    Work

I took off a week and then traveled to a conference where I was sitting a lot. It was actually very helpful for me because I heal best when I'm occupied with other things. I also took a family member with me and her job was to make sure I was getting enough rest and Protein . I had a really easy recovery but everyone is different. Sleeved 1/11/17 help/emotional

I'm a mom of 4 as well and preparing food can be challenging in the recovery weeks. Are the kids old enough to take over some or all of the cooking by themselves? Even very young children don't need elaborate meals and the world will not end if they have sandwiches and fruit for dinner sometimes. That would be my first suggestion, to enlist their help if possible (or your partner, if you have one). Are you getting enough Water? What you are perceiving as hunger might be in your head but it might be thirst. Emotionally, of course you're off balance! You've just had life-altering surgery, your body is recovering, your endocrine system is adjusting, your whole body is trying to adjust to what's happened. I promise, this will pass! Soon you will be enjoying soft foods and puréed foods, and things are much more satisfying, food-wise. You've already had great success so hang in there!! Before you know it, things will seem normal and you'll be enjoying your new life. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  3. I was purging my closet and have a nice size 12 dress that fits me and I'm a size 8. I can wear a smaller size sometimes, even have a size 4 in my closet...but I'm closest to an 8 than anything. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Spooked

The complication rate is actually quite low. I had zero complications and reached my gw within 6 months of surgery. Most people are fine, althogh it's normal to be worried before major surgery! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Who will you tell that you are having WLS?

My husband, our four children (17, 16, 14, 9), my mother. My GP. That's it. My children have been amazing and my biggest cheerleaders. Everyone in my family is very fit so I've always been the odd one out. I am finally fully participating in all family activities! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  6. I'm a little more than 6 months post op. I hit my surgeon's "success goal" about 4 months after surgery. I am at a healthy BMI for the first time in 20 years. I am now going to lose 10 more so that I have some wiggle room in the healthy BMI range. The weight loss is very slow now, and I think my body is quite happy here (so am I!). I would also like to incorporate more regular exercise now. I exercise about 70 mins, twice a week. Trying to find a third day a week. Would like to take some yoga classes as well. Stall?

Your body is adjusting and attempting to reach homeostasis. It's very normal and it will pass. I wish I had listened to advice from veterans like JamieLogical who suggest staying off the scale. At about 8 weeks out I stopped weighing daily and weighed once a week. This gives me a better view of my weight and even when in a stall, I can see an ounce or two gone. You may find that you are smaller in size even if the weight is stalled. You'll get through it just fine! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Messed up already?

I could drink a lot immediately after surgery but was/am very restricted when it comes to real food. Sounds like all is well! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  9. It's going to depend on your sw. We often discuss pounds, but it's a more legitimate comparison to discuss %age of excess weight lost. I was able to hit a healthy BMI by six months out. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  10. Also thinking that it's not enough calories. How much Water are you getting in? Increasing water to 70 oz a day helps me a lot. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  11. That happens to me if I overeat or have too many carbs. It feels very flu like and miserable. Does it happen only when you eat certain things? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    SCARED OF DEVELOPING GERD!

Prior to surgery the only times I ever had heartburn were in the final weeks of my pregnancies. Post surgery I have GERD. I take a daily pill. It's fine. It's a small trade off for my overall health. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  13. No issues. We are healthy meals before. Now it's much the same but low carb variations. I honestly don't think my family notices differences in meals. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  14. Sleeve. It's not reversible which was important for me; I can still get most of my nutrients from food, few absorption problems. Great choice, couldn't be happier! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  15. Fear of failing at WL even with surgery as well as fear of no longer being fat... I used my weight as an excuse not to do many things and I was afraid of the level of autonomy i would have. Also having failed so many times at WL, I feared being that anomaly who failed after wls. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  16. No complications- was at work six days post op; it was a tiring week but do-able. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

How Often Do You Weigh Yourself?

Once a week unless I'm concerned about something. Trying to establish a normal relationship with the scale! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  19. I think there must be a formula based on original size since we all have different starting weights and amounts of excess weight. I was a size 20 and now I'm size 8. I would have said size 12 before wls becauze I couldn't conceptualize myself being smaller prior to wls. Size 8 feels perfect for me! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  20. Did anyone develop a cough following surgery? I have a chronic cough that has been addressed multiple ways unsuccessfully. My throat is often irritated and thus the cough-- I'm not actually ill. I've been treated with steam treatments, steroids, breathing exercises, numbing spray, and nothing works. I've upped my exercise schedule thinking that if I work my lungs harder it will stop, but so far that doesn't seem to be the case.

    chronic cough

Right-- they don't think it's a GERD issue. It's not the worst thing ever but it is annoying. It's worse when I exercise. I think I tend to breathe shallowly when I'm not exercising and wonder if that's a factor. My regular doctor said that the cough reminds him of the chronic cough that some HBP meds cause, but I don't take those meds. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Dry cough, developed it after surgery, six months ago Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  24. I think that his video is a nice representation of the drinking after eating rule: My surgeon said to wait 15-30 minutes but a few sips won't matter much if it's to help food go down. Every surgeon is different, though.
  25. I was saving for something else as well. Buying surgery gave me far less anxiety than buying a new car The investment in my health and future seems like a no-brainer now. Ditto what Dub says-- best $$ I've ever spent, no regrets at all (except not doing it sooner).
