Hello Everyone! Getting an RNY has been a great journey that I would do again in a heartbeat. Success whether measured in dress sizes or comorbidities has been success all the way around (Haha! English teacher punny). Unfortunately, iron absorption is not keeping up with daily life and the Docs are concerned (BTW - this is the only concern as all of my comorbidities are out of the picture). Currently undergoing testing for poor iron absorption; it is consistently low. My concern at this point is going to a hematologist for iron therapies or blood transfusions and what the therapies will involve. Any experience with this?

I was off for 5 days before going back half days. This is not typical and you should listen to your doctor and your body throughout this process. Your procedures will take a lot out of you and there is no way to know for sure how you will respond... The doc will tell you 6 to 8 weeks, but you have a say in your treatment. I did not take narcotics. Could drive safely and was told so by my doctor. One day at a time. You can do this!

Surgery has left me unable to process cholesterol. As a result, I am eating as my NUT has suggested... the rainbow and happily losing weight as expected. Low iron at this point is my only concern based on blood tests. It is new living on occasional fish and primarily cheese and veggies. Loving the changes though!

How soon did you return to work?
Shrinkinqtpi replied to katlzxdcj's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I went back to work 5 days after surgery working half days. It completely depends on you and your doctor's choice of medicating you. He said I could go back and pre-planned my medications so I could go without being dangerous to myself or others. He let me drive too. -

It has been 5 months since RNY surgery. HW: 381 SW: 330 CW: 254 GW: 150 Seeing differences in sizes is completely different than the side-by-side pictures which were surprising. It is healing to see this and cannot imagine seeing the one year pics! -

First off, congratulations on your new bra! I order them for my sweetie off eBay quite a bit. Always look for new with tags. Second, I used to drive school bus and I see that you are a saint and have more strength than Popeye in a spinach field on amphetamines. I mean a middle school teacher. My hat is off to you.

Congratulations! I remember having that NSV. The fact that i could buy bras in a store designed for everyone but a plus size. Now i love shopping....it doesnt matter if it is bras, panties, clothing, shoes......i could go on and on.....

YOGA-I am a beginner any advice
Shrinkinqtpi replied to pdallariva's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm ready too. I found a beginning class at the YMCA on Saturdays. I will start next week. Surgery was 8/3. I asked my doc when I can strength train or try yoga and his PA said this week as I start eating solid foods. I think my healing rate is faster as I had to... went back to work the week after surgery. I'm sharing because the connection between solid foods and increased exercise may be important. How Long Before You Regained Your Energy?
Shrinkinqtpi replied to LaDivaDev's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Surgery was on 8/3. I was back to work for half days 8/8. The first days were rough. Naps in the afternoons. I lost a lot of weight the first week (10+) but it was tough. Energy really returned the following week. For me, energy returned 2.5 weeks after surgery. Thank God! School started the following week (and my University classes started too). Never Hungry.
Shrinkinqtpi replied to brimm_brittany's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had a hernia repair and RNY 8/3/16 and have not felt hungry at all since. I theorize that I had the benefit of hunger center intervention through the procedure. Instead I will lose focus/energy; dizziness; cloudiness as an indication to eat. There are other signs and symptoms. Listen to your body. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

I had RNY 8/3 and my first cycle snuck up on me with little pain and heavy flow for about 4 days. Everyone is different - keep listening to your body and asking questions. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Non Scale Victories
Shrinkinqtpi replied to angeliquita's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgery was 8/3/16 and my favorite NSVs have been: 1. moving my seat up in the car - yes!!! 2. People noticing the cute dresses I own instead of my lumps and bulges 3. Energy!!! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
It has been a marathon of activity since surgery. The journey started 8/3/16. Home 8/4 - could've stayed another night but couldn't do it. The idea of laying around the hospital when that could be done at home sold me on leaving. Only had anti-inflammatories at home and was back to work on 8/8/16. They were half days and I had some support through Wednesday, 8/10. Since then it has gotten busier & busier. Switched to baby food/purées. Transitioning to fork smashed this week. Today was the first day of school. I still have not vomited but have experienced all steps leading up to dumping last night. Sleepiness. Dizziness. shakes. Chills. Slept 10+ hours and had a tough morning. Trying to get in 40-60 oz H20 and eating baby food since it is convenient and variety is easy to manage. HW: 355 Lost about 30 since surgery (in just under 3 weeks) CW: 301 It is time for advice. I have to go to the university tomorrow night and Thursday for the next 4 months. I leave for my day to start at 6:20 AM and will get home around 9:30 PM. Exhaustion has been setting in around 8:00 PM. I was thinking of packing variety for tomorrow's long day with supplies for shakes as needed... up to 4. I don't want to risk sleepiness driving home but want to continue progress so I'll pack Oikos as well as Water and Vitamin water + all the pills and meds. I need survival ideas. Progress has been good & I want it to continue. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Just under 3 weeks out and busy!
Shrinkinqtpi replied to Shrinkinqtpi's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Yesterday went better than I'd expected. Well over my 64oz expected Fluid intake Had yogurt for Breakfast and shake for lunch. I missed having a shake during busy Houston traffic around 3:00 but felt cared for enough to actively participate in class. Everyone in the class was tired by the end around 8:30. When I got home I had some purées Beans and sour cream with cheese. Tomorrow marks the day I leave purées and officially start fork soft foods. Thank you for your support. The dilemmas here are I'm not ever home in a wakeful state & it is early in the food introduction phase. My NUT said the food is only to coat the inside of the stomach not feed/fill. It is about the process of training the stomach to take the food. I've packed supplies for 4 Protein shakes. 2 Vitamin waters. Taken all pills and packed what is needed through the rest of the day. It's time to pack the rest of what is needed. I'll post how it goes. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

@@Inner Surfer Girl - do the research - you can get enough protein from non-animal sources. Chia, quinoa, veggie-combining, beans. I personally also have some cheese (though I completely enjoy vegan alternatives), and eggs. We will all go through the malnutritive phase of this process. My surgeon's team has been extremely successful with this process (father/son practice). Few to no cases of kidney stones. Long term healthy heart check-ups from most. And most importantly a feeling of control within a framework of good nutritionally sound food plans based on research for anyone not just bariaric patients. This is a commitment for life for all of us and they are teaching us a different way in this clinic. So far so good. I'm a newbie, but have met enough people through group meetings and my clinic's information network that I feel confident in their advice. Protein is abundant in nature. I have already been eating between 40-60 grams of protein per day and I am only in the puree phase. It will only get easier.
-
@@Inner Surfer Girl The theory of the clinic is that if we get our Proteins from the rainbow of fiber options and focus on clean healthy eating we will eventually naturally crave what our bodies need. They are training our bodies to healthfully maintain the heart first then add Protein last.
-
@@Djmohr my NUT says the exact opposite. 2 bites of fiber and one bite of protein.
-
I just had my postop appointment and they said to eat whole foods appropriate to the phase you are in eating Fiber first then Protein like Beans or meat if you want. We do not have a protein goal we have a fiber first rule. Fruit and veggies are our friends! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
