Medications and surgery types
Dashofpixiedust8 replied to jennmonterrozo's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I had the sleeve and I could take pills right after surgery. I am 11 months out and am told to never take nsaids though. I am on extended release Welbutrin, Trileptal, Latuda, Prilosec, Methotrexate, Folic acid, and now all my multivitamins. -

I had the sleeve surgery 5/29/16. I am a very social person and very open. I was open with my friends and some of my family and some coworkers about the process I was going through and that I would be having the surgery. Since starting this process I have lost 250 pounds. That is a pretty noticeable difference! In my experience people are curious how you've achieved such great results and when they ask I just tell then I had weight loss surgery and I just watch what I eat and exercise. Most of the time they just accept that answer and say okay! Some people ask how it was and I tell them that I had issues in the beginning but it has saved my life. I tell them about my small portions and the focus on protein. Ultimately it's up to you how much you share. You owe them nothing. If they ask you how you are doing it just tell them you are eating healthier and trying to be active...WHICH IS TRUE. You don't need to divulge your whole story. For myself I tell anyone and everyone. I'm EXTREMELY proud of my weight loss. For example, I was just at the lab to get bloodwork and was so excited to fit in the chair with the arm down I couldn't contain my story and told her how I used to not be able to put the arm down and I had lost 250 pounds. That's me though. I'm very open about my experiences and I like people to know how hard I've worked. When I am able to fit somewhere I couldn't before or do something I couldn't I am SOOO surprised still. My mentality is still in the 540 pound woman who can hardly walk and can't fit most places. I think part of me telling people is that I'm still overweight and want people to know I am working on it and have already come a long way and won't be like this forever. That is my own insecurity though. In conclusion...just do what you want. Share what your feel comfortable sharing. You will be surprised at how little people judge you for it. At least that has been the case in my experiences. -
Who did NOT loose hair or much?
Dashofpixiedust8 replied to Rita48's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I'm 30 years old and had the sleeve 5/29/16. I had no hair loss that was different than usual and I have long hair. I didn't do anything special. -
Let's talk NOT meeting protein goals
Dashofpixiedust8 replied to Tessa1988's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
If you continue to not reach your protein goals it will affect your weight loss. The goals have been set to ensure we stay healthy but also to help promote weight loss. If that is all you were eating you also are not getting enough calories. If you not meet your calorie and protein goals your weight loss will slow or even stop. -
People say there is a 6 month "Honeymoon" phase. I am 11 months out from surgery. In the 6 months after surgery I lost 108 pounds. In the next 5 months I have lost 82 pounds. So on average in the first 6 months I was losing 18 pounds a month and in the last 5 months I have been losing on average 16 pounds a month. So there hasn't been a huge difference for me. It is important to note that I was at a very high starting weight though. I started the process at 540 pounds and had surgery at 480 pounds. I am not 290 pounds 11 months out from surgery.

I REALLY recommend NOT eating baby food. I tried it and it was TERRIBLE. I suggest finding some healthy slow cooker recipes and using a food processor or nutribullet (thats what I used) to make it into a puree. Foods cooked in a slow cooker are softer to begin with and will puree better. You can also just cook regular meats and puree them with broth, milk, or a sauce. I used things like hoisin sauce, pesto, anything that will add flavor but not a lot of calories. Since you eat so little you can use what you want. I also suggest things like refried beans. I heated some up with a little cheese and sour cream.

@Kiwi_N_Rio Congrats on getting the surgery! Good luck! @janedoe92 Everyone goes through stalls, it's hard but sometimes inches change when the scale doesn't! @ssbthodge Congrats on getting to ONEDERLAND!!!! @chuswysly Do you need any help? -
I am beyond ecstatic. I am now below 300 pounds! I started at 540 pounds on October 29, 2015 when I started this whole journey. I had surgery on May 29, 2016 at 480 pounds and Now, 10 1/2 months later I weigh 297.8! I have not had a 2 in the front of my weight in FOREVER. I only have 98 pounds to go until I hit my goal! (Which may change, I'm more going for a clothing size goal now more than a number goal ) I used to have to be on oxygen all the time because I was so fat I could not breathe properly. Now I can walk for over an hour with no break and not be out of breath! I am so extremely happy with my progress! I used to HATE getting my picture taken, it was the WORST. Now I love getting in front of the camera, I ASK for pictures to be taken! This is the craziest thing for me. I feel pretty for the first time in a very very long time. I started out at a size 6x (36-38) and now wear a an 18/20 on top and 22 on bottom. I even wear leggings now! I have a large hanging skin on my stomach which I am having removed on June 5th! I will need a revision surgery when I get to goal but I am very excited for the surgery and the relief it will give me. Here are some before and after pics for you guys!

@LoshoThank you! I'm glad I could inspire you! I can't wait to hear about your journey! @needtorecover I feel better than amazing! Thanks! -
I had a great feeling today. I went for a walk with my parents in my neighborhood and I haven't really walked around the neighborhood in a long time. It brought back memories from over a year ago when I couldn't even walk one small flat block. Now I'm walking around multiple blocks and up and down hills. Without getting even a little out of breath. It was a great reminder of where I started and how far I've come.

@Deactivatedfatgal You might or you might not! Everyone is different. My plastic surgeon suggested I wait 2 years for the arm or thigh lift. -
