  1. My Dr wants me to have 60-65 grams of protein a day. Sometimes I find not want to eat so plain protein in a drink would be great. Luckily I love fish which has a lot of protein!
  2. Yes my taste changed drastically after surgery. I could not drink coffee for almost 4 months! Dr told me it would come back & it did going into 5th month. But you will always need protein drinks. I am having a hard time finding unflavored protein. I went to 2 GNC stores, where do u buy?
  3. I mixed my protein powder (I bought vanilla & chocolate powder) with different flavorings & vanilla beans. I also used a couple of tablespoons of sugar free instant pudding. Also used low fat milk instead of water to get the extra protein. Experiment, you will find something you like! I also had family members who tried to discourage me, YOU do what's best for you!
  4. You are beautiful!! Congratulations on all your hard work!!

    5 weeks out

Hey Nana! So sorrry you are going through this... I remember in beginning the Dr talking to me about the opening to the stomach opening in beginning is the size of tip of my little finger. He stressed that small bites, chewed to consistency of apple sauce. He said I'd I tried to eat larger bites it would not go down & I would throw up. I felt the same way for almost 3 months nothing tasted good & I never felt like eating. I was told by my surgeon that it was normal for some people. Finally going into my 4 month everything starting working & I finally started feeling normal. Good luck tomorrow I will be thinking of you!

    I'm 5weeks post op

You look fabulous! Keep us posted!!
  7. You are definitely ready! Your approach was the best avenue for you. It's not an easy decision believe me. You will have a few bumps after surgery like all of us BUT you will work through it. I'm really proud of you, your new life began the moment you made the decision. only advise I will give you now is try to replace a meal with a protein shake. 2 weeks before surgery I was instructed to go on Optifast by my Bariactric Dr at Mayo. It was hard because I never drank protein drinks before. I still use protein drinks as a mid-day snack & actually like them. They are very filling. Another bit of advise is read these posts, they are very very helpful & informative! If I can help you in anyway please do not hesitate to email me. congratulations on your new life!!

    Vomiting

I'm six months pot op, gastric by-pass.. e verything going well except something weird the past 5 days... when eating dinner about half way through I am getting what I believe to be indigestion. I take an antacid & then I vomit my dinner! Very strange, I do not feel sick, no new food.. had anyone experienced this??

    Vomiting

I vomit if I eat too fast or little too much. Dr told me it was normal BUT since I know why, he said to correct!! Change your dinner to lunch, it might help.
  11. get multi with iron, I take Caltran chewy which is calcium,D3 together, I a day... much better. I switched from buying @ Bariatric to Walgreens, same ingredients much lower cost, liquid B12... you will be a beautiful bride!!
  12. you must take your vitamins!! U can get gummies, chewable or liquid, just grin & bare it
  13. Your not alone! I had a really hard time eating for about 31/2-4 months. Nothing tasted good, the only thing that was ok was wrapping lean ham (deli) wrapped around cheese stick (low fat). Then it was like a lightbulb went off & everything started falling into place. Everyone is different. But make sure you take ALL your vitamins!! I lost really fast too but it levels off. I just had my Mayo 6 month visit, my labs were great, down 60lbs & my Bariactric Dr. Was thrilled with my results! Only 15 lbs to go. Hang inthere your doing great!😍
  14. My surgeon, and Bariactric Dr required a 2 week liquid Optifast diet prior to surgery. The main reason was to shrink your liver. It was hard but a good jump start. It helped to get you somewhat prepared. Good luck!

    Creepy skin!

Yes I'm 66 but I've always had nice skin.. but I guess dropping 59lbs 6 months has something to do with it... I really think I'm not drinking enough water, I was always a big water drinker.. need to make more of an effort!

    Creepy skin!

I think you are correct, drinking all my fluids has been my biggest problem. Prior to surgery I drank at least 80oz with no problem. Now I'm lucky to get in 36oz. Not using a straw is making it difficult for me.. any suggestions?!?

I agree, I know what dumping is because I experienced this once early on. It was so bad I went to the ER. I think after going over all the details it's a new medication I am taking.
