    Low energy

Hi all, I'm hoping some veterans can chime in. I'm a teacher and was sleeved July 12, things went well, very easy recovery. I go back Aug 1 for a week and a half of workshops, etc, and kids arrive Aug 17. I'm on soft foods now. Eating is a chore. I am seldom hungry, and I don't look forward to eating. I am vigilant about Protein and liquids and have my surgeon's goals every day since July 14. I'm really tired since I graduated to soft foods. I am easily fatigued until afternoon. I'm consuming 400-500 calories/day. I'm walking every day. I've never been compliant in my life! Before surgery I was definitely a morning person and very productive in the mornings but now I was to sleep in and do very little. How can I boost my energy level? Would changing my diet in some way help? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App Meant to say that I've never been SO compliant in my life before. 800 calories ? IS IT ENOUGH?

My surgical team told me specifically not to count calories but to learn to eat without getting full (which I've done once and regretted!) Protein is key and then Water on my plan. I can eat 3 oz at a time and feel satisfied for several hours. My team said I should be getting 500-800 calories/day for a while and that's been a good range for me. I don't count calories but I'm around 600-670 per day as I am able to eat "anything you can cut with a fork-- excerpt Pasta or rice," as per my nut. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  5. Jogging in the Water is good exercise. All of my kids are competitive swimmers -- one is a lifeguard this year-- and this weekend they taught me to breathe properly while swimming laps. If you can get that down, it will really help. Breathing right makes swimming much more efficient and I can swim for longer periods of time. I was cleared for swimming two weeks post op. 6. I went to a post op patient meet up and was talking with a lady. She was saying that she gained 2 lbs in a day and was worried this was the start of a stall. Would someone gain weight on a stall? If someone seemed to gain 2 lbs in a day would that be Water? Trying to understand the terminology. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    2 week check up

This made me laugh! My first non-Protein shake meal was some Greek yogurt. It tasted better than anything I'd had in a while. Congrats on a good first two weeks. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Buyers remorse

I too had that awful moment when I thought, "what have I done?'" That was on the 5th day after surgery. It lasted about a day. What helped me enormously was to focus on other things. Do you have anything you can do to distract you from worrying? I actually went to work after a week off and it helped a lot to have a different focus. Also, you've just made a huge decision with no going back, so it's normal to have some anxiety. I'm in my third week since being sleeved and every day I feel better and better. Be gentle with yourself and this will pass. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  10. My team's nut said it is ok during the second week of soft foods. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  11. I'm starting Week Four (the last week of food restrictions on my plan!) and I feel great! I want to start exercising so as to maximize weight loss and increase flexibility as well as try to avoid saggy skin. I have been cleared for swimming (I'm not a great swimmer but I can get better) and I'd love to run. Weights at the gym aren't cleared until Week Five but virtually all else is ok. Does anyone have a great exercise plan to share? I can reasonably get to the gym 4 days a week and I can exercise at home/outside most of the year. What's working for you? How did you get started? Surgery on 8/8!

So excited for you! I was sleeved three weeks ago and recovery had been easy. I drank tons of Water and drank Protein as directed the first week, which I believe helped me to heal so well. Be sure to listen to your body as we all react differently and be prepared for a shot emotional crash similar to buyer's remorse. The people on Bariatricpal are nothing short of amazing and you will find what you need in all phases of your journey. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Post Op Q's from a newbie

Hi Charlie24! I'm only a few weeks out but... 1- Swelling went down to a normal size during the second week. 2- I didn't use anything but my doctor said Ducolax. 3- I advised against it so I didn't. 4- No toothache. 5- Absolutely. I was allowed to shower the day after surgery and the surgeon said to let the warm soapy Water wash over the incision sites, BUT I have surgical glue, not bandages. At two weeks the surgeon said I could go swimming. 6- Yes, that means you are healing nicely. 7 and 8 don't really apply yet but so far my recovery has been fast and I feel great! Best of luck to you are you recover. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App As you recover, that is. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Protein Shake

I had to add extra Water to mine. I don't like sweets so the two weeks on Protein shakes was long. I mixed them with decaf instant coffee, and with single serving Crystal Light. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  16. I'm planning ahead for meals. I leave the soft foods stage on Aug 7. My nut said at that point I can whatever I want provided I'm focusing on protein/nutrients and limiting carbs (no fruit until 3 months). Those of you who are eating regularly, do you eat crispy foods? One of my favorite things to eat is carrot sticks, raw bell peppers, etc with hummus. I can up the Protein in hummus pretty easily, but is it ok to eat it with raw veggies? The surgeon said that it's a trial-and-error process, some people do well with uncooked veggies and some don't.

    Low energy

I added a B complex after looking at my blood work and it really makes a difference. Oddly my multivitamin had no Iron so when I reorder I will be sure to look for iron. I take Biotin, B12, multi and now a B complex. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    First week & Second week

My plan was different, I was only on clear liquids one day after surgery then went to full liquids for two weeks. I only had Protein shakes and Water. I'm in week 1 of soft foods which is a 2 week phase. I eat scrambled egg, cottage cheese, puréed foods, Greek yogurt, shredded soft cheese, Soup, etc. My team doesn't want me to worry about fat content or calories for the first two months-- just focus on liquids and protein. Low energy

@@KristenLe, I take a Bariatric Multivitamin as well as a B12 supplement. Maybe I need a B1 as well? My support team isn't concerned about calories right now. My surgeon doesn't want me to worry about calories for the first two months and to focus instead on Protein as well as adding in nutrients from veggies. At two months the nut will help me establish calorie goals. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  23. I have a food scale and I weigh everything. I can eat about 2 oz right now. I have to make myself eat because I don't feel hungry. I think that I over ate yesterday and I felt awful... Like flu. Since I can't really tell if I'm full I'm using the measurements, eating very slowly, and focusing on evenly distributing Protein among three meals. Getting sleeved July 12

I was sleeved July 12! How is everyone doing? My first two weeks were great. I only needed pain relief the night I was in the hospital and had very little pain, none after the first week. I'm in soft foods now. I'm very tired every morning and don't really perk up until after noon... Previous to surgery I was up early and really productive. Now I'm fatigued. I am taking in around 450-500 calories a day. Any ideas about combatting the energy sap? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  25. I'm in the soft food stage and notice that sometimes after I eat I feel sick, like I have flu or something. Today I ate some pureed chicken to which I added a bit of plain Greek yogurt. After I felt like I would throw up, felt really bad. It passes after about 30 minutes. Could it be what I'm eating? I'm eating slowly, small amounts. No liquids 20 minutes before or after.
