Do Protein Bars Trigger Your Sweet Tooth?

Thanks so much to both of you for your responses! Yes, I think they will be very convenient. I'll just tread cautiously and mindfully, and I'll see how it goes! Congrats to all of you on your amazing accomplishments! You are all inspirations to me!

    2nd day out question

Blu2020, I am three weeks post-op and I had exactly the same concerns the first few days after surgery! But it definitely gets easier. Just keep sipping. I think I was anxious because I could not drink as quickly as I used to, and I felt like I wasn't getting anywhere. So, I started pouring my fluids from my big cup into a 2 oz. shot glass, and then I started feeling more relaxed about it because I could see progress every time I would finish sipping a shot. I also found that if I took a nice deep breath in between every few sips (especially when drinking shakes), that really helped. You will see: it will get much easier to drink in the coming days and weeks. Good luck! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  4. Absolutely! I am 41 and have two young sons, ages 8 and 5. My realization that I might not be around to see them grow up because of weight-related health risks was a primary catalyst in making the decision to have WLS. I also want to be able to actively play with them--and I want them to see me take on something that has challenged me my whole life and be successful. I am only 3 weeks post-op, but I already know how life-changing this will be for all of us. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  5. Hi, everyone! I am a little over two weeks post-op and am very lucky to be feeling really good! I will be taking a four-day trip for work next week and will have to bring supplements and some Protein powders with me. I would like to pack everything in a carry-on, but am not sure if I will have problems going through security. Ideally, I'd like to bring my pill case, which has all my Vitamins and supplements in it, and individual sealed protein packets. Has anyone flown with all of this stuff? Any advice or "best practices"? Thanks, in advance, for your feedback!
  6. Thank you so much, ladies! It is good to know you have not run into an issue before. It's a good idea to print out a list of supplements. Thanks again!
  7. I had surgery on a Friday, took off the next week, and went back to work the Monday after. So, nine days (counting weekends). I was very lucky to have a smooth recovery, and I've been glad to be back at work (office job, so no heavy lifting). It's helping me to get into a regular routine. My best to you!

How often do you weigh yourself?

I am glad you asked this! I have been thinking about this issue lately. I am only two weeks post-op, but I have been weighing myself daily--a habit that I got into from many years (a lifetime, really) of dieting and judging how well I was doing based on the number on the scale each morning. While it's been exciting to see numbers coming down, I know that it will discourage me if I keep up this daily weighing as fluctuations and stalls are inevitable. So, I am physically putting the scale away for a week and decided that I will weigh myself each Friday. This journey is so much more than what I'm seeing on the scale. That is only one measure. For me, I think this is the best way to proceed right now. Curious to see what others report! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  9. Hi! I am two weeks post-op and have been very lucky to have a smooth post-op experience so far. My program guidelines allowed soft foods starting my second week, and I've been faithfully following the plan, as well as hitting Protein and Fluid goals. For the past day or so, I've been experiencing a sensation that feels like something is stuck in my esophagus. It doesn't hurt; it's just annoying. I have felt this way when my sleeve has been full, but this persists for hours after I've eaten. From what I've read, this isn't uncommon, but can I do anything to resolve it? Thanks for any feedback! -K Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  10. Thanks so much for your responses! I will talk to my doc and be careful to not actually get to the full point. Still trying to understand my new stomach, I guess. Thanks! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Plant Based Diet After Bariatric Surgery

Hi! I am a lacto-ovo vegetarian, and I was sleeved four days ago. My nutritionist had no concerns for me, so that was reassuring (although I've been veg for almost 20 years, so I knew there would be a lot of options). I am planning on Beans, lentils, tofu, tempeh, and veggie "meat" products, like veggie burgers. My nutritionist said I can start to try those things when I hit the soft-foods phase (when others can start soft meats, for instance). She did recommend using up to 2 Protein shakes from that stage forward, if I need them. There are a couple vegan Protein Shakes that my nutritionist has on our approved list. I'll track down the name for you. Good luck to you! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  14. Hi there! I was sleeved yesterday. Doing well, I think. Uncomfortable, but I think it's mostly gas. I am having trouble differentiating between the gas and the full sensations I am getting from my newly sleeved tummy. Anyway, so far this morning, I have been able to slowly sip down about 8-10 oz. Bariatric Advantage shake over about three hours, and I have also sipped about 8 oz. of Water so far throughout the course of the morning. Does this sound about normal for just starting out? I am assuming I will need to work up to the full daily Fluid and Protein intake, but I just want to make sure I'm not going too slowly. Thanks for any feedback! 15. Thanks to you both! Yeah, the practice I went through allows the Protein shakes right away. Definitely thicker and a bit more challenging. Sipping, sipping away! Thanks again! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Singing after gastric sleeve?

  17. Hi there! I am new to this forum, so I hope I am posting this in the right place. I am hoping to have my surgery sometime this summer. I am also a professional singer, and I am wondering how the surgery might affect my ability to perform. I know that I will have to take it easy for a few weeks, but does anyone have experience with this? Is there any reason to think that I physically would not able to sing after about two weeks? I perform with an acoustic band, so I wouldn't be jumping around on stage. LOL. Thank you for any help you can offer! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
