I have always been a stomach sleeper. Obviously after surgery, I couldn't do that. I tried sleeping on my back but it feels suffocating. I tried rolling to one side or the other but I have a big stomach and it felt like things were pulling. So ever since surgery (9 days out), I have been sleeping in a chair. I'm pretty tired of sleeping in a chair to be honest and I am wondering how long before I can get a more comfortable night's rest? Thanks in advance! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Let's talk incision healing & scars fading!
magoosmom replied to Red_lips_and_confidence's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Bio Oil was recommended to me and it has pretty good reviews. I ordered some from Ulta.com. My incisions are glued. I am about two weeks out and only one has fallen off. Not sure how healed they are. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Looking for a new shake
magoosmom replied to Lizardlady's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am basically surviving the Protein shakes by making this: optimum nutrition vanilla powder scoop, 4 ounces of fair life milk, 4 ounces of Water, and 2 tablespoons of PB2. Put in a Blender Bottle and shake. Not too thick and not too sweet Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Best protein powder- mixed and premade!
magoosmom replied to Red_lips_and_confidence's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I haven't done any of the premade ones yet. I am using Optimum Nutrition's vanilla flavor powder. It has 24 grams of Protein per scoop and was recommended by my doctor's office. It isn't overly sweet to me. I mix it in a Blender Bottle with 8 ounces of Water for most shakes. I have found one shake that I really like b/c it's not very sweet at all. It's 1 scoop of the ON powder, 4 ounces of Fairlife milk, 4 ounces of water, and 2 tablespoons of PB2 powdered Peanut Butter. Not thick either. My other strong recommendation is GENEPRO unflavored powder. It's 30 grams of protein for one small scoop. I am a seriously picky eater and thought it would bother me, but it really doesn't taste like anything much. I have even added it to a cup of iced tea and all it did was make the tea taste powdery LOL. But easy to drink. -
Late June Sleeve Buddies?
magoosmom replied to Maggie143's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have at least two more weld before I can add those foods but having said that, every doctor has their own plan. There was a recent thread comparing all the different food stages. Welcome! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Week 1 & 2: Protein shakes and clear liquids Week 3 & 4: puréed food and Protein Shakes (plus drink my water)...no eggs allowed Week 5: add in fish, Peanut Butter, Beans (mashed), and canned meat products (yum?). Can add toast and crackers as well. Weeks 6, 7, 8: can do quite a few things but can't do beef or pork yet. After that, eat sensibly. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Late June Sleeve Buddies?
magoosmom replied to Maggie143's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm on day 11 post op and feeling a little bummed out today for whatever reason. I think I need to get out and do something lol. My cousin sent a text inviting the family out to a Mexican restaurant tomorrow night to celebrate her son's bday. I so don't want to go. Surrounded by some of my favorite foods and can't have anything? Ugh. But her eldest daughter is coming in from out of town and we rarely see her so I feel like I must go. I know it will get better and I'm focusing on my exercise and liquids. Just feeling a bit bummed. I get to add some puréed food Wednesday but I am just not that excited. It'll be two more weeks of that before I can add anything new. But it's worth. It's worth it. It's worth it. Lol Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

How soon after surgery were you permitted to swim?
magoosmom replied to higher's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mine said we'd see how the incisions look at my 2 weeks (next Wednesday). I am hopeful for clearance! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
I was still in pain that fourth day. I am 9 days out. I would like to try it but a little worried I will mess up the incisions or even mess up something inside. Lol. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Late June Sleeve Buddies?
magoosmom replied to Maggie143's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I use gene pro and like it. I am a super picky eater but it doesn't bother me. I have added it to broth (warm, not hot) and also to a cup of cold unsweetened tea. With the tea, I could tell a little bit of powderiness to it but it didn't affect the flavor. I don't know if it's 30 grams--I was thinking its 20--but it is only one tablespoon which is pretty easy to mix in. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
4 days out - liquid diet help
magoosmom replied to Red_lips_and_confidence's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
They say you don't feel the restriction with liquids bc they empty out so quickly. You can drink too much and have it come up but I think restriction happens when you advance to purée Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Late June Sleeve Buddies?
magoosmom replied to Maggie143's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was able to get a treadmill so that's what I have been doing to beat the heat. But my friend said she walked in her house just around and around. We were told walk ten minutes four times a day for the first week and then up it to 15. Heat index here has been over a 100 for a while so I am very glad for the treadmill lol Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Late June Sleeve Buddies?
magoosmom replied to Maggie143's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my surgery on June 21. First postop day was rough. I was nauseous and nothing sat right. I basically drank Water for the first couple of days. Everything tasted terrible those first days home. My tongue was coated with gunk--ugh--and I think that contributed. Pain was tough at first but now mostly just twinges. My biggest battle is trying to get all my pills down. I have to crush them based on dr instructions and I take a few things. That has been a real challenge. Overall though my energy is better and I can eat a bigger variety of things than before--broth is acceptable again lol, plus teas, water, and I actually don't mind the Protein Shakes. They always make my stomach feel full and almost soothed. Trying to get all my walking in each day. I think I am down about 20 pounds total but my scale is a real pain and keeps giving me different numbers (like get on it three times in a row and come up with weights with differences of five pounds or more...ridiculous). Good luck to those just starting! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Please, please tell me I can ditch the freaking CPAP after surgery?
magoosmom replied to Heather I's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I hate mine too and do not tolerate it. I have a setting of 16 and I'm fine with anything up to ten but at full blast it is unbearable. I have always been a light sleeper and I make it about an hour or two before I have ripped it off in my sleep. I also had to start keeping the machine on the floor because I was knocking it off my nightstand in my sleep. I am praying so hard that I can have the pressure lowered at my next visit. I lost about 7 pounds preop and had the surgery this past Tuesday. I am trying not to get on the scale because it changes a lot throughout the day. I haven't had too many calories so I know the pounds will drop eventually. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

