    Sleep Apnea as Comorbidity

Mine was. It has to be over a level 20 and mine was/is 22. A high level is 60. Not sure of the units but know it is related to the number of times you wake up per hour. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Question about Sugar/Sweeteners

Stevia is a source of sweetness and Fiber. Truvia does not count. If you read the label and it has something added it is chemically altered. Sweet Leaf is a fantastic brand. Look online for it. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Sinus drainage

I have been working with an allergist. They have given me sinus sprays and allergy mess to minimize post-nasal drip AND I've been taking allergy shots. I'd talk to a doctor about drainage and make sure it is not an infection as well. I had trouble dialing in to the right meds for me and now use 2 nasal sprays at the same time. Your allergist or PCP can help with this. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Start my liquid diet tomorrow...

I like aria and have used a brown rice Protein for about a year. I am worried about using the mandated types suggested by my nutritionist so I have purchased the unflavored Bariatric Pal protein broth. Thank heavens she allows the protein broth and the joe product as well. It is decaffeinated but has the flavor. If only I could continue my products... But she said there is not enough protein in either of them. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Question posed to me from doctor

This is a complex question. My comorbidity that is most concerning is lung inflammation resulting from asthma and allergies. Seasonally, I get bronchitis which leads to walking pneumonia. I am working in concert with an allergist and bariatric surgeon to get control of this co morbidity. Seems like an off-task answer...? Not with the rest. Each year I lose between 30 and 60 pounds when I'm not sick due to metabolic changes, Water loss, and a regained ability to breathe with ease. Bariatric surgery will help me when well to reduce inflammation and maximize my health for those seasons most affecting overall health. I've lost weight successfully before and bariatric surgery may be my key to preventing walking pneumonia from reoccurring by increasing the weight lost I off-seasons. I'll do anything (allergy shots & gastric bypass) to not feel like death is around the next seasonal corner. Sad I waited until this point. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    JULY surgery dates!

@@living.loving.life I called again today and the insurance rep suggested I call my doctor's office since a nurse hadn't even been assigned to my case yet. So... I did. They are going to call on Monday and try to get it expedited. Hopefully, Monday will bring an answer.
  13. I called the insurance company and they still haven't assigned a nurse to my case for surgery approval after more than 2 weeks. They suggested the doctor's office call. Soooo, I called the doctor's office! They are going to call on Monday to request my case is expedited. Still in limbo - but there is potential action on the horizon!

Yup, don't stop calling. You have to be your own advocate and make sure that people are doing their job. Plus, if you bug them enough they just want to get rid of you.

      Good luck!

  14. Feeling patiently impatient waiting for the insurance company to make a decision. It has been two work weeks since my reassessment and the insurance company has not assigned a nurse to my case yet. Breathing. Distracting myself. And learning more every day about the process. Hopefully, there will be an answer soon.

    Coke zero

My best fried had gastric bypass about 8 years ago and besides loving food has an addiction to diet coke products. I watched her refuse to drink Water during recovery and slowly slide into old patterns with diet coke. She talks candidly with me now about how the sweetness and comfort of the old pattern enabled her to dabble in other areas of sweet consumption. She initially lost over 150 pounds and now has gained back 130. Just because it was the beginning of her slippery slope does not mean that it will be for you. Listen to your body. Talk to your nutritionist. Get a therapist if you have to. Make sure that you are in control not a previous addiction to artificial sweeteners/caffeine/bubbles or the lifestyle pattern from before surgery. I have not had surgery yet, but am surrounded by people who have had it. The lifestyle change is most essential in having a long lasting loss of excess weight.

    How long between each bite?

My nutritionist strongly recommended baby spoons as they help show our eyes what size bites we need to have. The goal is food to go down when it is the consistency of applesauce. We practice preop. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    JULY surgery dates!

Hello all! Still no news. Reassessment was on June 23rd. The insurance coordinator did not submit paperwork until the 29th after hours so AETNA does not count it as day 1. I know it is only the 7th but the wait is painstakingly drawn-out. It is time to take care of business!!! 9 business days since surgeon approval and potentially 5 business days from the last day AETNA said they would take. I went ahead and made another dietitian appointment for the 19th in case... You know. I'm ready to jump up from the losers bench and become a starter. Let's get started!!!!! AETNA! AETNA! AETNA! @@NewLA Thank you for clarifying. I have AETNA and have now waited 2 weeks since my paperwork was finished at the doctor's office.
