Oh my. I just went to cms.gov to do some research, the rep is right. You hv to have bmi 35 with sleep apnea, hbp, DM etc directly related to obesity. I am sure there might be a way to appeal this, maybe a very strong letter form your doctor? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Did you talk with a rep at your insurance? Is it insurance specific or plan/employer exemption? I am looking at the general info on the aarp Medicare plans and they do have the generic lingo, " you may be a candidate if you have a bmi over 40 and have tried other weight loss methods without success.....etc. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

MemphisWLS replied to Justgotsleeved's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@ Valentina: I've learned and am still learning about Herbs--domestic and exotic. I've learned to take ordinary food and make it extraordinary with herbs and spices without adding calories. I now know the difference between OK Protein and high end quality protein. Big difference there I love this post. I need help with those tips. Didn't realize there is ok protein and high end quality protein..... @@Justgotsleeved, this is your adjustment period, you will do great. I am cheering for you!! Aetna Net weight gain
MemphisWLS replied to Lenamarie301's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my surgeons appt last week and was told the last weight MUST not be more that the first one. You can gain 1 or 2 in the middle but the first and last must be the same or the last must be less. I am sure some pple hv been approved outside the requirements, but that's not the norm. I think someone asked about about the 3 months/6 months with Aetna visits...can't remember but, You can do either, my surgeons office will not accept the 3 months so unless I am willing to switch surgeons, it's 6 months for me. I am okay with that though, this is not one decision I would want to hurry through. Good luck ladies and let's keep encouraging each other. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

Thank you so much Connie. I am glad I found this site too. I have learned so much. A few days ago I figured out by mistake, that clicking on a name I can read all their previous posts. I have spent the last few days reading all the posts of some of our very awesome vets...I still have a long way in my journey as I am just starting, but thank you everyone for taking the time to share a little knowledge and show some kindness!!! Sleevers with Dr. Woodman in Memphis TN
MemphisWLS replied to MemphisWLS's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi Jay2016 please keep me update. My first appt with him is 8/8/16. I have to do 6 months with Aetna started last week. Saw Psych and my first weigh-in, seeing his recommended RD on 7/15. I have called the office a few times with questions and they were very abrupt and not rude but cold like I was bothering them. My PCP is with Germantown Internal Medicine. I was warned by psych that he is not warm and fuzzy, he can be quite rude but an excellent surgeon. We will see. I need warm and fuzzy....lolll. Anyway do you mind keeping in touch? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
I have noticed that a lot of sleevers are very excited talking about their experiences with their surgeons except those of Dr. Woodman. I have read wonderful reviews on Dyer, Westmoreland, Houston to name a few. All sleevers with Dr. Woodman in Memphis TN please take a few mins to tell us newbies how the experience went---, surgery, pre-op, office staff, dos and don'ts, bedside manner of Dr and any bit of information that might help all those interested. And yes I have Aetna Open Choice. Thanks Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

How was Mexico and which Doctor? Please tell me a bit more. I have been researching Mexico too. Dr Ortiz in Tijuana. It's amazing how dr. Woodman is one of the best in the area and he has done over 5000 procedures and I am looking at Ortiz with over 16000 under their belt. Some of the other doctors on this forum have about 200 and they claim to be the best to. This WLS is about to drive me crazy. I over research everything.... Thanks so much. Appreciate the response. We only have 3 doctors here in Memphis. Dr Woodman for both Baptist and Methodist hospitals and Drs. Wagner and Weaver at St. Francis. I work at Baptist so my ins will not pay for me to go to St. Francis. I only have the option of dr. Woodman and he is a brilliant surgeon I hear, but from threads he has horrible follow up and a bully. I am going to call Nashville areas centers to see if my ins will pay and what other options I have. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
