Hello from Long Island With Lots of ???????????/
hairyday replied to hotshotlawyer2B's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Seduve is right. Start as soon as you can to get the information you need. Start researching the doctors in your area and you can probably hit some of the info sessions alot of the surgeons have them. I'm from Rockland County, N.Y. and used Dr. Christine Ren Fielding at NYU in Manhatten. I looked at the Doctors closer to me, but my insurance didn't cover them. I am pretty happy with NYU though. Has anyone had their surgery near Knoxville, Tennessee?
hairyday posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi everyone! I had my surgery May, in N.Y., and it was very successful so far. What i'm curious about is Tennessee's requirements for Lap-band surgery, particullarly if there is an age requirement? I was just visiting my Mother in Seymour, Tn., and she is struggling with her weight and health. She seems to think she is not a canidate for the surgery because of her age, 70. Are there any 70 year old Lap-banders out there? I feel my mom is still young, but can age rapidly if she doesn't get her weight undercontrol. I know some of her health issues will not go away with weight loss, but they would greatly improve. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks to all, Liz a.k.a. hairyday -
I just had my third fill of one cc, giving me a total of 7cc. My restriction prior to this fill has been moderate. After this fill this morning I could drink slowly and could feel the increased restriction. But, this evenning i am having a difficult time drinking anything. I seem to be producing a lot of siliva and feel I am swallowing air. it also feels like I have an egg in my chest. I am I beleive Pb'ing which seems foamy and then liquidy, sorry if this is gross detail. I am wondering if I am to tight or should I give it a day or two to settle down. I would call my doctor but I figure there nothing can be done untill tomorrow. It is just rather uncomfortable. Does anyone have any insight? Thanks, Liz aka hairyday

Thanks for all your replies. I am doing well. I went back to the doctors and they removed .5cc and i felt better. I still have a good amount of restriction, but atleast now I can swallow water. I did loose 6lbs in one day, but I expect those pounds to come back once i get my fluids back.

Hi all, I was banded May 5th. All is going well, I am down about 48 lbs. I am going for my third fill Aug. 11. When I had my second fill I could feel more restriction but that didn't last too long. Also, I had more PB's when eating to quickly or mindlessly. Otherwise I have been trying to make conscience discissions. Best of wishes to all, it is always nice to check in with this site.

please read and if you hear me i need your input
hairyday replied to hairband's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi Hairband, I hear you. I think every time I had lost weight i had some feelings like you. I have done many years of counsceling to deal with lots of issues that i felt contributed to my weight and i think in a lot of ways counsceling has helped me to get to the point of being banded. But, i know i will be dealing with new issues, mostly how people change their treatment towards me as a thinner person. i have never liked peoples two sidedness. So, I'm seriously considering seeing someone when i start these feelings or maybe even before. I think "Banditone" has the right idea that people don't understand the mental side of being heavey, losing weight, and living with a transformed body. Most people, I believe, only see the physical changes and not all the complex emotional beams that can support or weaken our outer structure. I also think people put alot of time and energy on physical acceptance rather than self acceptance. I hope this helped you. please if you feel you need someone to talk to feel free to contact me. -
what else can I have on clear liquid diet
hairyday replied to slimm2be's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey slimm2be, I feel like i've been on liquids forever. My Dr. wanted 2 weeks of liquid diet, mostly protein shakes. though after surgery seemed more difficult for me clear liquids are boring! Now, I'm having some diluted cream soups and enjoying them, and i'm not an soup lover. As to never eating anything you like again, i found after reading the posts on this wesite it sounds that a lot of the people do eat many of the foods they enjoyed pre- band, just not with such great abandonment. Best wishes to you and stay intouch with your progress of your new adventure with food. -
Burning Sensation!!
hairyday replied to JerseyGirl2u's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Julsco, i was banded 5/5 luckly not much pain. but to be honest i haven't had any second thoughts as of yet. I figure anything i'm feeling is all due to the surgery and healing. Once I'm past the healing process and on regular food i'll see if i have second thoughts, but i'm not inticipating any. i hope your second thoughts go away soon so you can just enjoy all the benefits that will come your way from being banded. -
Burning Sensation!!
hairyday replied to JerseyGirl2u's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was justed banded on may 5th and my dr. said where the port is it takes longer to heal and for the port to meld with the muscle, approx. 4 to 6 weeks, thats why they don't want us to lift anything more than 10lbs. for six weeks. I just thought this might be the reason for the burning. -

