on April 13, 2016. My starting weight was 283 pounds. I do not know what I weighed before going into surgery. Today, I weigh 245 pounds. I was losing weight pretty steadily until about 2.5 weeks ago. I have not lost any weight in the past 2.5 weeks. I don't know if I am doing something wrong. I am exercising (not every day but every other for 30 minutes) My Dr told me once before that he felt I was not getting in enough calories. I am wondering if that could still be the problem. I downloaded my fitness pal app today on my phone to keep track of my caloric intake. Today, I have only taken in about 200 calories and it is 3pm here. Can anyone give me any tips, tricks or advice that might help get the scale moving again? Thanks in advance. Mary -

How much loss during your first month?
menaegle replied to Wendydarling19's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I lost 38 pounds my first month. Everyone is different so you could lose more or less. Good luck on your journey. -
I generally mix mine with skim milk or light vanilla soy milk. I use vanilla flavored and then add different flavors. (a friend who had the sleeve 2 years go told me about doing this) I have made root beer flavored and cherry. I also add a little ice to make it a little thicker. I wanted to try some other flavors but I am trying to not have shakes anymore.

9 weeks Post sleeve feeling frustrated

I always eat my Protein first and foremost and I rarely finish my whole meal. Although my food guideline given to me says for Lunch/ dinner 2-3 oz protein, 1/4 cup vegetables nd 1/4 cup Pasta or brown rice. I rarely eat all of that I don't think I ever have. I always eat all the protein first, then the vegetables, and then go for the grains if I still feel I can eat without being over full. But, I rarely finish my vegetable and make it to the grain,so although I put it on my plate I rarely if ever get that far. I am making sure to get my protein in which my surgeon told me to aim for 60 grams daily. Thank you all for your responses. I have been "playing wii fit" for exercise because it is fun and I enjoy it. I show I am now down to 243, so I must have just stalled. I enjoy the wii fit and I aim for more time each day. If I am not playing that I use the app C25K on my treadmill. Only I don't jog/run I just increase my speed by about .5 mph for that time. I enjoy that app as well. I usually will watch a television program while doing that and it seems to make that 30 minutes go by pretty quickly I am hoping to get a gym membership somewhere to work on strength training to hopefully tone -
9 weeks Post sleeve feeling frustrated

KristenLe, I downloaded my fitness pal yesterday and started keeping track of my intake yesterday. (yesterday what I had eaten up to the point of my post was 200 calories) Today, just my oatmeal is 230 calories. I think this new app is going to help me a lot to make sure I get in enough. Yesterday I took in 557 calories. Yesterday was not a typical day for me though. So, I am waiting to see what the next couple of days look like. Thanks for your responses. I sometimes feel so alone on this journey -
My surgeon told me that I can't chew gum after WLS. He said if you accidentally swallow it, it can get stuck and become a surgical emergency

Does everyone but me have a nutritionist?
menaegle replied to cseidman's topic in Food and Nutrition
I do not have a NUT I'm 9 weeks out. My Surgeon tells me if I have any questions, concerns or notice that my weight loss has plateaued to call him and he will guide me. I think the last 2 weeks I have struggled to get in enough calories and that has caused me to stop losing. I love to use the wii fit as a change of pace for exercise. I noticed today that I lost 1.5 pound since Monday so, I guess the changes I am making are helpful. I often find I have questions. I try to read through past post to see if I can find where maybe someone else may have asked the same thing and get my answer that way. Good Luck on your journey -
I am in Houston. Still fairly new to this HUGE city. Been here just over 1 year. I still need to get use to the heat.

9 weeks Post sleeve feeling frustrated
menaegle replied to menaegle's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I have alarms set on my phone to eat. For example my alarms are set for 9,12, 3, 6 & 8:30 I eat Breakfast at 9 then at 12 I eat a snack (usually a cheese stick) then at 3 I eat lunch. then at 6 I eat dinner and at 8:30 I eat a snack. Maybe I need to pick different foods. I am so use to trying to watch what I eat maybe I need to eat different foods to get in the needed calories. My usual breakfast is a half a serving of oatmeal with 1 scoop of unflavored unjury Protein powder added. Then snack is usually a 100 calorie greek yogurt or RF cheese stick. Lunch I usually eat cottage cheese about 1/2 cup (either low-fat or fat-free) then dinner is usually 1-2 oz of protein and 1/4 cup of vegetable and 1/4 cup of brown rice or protein plus Pasta. (Sometimes I can't eat all of my dinner but make sure to eat all the protein) Then my snack before bed is usually a cheese stick or 100 calorie greek yogurt. So maybe I need to change my lunch meal to contain more food? Thanks for responding Mary
