    3 weeks tomorrow and lost....

I had surgery on May 27th. My nausea started about 3 weeks out. I had really intense nausea and was admitted for 9 days when it started. Got a picc line put in at the end of June to infuse TPN (fluids and nutrients) because I couldn't eat or drink. I didn't eat or drink for over a month. I finally started to eat and drink slowly, starting small. I only just had the picc line removed on October 10th. I've suffered with bad bad nausea since June that I've had to use 5 antinausea meds (zofran, emend, scopolamine patch, Granesitron patch, hyoscyamine, and Ativan) to just get by and I still felt the nausea while on them. I'm only just starting to feel okay and not need to take antinausea meds round the clock. Starting weight: 540 Surgery Weight: 480 Current weight: 375 Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Do any of you vets completely ignore this rule?

I am a newbie and had my surgery on May 27th and have had issues since. My surgeon said I could have flat Soda if that helps. Right after I had surgery I had no interest in food or drink and was in a ton of pain. I ended up taking dilaudid for 3 weeks and I also had mild nausea so I took zofran every so often. I finally was feeling okay again and then 2 days later the extreme nausea hit. I took my 8 mg zofran and it did nothing, I thought maybe I was hungry so I tried to eat..huge mistake. I threw it up and the nausea got worse and then the pain started. I gave it another day and when I still felt so sick I went to the ER. Just the smell of coffee made me want to throw up. I could not be around food or think about food I was so nauseous. I ended up staying in the hospital for 9 days and they did an endoscopy to open up a kink I had in the connection from my stomach to my intestines. They put a picc line in and I had to give myself infusions every night to give me fluids and nutrients since I couldn't eat or drink. I did not eat or drink anything for over a month because of the horrible nausea. I finally was able to start eat and drink a bit a month or 2 ago but I still have issues getting enough Protein and Fluid in. I am trying all different Protein drinks and powders but I'm really only able to eat a yogurt small amounts of protein throughout the day. Right now my intake st each meal is a 5 oz yogurt or 2-3 oz protein and 1 oz veggies. I had been giving myself those infusions all the way up to a week and a half ago. That was when I had my second blood infection from the picc line and landed me in the hospital again. I often read the stories of others experiences and how great they are doing and I can't help but be jealous. My surgeon assures me that this is normal and it happens to a few people after the surgery. He said it should go away after a few days or months, they aren't sure. Well it has been months and I'm still suffering. It has been a long road. I had my gallbladder removed last Tuesday and went home from the hospital on Wednesday. I was back in the ER on Saturday and am now in the hospital again awaiting results from tests to see why I am in extreme pain with vomiting... Even though I have had a really tough time I don't regret the surgery. It's saved my life. Starting weight:540 Surgery weight :480 Current weight:383 I wish you the best of luck! 9. You just out of surgery? That's great... I started about where you were and was -24 at 2 weeks... great job!!Thanks! Actually I had surgery on May 27th! I started out at 540 a year ago! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App Wow!! I would love to have that kind of loss 5 months later -- can you give me an idea what you're doing? (cals, carbs, Protein, typical foods, etc.) Well I've actually been having a lot of complications unfortunately. I had a picc line in to infuse TPN every night to give me enough fluids and nutrients. Last Monday I was admitted to the hospital with a 103.9 fever amd my second blood infection. They removed the picc line and said we will stop the TPN now. I'm getting my gallbladder removed tomorrow (I have stones). I have been eating around 600-750 calories a day. I drink 2-3 premier Protein shakes a day to get my protein in. I try to eat 4-6 small meals a day. Some examples of those meals I eat are a yogurt, or 1/2-1 egg and 1-1 1/2 piece of bacon, 2 oz meat (like half a burger, some chicken breast, pork tenderloin, steak) and 1-2 oz veggie or side (spaghetti squash, green Beans, Brussel sprouts, squash, broccoli, cauliflower, potato, or salad). I cook the meat in different flavors like Mexican, Asian, Italian, anything I'm interested in that night! I get a lot of recipes from the skinny taste or Emily bites website. I also use weight watcher cookbooks. A lot of them have pretty low calorie recipes that are actually really delicious! I don't really count my carbs but I do have some throughly the day. I also snack on some popcorn from Trader Joe's (white cheddar baconesque, white cheddar, sour cream and onion) I can only eat half a cup and that's only between 35-40 calories!
