    3 months - Hair Loss Post-Op

At four months I was shedding like crazy. I'm six months out and it's finally stopped. I had several inches cut and layers added. I started with a lot of hair and it looks ok, but it's not full. I have been taking Biotin since surgery. Also, my hair texture changed... I have curly hair now, before it was wavy. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Exhaustion

How are your Vitamin levels? I was low on B12 and Calcium. supplements helped me a lot when dealing with fatigue. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  3. I was out six days. I worked for a week and then had a week of scheduled vacation time (I'm an educator and that week was our last week of summer). Going back to work helped me a lot because I was able to focus on something other than myself. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Deal breaker.

I couldn't have coffee 24 hours before surgery and for a week after, as per my plan. My nut said coffee is ok but for every cup I consume I need to replace it with Water because it's a diuretic. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Alcohol.

I have no idea. I've never been a drinker. Maybe twice a month. I'm not too keen on drinking carbs especially since I'm not a wine, beer, whiskey (etc) enthusiast. There is a big social event coming up for me next month and I may have some wine, but probably not. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

  7. As for eating out- I share with my husband. He's not overweight but it does help him to have appropriate portions. Restaurant sizes are stupid big. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    I chickened out

I backed out of gastric band four years ago. When I decided to have VSG this summer I was in a much better place and had the full backing of my family. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  9. 1). For the first week I couldn't eat more than 450 calories a day, then during the next week, about 500. Right now my goal is 650-800: 800 simply is too much. I average around 650-700. In a month my nut wants me at 700-800 per day. It changes with each significant percentage of weight lost (10%, 25%, 50% etc). I think the maintainance is 1200-1500 but my surgeon says this will very much depend on how active I am. 2) The Protein shakes I drink are Vitamin rich. I love veggies and fruit but seldom have room for them. My nut says I will take Vitamins for the rest of my life. I take a multi, B1, B12. Biotin. 3) My surgeon says one day I will be able to eat 4 oz at a time. I can't yet. 4 oz would make me very sick. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Alcohol.

This thread is causing me to rubberneck. Just when I am ready to look away, something new catches me. On my doctor's plan alcohol after a month is permitted if it isn't carbonated and if the patient wasn't a heavy drinker before. The plan says nothing about Cheezits or Catholicism, however. Pre-op vitamins

I'd ask your surgeon or nut. I take B1, B12, calcium, Iron, and Biotin supplements in addition to a daily multi as per my nut. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Would you do it again?

Yes. I'm a teacher and I was sleeved 7/12. I took off that week and returned to work for a week of professional development starting July 19 and was fine. I had the following week off and went back for good Aug 1. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    New clothes and spicy food

A lot of my pre surgery clothes had elastic waits so they actually can work for a while. When you get things depends on what you have, budget, etc. Like a lot of women I have a few sizes in my closet including some that are 2-3 sizes down from my pre surgery size. Also, most of my weight loss thus far has been abdominal. I wasn't really expecting that. Your new shape will emerge and it is possible it won't be your old shape. Great! I'm going to join as soon as it's private. Or maybe it can be named something really crazy. "North Dakota Button Enthusiasts" or "July Shirt Sleeves..." Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Annoying Co-Workers

Women aren't catty and gossipy by nature. They can be a great support system. Those blanket statements are not helpful. Deal with people on a case by case basis. Care what people think or don't care, but don't demonize half the population because of a few bad apples. I chose to tell only a few people. My husband of course and my children, my mom. They three people from work I've told are all women and to my knowledge no one has gossiped. They've been great. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Why I'm here

You have made such a good decision. You have to prioritize your health in order to maximize your ability to care for others. I think being anxious is one of the stops on the journey (so is temporary regret). You will be fine, you will recover, and you will start changing life for the better. I was a very active fat person. Ok, I'm still technically fat, but really close to being merely "overweight." Many of us have struggled with the choice to put ourselves first but it's absolutely ok to do that. Good luck and keep us posted! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    30/30/30 rule

Mine surgeon didn't say 30/30... He said 20 before and 30 after but can reduce that to 15/15-20 around 3 months. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  23. I was just over 200 when I made the choice, after considering it for 4 years. I was at a high of 214 four years ago and was about 206 pre op, maybe 200 day of surgery. I did this for my health because although I was an active obese person (at my height 200 is definitely obese) I had insulin resistance, hpb, history of heart disease on both sides of my family. I want to live a long and healthy life. I have kids that are fit and active and I want to see them grow up. My surgery team shared a lot of new research with me showing how beneficial wls is for patients who are not morbidly obese. I was obese at the time of surgery but not morbidly obese. I see no reason to continue down a path that clearly isn't working for me, so why not harness the tools that surgical technology can provide for me? Also-- it's really no one's business. San Antonio anyone?

I was sleeved 7/12at the Nix. So far so good. LxA, how are you doing so far? I lost about 25 lbs the first month. That includes weight loss from pre op diet. I weigh every two weeks. Feeling terrific, no complications and easy recovery thus far. Actually my doctor says I am fully recovered so it's focusing on the post diet for the next several months. From your numbers it seems like you are doing fantastic! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
