    I need help Alabama Bandsters....

You are doing wonderful and thankfully you have the insight to ask for help from others instead of that surgeon. Hope you get your fill and you continue on this magnificent journey. Wishing you the best! Dolores
  3. Has anyone every been accidentally pushed, kicked, etc in their port area? I was swimming with my 2 year old nephew who resisted my help in the pool and as he struggled away -- I got a heck of a kick right where my port is. That was Friday evening. Today, for the first time since I got banded 4-17-08 -- I threw up..it was gatorade but I feel uncomfortable. I'm calling the surgeon tomorrow but was just curious about anyone else's experiences. Thanks, Dolores 41 lbs lost
  4. Robert, when you eat something too quickly or don't chew your food -- yes you may feel uncomfortable. When this happens to me the best I can relate it to is drinking soda too quickly and it feels caught going down. A fellow bander showed me a little movement or "dance" she does an d believe it or not it does help. You will feel full and satisfied with the lap band (at least that is my experience). I have not had a fill and really don't feel like I need one since I've lost 34 lbs in 5 weeks after surgery. The surgeon's PA told me that there are cells located on or about/near the placement of the band and they send signals to your brain that you are full. Hope this helps! Best of luck,

    crying

Cindi, You are doing the best thing ever...getting this off your chest. We all have days like that so you are not alone. Like you said - you had the sense to stop at 500 not 5000 calories. My only advice is to use a cooking time or your cell phone as an alarm -- let it go off when you need to eat or else you'll forget. I learned this from my friend who had gastric bypass and it works for those of us with lap bands. You are doing great and will be a success on this journey! Take care, Dolores
  7. Robert, Of course this is a scary decision. Heck I took one of my friends to a seminar and was very supportive of her gastric bypass surgery and was astonished as to why she was scared when it was her week to have it done. Well, when it came to my turn to have a lap band done ...I was SCARED. April 17 is my new birthday because I was banded and have now lost 31 pounds. For me this is the best decision I could have ever made. I am proud of you and you will be in my prayers along with all the others who are with us on this journey. Please do the liquid diet because it does prepare you mentally and physically for what to expect when you see food and don't react "normally." I am on solid food but am also taking the liquid diet supplies from the surgeon's office for Breakfast. Feel free to ask me any questions regarding my experiences after the surgery. I've talked to many folks and several of us had the same experiences. Take care and let us know how you are doing. Best regards, Dolores

    Bands for BMI < 40

Sunflower, My BMI was 34 when I got banded on April 17, 2008. Thus far I'm doing well and have lost 30 lbs -- mainly due to the pre-op liquid diet and liquid/puree diet post op. My Primary care physician and surgeon both agree that this was a smart step. Keep on doing your homework to see if lapbanding is the tool you need to succeed in your weight loss strategy. Take care, Dolores

    Wierd Rash???

Hi Jeanne, I also got banded on April 17. I"m doing great but yesterday I noticed a WEIRD RASH on my neck and left hand. I am prone to rashes due to allergies but this one is different than my allergy ones which look more like hives. I have a call into the surgeon's office. Let me know what your doc says... Regards, Dolores
  10. I've been banded for one week. The gas pain was terrible -- what helped me was a heating pad on my back, having my Mom pat my back (yes just like a colicky baby), and Walking. The walking really did the most good. I timed myself 8 minutes per hour of just walking to help get the air out. Around day 4 I started getting intestinal gas so Gas X strips really helped me too. Right now on Day 8 I'm pretty much over my gas issues. Take care and best of luck -- Dolores
  11. I"m also being banded on April 17 but here in Plano, Texas. Best of luck to you and may you have a speedy recovery!!!

    Petrified

I'm scared too -- my surgery is April 17 and I just got so angry at my Mom because she told my negative aunt about my surgery! I even ate some chips knowing good/well that i should not have but the good thing is that I stopped. The fear is there for me too but the greater fear is getting fatter and diabetic with all the other chronic diseases associated with obesity. We will BOTH DO WELL and our LIVES will be GREAT. Keep in touch and I'll let you know how it comes out. Take care and I'll keep you in my thoughts.

    TLC Edge Dr's...

I'm scheduled to have my band with Dr. Kim on April 17? How is he as a person and doctor? I've met a lap band surgeon before and he was not too nice/friendly so I was turned off.

    Date Set April 17

I'm very excited and looking forward to moving into a healthier phase of my life. Right now I am just a little scared but I think that is natural because this is surgery not just an expensive trip to the doctor. My emotions are really making me wonder about my job, so-called relationship, and life in general. Who knows? My family and some friends are supportive of my decision so I'm not alone. I'm scheduled to meet the surgeon Dr. David Kim on Friday and look forward to April 17.

    liuid diet

I'm on my 5th day of the liquid diet and have 9 more to go. The first and second day were difficult but by the third it was easy since I am taking the Optifast medical weight loss drinks and soup. Has your surgeon or medical care team discussed this type of option with you? They really do fill you up.

    TLC Edge Dr's...

Hope you are doing well. I too just worked out my deal with TLC Edge and asked for Dr. Kim. Any comments you mind sharing about him / his staff? I'm a self pay and just want to make the best of the use of my funds. thanks, Dolores
  22. I just got my financing (I took a home equity loan on my house) for the lap band. Now my friends are like -- just exercise and you will loose it. My BMI is 34 and I'm 5'10 and weight 243. Ahhh, this is a major decision...anyone else out there feel like this?