hairyday replied to slimm2be's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Slim2be, I was banded May 5th also. I was on a liquid diet for two weeks before my surgery so by the time I had my surgery I thought it would be a breeze to be on thin liquids, not so. Can't wait to get to mushy food. My dr. does let me have protein shakes thinned, tomato soup diluted, but you do need to ask your Dr. to clarify what he means by clear. Curious -
Terrible start of my day..

Wow! Your mother is a truly a wonderful person. I can't speak for your mother. I can only speak as a mother, and what makes me happy is to see my daughter happy. Don't get me wrong I can have my selfish moments, just like anyone else. I think you should except your mothers gift and let her live through your joy, becuase that gives a mother lots of happiness. And also there is nothing like a child expressing the joy and knowledge of a mothers love and sacrifice. Best wishes to you and your new journey. -
i was banded may 5th and i'm feeling great. i have the expected discomfort but nothing immobilizing.

Hi everyone. I've been on this site many times in the past two months, but I have never really introduced myself. I started the lap banding process 2 months ago. I am now on the final stages. I am going for my pe-op testing tomorrow 4/21 at NYU. My tenitive surgery date is 5/5 and Dr. Ren is doing my surgery. My doctors office does not feel I'll have any problems with insurance approval. Everything has happened rather smoothly and quickly. Thanks to this site and all the people that participate within it I am not even very nervous about the procedure or the aftermath of surgery. I am looking forward to all the difficult and joyous changes. I thank you all for all the support I have recieved through reading all your concerns, joys, and hand holding that is so honestly represented here.
-
Thanks to all for your words of support. i just came back from my pre-op and all went well. WSW27 I saw Dr. Ren April 15th and got my date for pre-op, April 21, and Surgery, May 5th. It all went very quickly.

I take a capsule that has to be swallowed whole. Do I really have to change that med?
hairyday replied to yellowroseaz's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I too take two pills and one is time released. I just had my nutritionist/ nurse appointment and she said if the pill is bigger than an advil or aspirin it has to be ground up or cut in half. But a time release pill would have to re-perscribed in a smaller dosage so the pill will be smaller and you would take two or more pills to equal your current dosage. -
Hi Braven, I'm from N.Y. too, Rockland county. I just had my nutritionist/ Nurse appointment today and i'm meeting with my surgeon on Aprill 15th. Where are you having your surgery done? I'm going to NYU with Dr. Ren. Congradulations on your surgery!
-
I heard the same thing about Oxford.I go for my Nutritionist appointment 4/30 after that I can make an appointment with the surgeons. The doctors don't want to even see me until i go through all the preliminary stuff first. i can't wait to just do it all ready. BabyNicole thanks for responding. It seems like most people have a different insurance.

Does this change the future?
hairyday replied to jml108's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi John, I also am sorry about your Mother. I too have a family history of diabetes and other comorbidities and i see myself going down the same road as my family members. I started my lapband process about a month ago. i'm waiting for my nutritionist appointment now at the end of the month. i wish you the best on your process and along healthy future with your family. -
Does anyone else have Oxford liberty insurance, and if you do are they easy to deal with ?
-
Hi, I've been lurking also. "I have an appointment mar. 31 with the surgeons nutritionist and nurse. so far everthing has gone smooth for me. My insurance, Oxford Liberty, doesn't seem to require much, only a BMI over 40 which mine is 44. i haven't spoken to the surgeons yet they want all the preliminaries done first. After reading all the problems some people have with insurance I'm waiting to hit a road bump. welcome to all my fellow lurkers, i guess our journey is truly a reality now.
