Had first PB this weekend...in public too!
amamastime replied to MistyDTX's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Oh Marie... I feel for you on that one. Egg is awful for me. Most people close to me now that I and my husband are banded. I don't want them to panic with a Yaak attack. I have found it has helped out at our friends get togethers- they don't get their feelings hurt when we don't eat specific foods. I can share my hubby's worst pbing experience. His family doesn't know about our bands. He had to go out to dinner at a steakhouse w/family visitors. He has a hard time with meat (all meats) and has to be very very careful. So he was eating, talking, and laughing. Long story short- I saw that look in his eyes. He sat for a long time... and then quickly got up and went right to the restroom. 15 mins later he is back... as I calmly and quietly explain he has had the flu and didn't want to upset anyone by not attending the dinner. (boy do you become a good story teller in the bandster lifestyle). He was so exhausted and embarrassed. No more steakhouse dinners with family was the outcome. -
Buying clothes throughout weightloss?
amamastime replied to katie78's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I accidently ran my jeans through the washer with hot water... Well needless to say, they shrunk and are not baggie anymore. You could try it too to help prolong your clothing. :mad2: -
Can't give up COFFEE!
amamastime replied to abeaher's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey this is a good point. When I hear/read the word coffee I think of the old black brewed coffee. If it is a designer coffee... then yeah you can get yourself into trouble with calories, fat and so on. I do know that starbucks offers a skinny latte (90 cal for a tall) and it contains a little bit of protein. Okay so now you all know one of my entertainment foods on a bad emotional day. I must admit it is better then a box of chocolates. -
Had first PB this weekend...in public too!
amamastime replied to MistyDTX's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I can so relate to the horrible public PBing. Oh my goodness, my worst ones have been in public. I would say the worst one of all time, happened at my daughters dance studio. i small bit of my daughters hamburger (just meat), chewed carefully, and swallowed. She was eating her hamburger in the car prior to her dance class. Well, I can assure you I never want to smell hamburger again, nor can I bring myself to eat it. It was a 45 mins ordeal for me. She went to dance class while I sat very close to the bathroom and PBed twice in the toliet... and slimed for the longest time. I was so embarrassed and exhausted from the whole thing. I had to tell the moms there that I had a touch of food poising... Public episodes are the worst! I now either drink my shakes in the public or eat prior/after any public event. -
Buying clothes throughout weightloss?
amamastime replied to katie78's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I go to beall's outlet and target for my jeans. Now that summer is around the corner- I had to break down and go to kohls. I bought summer dresses that will i can continue to wear with more weight loss. It is a bit harder for me durning the summer time becuase AZ is so warm. Summer is the point when I have to break down and pay a bit more for the proper clothing. The rest of the year is jeans and t-shirt. Now that I am smaller, I even get to exchange some articles of clothing with my friends. -
Please make sure that you are going to the doctor appointments with your wife. Sometime us women don't want to or forget to give the whole story to the doctors. Also, you may be connecting more the dots then she is at the moment. Best wishes!

What is your current fill in your 4cc band?
amamastime replied to Paulax's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
To me, restriction means a tighting filling after eating (a type of pushed on pressure in the chest area). I try to be very careful with food getting stuck. I simply don't like the feeling. It is difficult to explain without using the terms Pb'ing, sliming, and intense "golf ball" (some other posters term) pain. In my case it is the worst experience and once it has happened to you- then you know. I hope that helps you to understand it.... -
Amanda, I am glad to hear your spirits are picking up. For us women, it is also a battle of our hormones and emotions. Wishing you all the best!

Non food substitutes when the munchies hit
amamastime replied to tapshoes's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
i chew ice, gum, and drink water. i also address why the craving hits. -
I have had 2 c-sections, 1 gallbladder removal, and the band. The scars will fade... as your body shrinks so will the scars. The reality shock does hit some harder then others- the fact is you are changing your life style. Give it time.... this is what the support system is for. Within a few more months, you will have another reality check. You will notice that the new life style seems to feel like you know nothing else, you never ate any different, and you will be healthier. Wishing you the best!

aren't people being told they are to not drink bubbly drinks with their bands? I remember I ordered a fruit punch drink once and it came with bubbles. I took a drink without looking... oh my goodness... it created so much discomfort for me. beside the sweet sryup taste. I was told that banded people are not to drink bubbly drinks or alchol. So I haven't not had them.... I know abit of my weight came from soda.

Gall Bladder Removal after significant weight loss
amamastime replied to Sue Magoo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I personally don't have any complications with bowels, diet, and so on from a gallbladder diet. carbs and sat fat requirement were just the same as the bandster diet. My experiences were postive and painless to date. The important part is to get up and walk - just like when you got your band. In fact to think back... I walked and had a bruise from the instruments. -
Gall Bladder Removal after significant weight loss
amamastime replied to Sue Magoo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my removed 6 month prior to the band. It was a complication after pregnancy. Mine was removed laprioscopic (similar procedure as the band). No pain, no lifting anything over 5 pound for awhile. Felt much better with it out. -
I was a die hard DIET COKE addict. From time to time... usually under lots of stress - I will miss it. Now I drink coffee and water

i did try it... i gagged on the flavor... wasn't for me. hubby tried it too and didn't like it. Personally, I like the low carb slim fast protein shakes and the whey protein powder. I am not a fan of unjury either. I hope it works better for you.

tenacious tens-what are your intolerable foods so far
amamastime replied to bandster_1007's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
yes I only get the low carb slim fast. It contains the Iron that my body needs. the chocolate one is my favorite flavor. you are so right about beef jerky. I can't get enough of the beef or turkey jerkey. I know buy the individual packet from costco and carry a pack with me. -
use some KY or other personal lub on the end just above the ball to work it out. If not, you will have to cut it. I am sure any of the peircing places could assist you if needed. It is at the doctors descrestion to allow the plastic retainers. Most do...

Is it only me? Help!
amamastime replied to Bandana's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was told by my doctor that the stomach noise is not in fact that your stomach is hungry, it is just empty. It took a good two months for my stomach to not make so much noise. When in a business meeting, yeah it is embarassing. However, I handled it one of two ways; either explain that breakfast/lunch/dinner didn't agree with you or drink some water and comment how stipping a (meal name here) isn't good for the body. -
I have a nose stud but for surgery I put in a plastic retainer. They allow those... and they make them for all the different pierced areas.

Could it be a food allergy/tolerance issue?

It is equal important to have your doctor check into the hair loss. Hair loss is an indicator for thryoid issues, poor diet, and so on. For myself, it was a medical issue.
-
I had long wavy hair.. I end up with a double whammy... The weight loss made may hair brittle, but then my thryoid medicine made it fall out some... so I wacked it off. Now after about 6 months I am getting that healthy look back too it. I have to keep chopping it off about every 3-4 months- to save myself the heart ache of how awful it looked prior. I wish you the best. It was one of the hardest things to let go of.
