Puréed food stage options
Dashofpixiedust8 replied to katchee's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I cooked up a couple chicken tenderloins in the oven. Seasoned them with salt, pepper and garlic powder and puréed up the cooked chicken with different sauces. Pesto and chicken broth to make it moist. Hoisin sauce and chicken broth. My favorite was a little hoisin sauce, peanut butter, chicken broth, and a drop of sriracha! -
Not feeling good
Dashofpixiedust8 replied to Dashofpixiedust8's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Thank you everyone. They kept me overnight in the hospital. I'm still really nauseous even though they keep giving me zofran. The good news is my catscan was fine. They are doing a swallow study tomorrow. So I'll be here atleast another night. I'm hoping my nausea subsides soon because it's awful -

Thanks everyone! I called the surgeon on call and he wants me to come to the emergency room. So that's where I'm off to! ???? I'll let you know how that goes -

I am having trouble getting my liquid goals of 60 ounces a day. I am 3 weeks post op and I get full so quickly and can't seem to drink enough. I usually end up with around 40 ounces of liquid a day. I have to stop drinking 30 minutes before having puréed food and can't drink for 30-60 minutes after having puréed food. There are many times I go a few hours without anything because I feel so full and sick. Do any of you have any tips?

Nice to meet you Phyllis! My name is Alyssa! -
I stayed 5 days ???? But they were having trouble controlling my pain and I was very nauseous and couldn't drink anything so I stayed extra days.

That sounds like a good idea moving somewhere new! I would love to do that. I also had the band. I got the band in 2008 and had it removed in 2012. I just had the sleeve on 5/27!

I definitely understand where you are coming from! But try to remember you are only 6 months out and you have lost a large amount of weight! I understand the want to get married when you get thinner. As a large woman my dating pickings are slim. You are always wondering if the guy is dating you for you or for a fetish. I stopped dating for over a year just because it got so frustrating! I feel like when I'm thinner I will have more options (hopefully!). But then I'm also worried because I may not be fat then but I'll have all this extra skin ????. But I want to find someone who can love me like I love them. I'm hoping this surgery will help me start my life. I've been trapped in my body my whole life. I'm looking forward to the day I am free.

Im still on the pureed stage Sent from my SM-N920P using the BariatricPal App You can still have caned tuna or chicken with mayo on puréed. Just put it in a blender/food processor with some mayo and a little milk until it is the right consistency. You can spice it up however you like too!

Ways to celebrate weight loss?
Dashofpixiedust8 replied to Dashofpixiedust8's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
90 pounds?! That's fantastic! You'll definitely need to celebrate the 100 pound loss you're so close to. What about doing something that you couldn't have done before? For me, I think I'd like to try a zip line, or take a river rafting trip, or jump on a trampoline, or go horse back riding. Maybe even sky diving. Eek! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App Thanks! Yeah I was thinking of doing something I couldn't do before but I'm still pretty heavy. I started at 545 so right now I'm at 455! I still can't do much but I'd like to do something! I'd also love to do something like ziplining, trampoline, skydiving, zorbing, parasailing, hang gliding but I still have a ways to go! @@Dashofpixiedust8 i got my first tattoo put on right wrist first 3 letters of grand-kids small italics, little red heart under each letter M organ A ndrew E than they are the reason for being a proudgrammy i am also a proud breast cancer survivor little italics on right ankle saying survivor a beautiful colored little butterfly under survivor this is for my 86 year old mom - she lives for butterflies many more NSV's to follow pre and post op weight loss is great!!! 90 lbs down!!! wonderful milestone with many more to follow kathy congrats I love tattoos! Favorite Protein Shakes
Dashofpixiedust8 replied to Fettchick83's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I love the GNC lean shake pre made shakes. My favorite flavors are strawberry (tastes kinda like strawberry nesquik), banana, and pumpkin spice (tastes like the cereal milk from Cinnamon Toast Crunch). I also use the protein mix from optimum nutrition gold standard. I get it from Costco. -
I had my first visit with the surgeon in October 2015 and had to do 6 months medically supervised diet. I had my surgery on May 27th. My surgeons office handled the medically supervised diet differently. Every month I would meet with the nurse and then the dietitian at their office. In the time I was completing the supervised diet I also completed the required testing. Once I completed all my pre surgery required tasks I was able to speak to the scheduler and set a date that day (my last supervised diet visit). Good luck on your journey and keep us updated! ☺️

Sleevers who started over 400 lbs or BMI of over 70
Dashofpixiedust8 posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I just got my sleeve on May 27th and while I'm having pain issues I'm still hopeful. When I started this journey I weighed 540 lbs and I am 29. I have gotten down to 472 after the 60 lbs lost during 6 months pre op prep and the 10 lbs at my 2 week post op. I'm just curious if any others out there had started at such a high range and what their experiences have been with weight loss and loose skin after weight loss. Has anyone with this high weight gotten to their goal weight? Thanks! Alyssa -
Each insurance has a different policy. My plan with BCBS required me to have 6 months of medically supervised diet. During that time at each visit I needed to lose or stay the same weight. There also may be requirements from your surgeon. My surgeon required medical imaging to make sure there is nothing wrong with my stomach, blood work, a psych evaluation with a psychologist they provided, attending a support group for Bariatric surgery, getting cardiac clearance and pulmonary clearance. Then I also went through a nutrition class when I had s surgery date set. Your surgeon may not require all that but that's what I went through. Then after I finished all the requirements I could schedule the surgery but it is usually 2-4 weeks out so they can submit the information to insurance and see if they will approve it since this is a voluntary surgery. That was just my experience though, others may have had something different!

Puréed stage questions
Dashofpixiedust8 replied to Charlie Brown's Momma's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
@@fancypants67 I just advanced to puréed food and tried baby food because it was one of the things suggested. I thought it was disgusting! I even tried to doctor it up with some seasoning. The taste was actually tolerable but there was a horrible aftertaste. But you might like it. To be fair I do not like any sort of canned meat (chicken or tuna), I also do not like any canned soup that has meat in it ???? So I might not be the best person to judge. My nutritionist always tells me it's going to be all trial and error from now on! I saw try it! But have a back up meal ready just in case ???? -
How do I tell my surgeon he screwed up?
Dashofpixiedust8 replied to thomas1984's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had read this thread and just wanted to add that you may not have meant to eat the whole 20 ounce steak but the fact is that you did. I understand that you just took the steak just like everyone else who was there and planned on taking the rest home. As other users have suggested, a great tip for not eating more than you meant to is only keep the portion you are planning to eat on your plate. Either by getting another plate and putting the remainder on the other plate or bringing a Tupperware/take out container and putting the remainder in there before you start to eat. One thing you said that struck me was that you seemed to think that when other users suggested you should rely on will power instead of your sleeve. The sleeve is just an aid and unfortunately will not fix your weight problem on its own. If it did, so many more people would undergo surgery. You also need to change your habits. You'll have to measure your food, tracking your food and liquids also helps so you know how many calories, liquid, and Protein you are consuming. Making smarter choices is also important. It might not be ideal but in order to a grove maximum weight loss we might not be able to eat what "everyone else" has. Instead of steak, maybe have chicken or shrimp. It's all about being mindful of what we are consuming. In reference to you wondering if there is something wrong with your pouch, there is a chance there is, but most likely there is not. When you have a smaller stomach and you eat a larger amount you can forcefully push undigested food into the intestines. This is also why it's important to measure. There also could be a chance you have stretched out your esophagus to accommodate the food that won't fit in your stomach. I do also suggest getting the barium swallow test. I wish you good luck in the future but I also suggest you start measuring and weighing your food do you can be successful. -