When you can take pills again?
magoosmom replied to specialkiddomom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well, I am jealous. I can't take them for at least six weeks and it might be 3 months. I hate it. I take several bp meds and just trying to get through all the pills and Vitamins is daunting. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Anyone have to do post op liquid diet?
magoosmom replied to correak's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I only have the two weeks of liquids. I am on day four post op and I'm already sick of everything. Horrid taste in my mouth from ketosis isn't helping. I use optimum nutrition vanilla Protein powder. It's pretty mild, like vanilla pudding but not as sweet. I also use the gene pro unflavored. I am a super picky eater and I cannot tell the difference when I add it to broth. I was tolerating chicken and beef broth fine before the surgery but postop I am just ugh about them. I had some earlier today but it was a struggle. I'm sending my son out to get some cream of soups like liptons cup of soup in hopes that I will tolerate those better. Nothing ever sounds good right now so I'm really hoping to hit on something that tastes good before much longer. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Are sleeved folks able to eat popcorn at any point?
magoosmom replied to kadie777's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My NUT says in the future to eat Protein first, then veggies and if room, you can have a little carbs. So it's not forever but it is limited. I am going to avoid movie theater popcorn for sure bc it has disagreed with me in the past and I don't want to risk anything. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Just had mine on the 21st and asked my friend if she had a lot of pain with hers. My biggest incision is pretty painful. I wouldn't really need the pain medicine at all if it weren't for the incisions. Ready to start feeling better! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Day surgery or overnight stay?
magoosmom replied to tholbert08's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mine is a 3-day, 2-night as well. I am actually not having my surgery until 2:30-3:00 tomorrow so it will be late. I am surprised that it would ever be a day surgery--seems like such a major surgery to have. -
Mine too! Found out my surgery won't be until 2:30 or 3:00 (groan). That's a LONG time to go without Water...ugh! LOL I keep chanting: It's worth it, it's worth it LOL Good luck!!!

Hi everyone! I'm Victoria and I'm 40, living in Mississippi, and three days until surgery! Excited and nervous! I discovered BariatricPal about a week ago and I'm thankful to have this resource. My struggle with obesity didn't really begin until I went to college. Growing up, i was fairly average sized, and when puberty hit I did struggle with more weight, but not to an obesity level. When I went to college, had to fend for myself (i.e. shop and cook and make good choices in the dining room LOL) and then got homesick, the weight started piling on. After a marriage and then divorce, I was trying to juggle being a single parent, going back to school, and working. Long story really condensed, I made it to about 300 pounds and my weight kind of stayed around that mark. For about 17 years, I've been around that weight. I've done so many diets and failed at them that I literally felt defeated and kind of "what's the point" these past two years. Of course you can't be 150 pounds overweight for that long and not feel the effects. First came the high blood pressure. Went on one medicine. Worked for a while, then it got worse. Now I'm on three different medications to control it. In the meantime, I went from pre-diabetic to diabetic. I had always had issues with blood sugar, even at a healthy weight. I would have hypoglycemic episdoes (diabetes runs in my mother's family). I went on different medicines to control it...I guarantee I have been on pretty much every non-insulin diabetic drug out there, since I couldn't tolerate metformin. About a year or two ago, my A1C went to 9.8 and my internist basically said he didn't know how to treat it and I needed to see an endocrinologist. The endo wasted no time in telling me I needed to be on insulin. I cried. Definitely a breaking point for me. When it came to the surgery, my first thoughts about it were "Wow, that is so dang drastic." Seriously drastic. How could you choose to do that? Then as time went on and my diets failed and my health declined, "Hmmm. I wonder if I could do it." Then after the insulin, I realized that if I didn't do the surgery, I might not be around in ten years. Huge wake up call. All of a sudden, the drastic measure was looking like the best chance I had. I began the process back in October and now my surgery is in 3 days. I am blessed with a supportive family and I have several coworkers who have had it. Two had it this past spring. I'm nervous--lots of whatifs in my head--but mostly just so ready for a healthier me!

Pre-op diet [emoji53]
magoosmom replied to bellabeans's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think I am lucky in that my surgeon only requires 4 days of liquids (low carb for a week before that). The last day is Clear Liquids only. I'm in the middle of mine (day 3) and have found that the Protein shakes do fill me up for a bit. I do feel like, whether because of head hunger or because it's liquids, I want to eat more often. I'm just going with it honestly. Here's how mine has been: Morning: coffee; Protein shake (using Optimum Nutrition and 8 ounces of water; sometimes add Torani sugar-free syrup to change the flavor) Lunch: strained soup---picked lots of flavors and strain them when I'm ready and an Atkins Lift drink Afternoon: SF Jello or SF Popsicle Dinner: protein shake and strained Soup After Dinner: SF Jello and/or SF Popsicle (this tends to be the time when I feel the hungriest) I've been chewing gum/brushing teeth when I am "hungry" but know it's probably just head hunger. Usually quells the temptation. The first day, I had a lot more soup and felt hungrier, but it was easier yesterday.
