I like LoseIt, but pretty much just because of the pictures. -
Gastric bypass or sleeve? How did you choose? Anyone 5 years out of surgery?
hopefulvspgirl replied to LoveLife4U's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Some doctors prefer the bypass if your starting weight is higher, because you are going to lose a little bit more. I chose the sleeve because I wasn't interested in rerouting my pipes. To me it seems less invasive, has less risk of things like food intolerances (good or bad depending on your view!), and the idea of malnutrition to that extent freaks me out. Keep in mind I am only 10 months out. Purely anecdotally, I have found it interesting that the people I know with the most regain had the bypass. Regardless, don't let them pressure you into something you don't want. If you want the sleeve, do that! It's also possible to go from sleeve to bypass down the road if needed. -
How long did it take for your insurance to approve you?
hopefulvspgirl replied to ElleBJ's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mine took 5 days, and I was asking them everyday for an update. I think they may have approved just to get rid of me. Once I got the approval I had them email me the letter so I could it on to my surgeon just to speed up the process a little bit. I'm too impatient to wait for the mail. -
What do we need!?
hopefulvspgirl replied to Becoming_Me's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I purchased all of the stuff and used like nothing. I never even opened my baby plates, but for some people I could see it being helpful. I also loaded up on protein shakes pre surgery and then post op decided I didn't like half of them anymore, so don't get too many because tastes can change. I recommend the following: - Abdominal Binder. My tummy started deflating as I was healing still and the binder helped a lot with keeping things taut so the hanging skin didn't hurt my incisions. - Chapstick - Food scale. Everyone who recommends it is spot on! - Miralax. You are somewhat limited on what you can take post surgery, but Miralax is a safe bet to get things ~moving~ - Sugarfree Popsicles. When you go from normal person to being on a very restricted diet, these feel like a nice treat and give you a little something to crunch - Fill your prescriptions ahead of time. You don't want to be in line at CVS while feeling like crap and you absolutely want to stay ahead of the pain -
Did you tell people?
hopefulvspgirl replied to Bishbosh's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I told everyone because it was just easier. I didn't want to track who knew and who didn't or worry about people guessing behind my back. No one has been negative about it to my face, and I don't really care anyways. I did what was right for me and it has WORKED. -
Outpatient surgery?
hopefulvspgirl replied to RHmama's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was outpatient in August 2016. It was awesome, highly recommend. I was free to be in my own living room with my own DVR, walk around my own neighborhood, and boss my husband around. -
What were you doing post-op?
hopefulvspgirl replied to queenj23's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I wasn't allowed to walk more than a mile at a time for the first four weeks. Wasn't allowed to really workout or touch weights until eight weeks. -
a little help & advice :/

Walk, drink, and keep up on that Miralax! My surgery was on a Monday and I didn't "go" until Saturday. -
If any of you could have had the sleeve done in your 20's would you?
hopefulvspgirl replied to rachel_babe's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
OMG yes! I was 25 when I had my sleeve surgery and I only wish I had thought to do it sooner! I'm so happy with how everything has turned out. Are you able to go out and do a bunch of shots? Eh, I can't (I know a couple who can) but you can still drink a little. Are you able to go out an gorge on wings? No, but you can have some wings. It didn't impact my social life much at all as far as what I've been limited to. -
I fainted at a concert last night
hopefulvspgirl replied to sarajeano's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had pretty much an identical experience at the Britney show in Vegas. For me, I think it was a combination of alcohol (it's Vegas!), dehydration, and heat. The only other time I had this happen was at my rehearsal dinner where it was super hot and I hadn't been taking care of myself (oh haaiiii pre wedding stress). I haven't had this issue since, so I wouldn't worry too much. -

Hair loss prevention
hopefulvspgirl replied to cklasun's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've taken my Vitamins perfectly and been good on Protein since week one, and I'm losing hair now three months out. Trying to remember that it comes back, but it's a bit startling how much comes out. I think surgeons seem to tell patients it won't be a problem if they do everything "right", and I don't think that's fair. Better to prepare you for the possibility since it seems to happen to the majority. -

Alcohol Post Op
hopefulvspgirl replied to melindakreeger's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Omg don't do it. God willing he will have lots more birthdays for you to drink at. Odds are that alcohol will impact you differently and you will still be in major healing mode. Sent from my SM-G900V using the BariatricPal App -
Dr said after 4 days or so would be fine. I was ready at 2 weeks. Literally cringing hearing of people going sooner. I would have died trying it in the first week. We ACTUALLY got to it after 3 weeks because my husband had a vasectomy during my second week postop and had his own recovering to do. Sent from my SM-G900V using the BariatricPal App

Swallow/leak test: I didn't have obe
hopefulvspgirl replied to SandyinFL's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved on 08/01 and also did not get a swallow test which was surprising since it seems like everyone else has one. I would slow down the gulps and try smaller sips to see if it helps. FWIW, the woman I know who had a leak had really bad acid and it felt like a heart attack. Sent from my SM-G900V using the BariatricPal App -
Any fluid burn
hopefulvspgirl replied to madisunshine1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A

New relationship after sleeve surgery
hopefulvspgirl replied to Nikki Monroe's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I would be really put off if someone I was dating for more than a couple months hadn't told me that they had this huge, life changing surgery. I think it is important to know the history of the person I'm seeing seriously because that's what made them who they are. However, I'm not opposed to keeping it on the DL for other people in your life like coworkers, extended family, and acquaintances. @@OutsideMatchInside I think you mentioned the credit report in jest, but in all seriousness, I think everyone should show their partner their credit reports and financials before making any huge steps together (ie. buying a house, having children, getting engaged). -

Pre surgery
hopefulvspgirl replied to michaela.schmidt's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Unfortunately, it's hard to say regarding the losing weight prior to surgery. It seems most doctors will have you diet for ~2 weeks prior to surgery (ranging from low carb to liquids only), but it doesn't seem as common to need to lose a certain amount. For myself, I've gained 5 lbs since my consult (completely my fault, I went a little crazy with food between the consult and now) and so I need to lose those pounds plus a few more before my surgeon would operate. So I've started my 2 week diet a few days early. When I've seen the term revision, it's generally referring to lapband to sleeve. I haven't heard of a revision of the sleeve itself. -
Tip for people making plans for post op
hopefulvspgirl replied to soccergirl09's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I fear I'll be in the same boat. I'm only out of the office for a week, and stupidly volunteered to work from home starting day 4. I know they will be patient if I take time out to nap, but I shouldn't have and didn't really need to volunteer to work. -
@@melvin5ft2 mine is going to be very similar to yours, but I don't know yet how many carbs I am allowed. I'm thanking my lucky stars I'm not on liquids!

How long do you plan to take off work after surgery?
hopefulvspgirl replied to Amber M.'s topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgery is a Monday and I have the entire week off but have offered to WFM Thursday & Friday. I have a low stress office job so I don't think going back to work will be an issue. I mostly took so little time off for my mental health. I have taken longer time off before and go stir crazy being at home by myself for long periods of time.
