Periods and food
Dashofpixiedust8 replied to Dashofpixiedust8's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
@OutsideMatchInsideThat's true. I did this also so I wouldn't be deprived. I try not to deprive myself of anything I want. I believe in moderation. It's just so hard when no matter what you do youre still hungry. @teacupnosaucer I wish I could predict when my periods are coming. Mine are so irregular I never know until I start bleeding. That's a good idea to do something that keeps my hands busy. I'll have to see what I can do. I try very hard not to have things in the house that are not good for me. The problem is I live with other people and feel like I can't police what they eat It can be hard...and frustrating. It is pretty hard to decipher whether it is head hunger or actual hunger sometimes. I am trying very hard to not give into all hunger but maybe I should give into some. Maybe my body is telling me it needs more... @hardwork&dedication Maybe...I am fatigued most of the time lately. I have had a lowgrade fever every day for over 4 weeks. It's taking it out of me. I feel like I get hungrier when I just rest though. -

Periods and food
Dashofpixiedust8 replied to Dashofpixiedust8's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
@Ms. Brightside It's so hard! I did put a call into my nutritionist this morning and am just waiting for a call back about something else so I'll ask her about this too. @Introversion I know! It's so annoying! I have not tried pork skins, maybe I'll look for those. I mostly just crave food in general which is hard. I'm just hungry hungry hungry! I'm trying to just track everything and force myself to stay as close to my calorie goal of 1200 as possible. It's harder on these days than any other though -
It's odd that it happens before eating in addition to after. If it was only after eating and drinking I would say definitely call you surgeon. Is it all the time or just around meal and drinking times? It's worth a call in to the nurses line to tell them what's going on. That's what they are there for. You could also just call your PCP.

One of the things that helps me the most is carrying 1 or 2 protein bars with me at all times. Usually one I've tried already and know I like. So if I'm out and crave a candy bar or fast food I'll know I have the protein bar and eat that instead. I also carry the protein chips from quest in my car for that reason as well. I do allow myself to indulge sometimes though. I don't believe in depriving myself all the time because I know thats what causes me to binge. I buy the mini ghiradelli dark chocolate squares. They are about 35 calories each with 3 grams of sugar and 4 carbs. I am able to only eat one though, some people are not able to control their urges to only have one so you have to see what you are able to do.

Lost over 70 pounds so far but I barely feel any different?
Dashofpixiedust8 replied to krystalrose219's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I definitely can relate. I started at 540 pounds and had surgery at 480 pounds and a size 34. I don't think I TRULY felt a difference until I got to the 300's. I was able to buy smaller sizes and shop at Torrid again. Before I could only really shop at Catherine's. I was able to walk easier and breathe without added oxygen. You will notice it eventually. It takes our minds longer to catch up than our body. I STILL have trouble mentally feeling a difference and also seeing a difference sometimes because of my mentality even though I am down 250 pounds and now weight 290. It's a mental struggle that I'm trying to deal with. -
Hey, so I have had depression and bipolar almost all my life (since I was 6), almost as long as Ive been overweight (since I was 4). I'm now down 210 pounds. I'm on a few medications to control my depression and bipolar (Latuda, Trileptal, and Wellbutrin). I've been experiencing a bunch of manic and depressive episodes recently. Has anyone experienced an increase in swings after weight loss? I do have a call in to my doctor but he probably won't get back to me until late tomorrow. I was just curious if this happened to anyone else or if I'm just crazy. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Bipolar swings after weight loss
Dashofpixiedust8 replied to Dashofpixiedust8's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
@Juni7578 My weight loss really affected my depression and bipolar. My doctor said it was from the excess of hormones being released during weight loss messing with the effectiveness of my meds. I am now stable again about 11 months out. It is worth it in the end but it is a huge struggle in the beginning. I would call back your doctor and tell them you CAN NOT wait and need to see a doctor sooner, it is not your fault they rescheduled and you should not have to suffer because they had an issue. -
Dr. Nowzaradan guidelines-very confused!!!
Dashofpixiedust8 replied to mi75's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I also recommend meeting with a nutritionist. Maybe call your surgeons office? I know my surgeon's office has a nutrition line that will call you back if you have questions. I would trust their advice over a reality show. -
I do not do well after surgery but I was still in the hospital 4 days post op. I was in the hospital 5 nights after surgery even though you usually stay 1-2. I also had a lot of pain for 3 weeks after surgery and was on dilaudid that whole time. I am not the typical case though.

New clothes and shopping in standard size stores
Dashofpixiedust8 replied to hmm33502's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
You look amazing!! I definitely have that problem and I'm not even in regular clothes yet. I still have the huge body mentality. I started at 540 pounds and couldn't fit most places. Not in chairs, booths, through crowds or some doorways. I look at these items and think "I will never make it through there" But now at 290 pounds I make it through pretty easily. I went from a size 36/38 to a size 18/20 top and 22 bottom. My bottoms are probably even smaller though but I have a very large hanging skin there. I am having plastic surgery June 5th to have it removed though! I am so excited but also very nervous. I can't wait to be able to shop in regular stores!! -
Calories at 1-2 weeks post-op
Dashofpixiedust8 replied to Lizzle's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
1-2 weeks out from surgery My recommended goal was 400-600 calories a day. Make sure to ask your surgeon/nutritionist though what they are recommending for you because each doctor seems to have a different goal. Protein is the most important thing to focus on right now. -

The time pizza almost killed me!
Dashofpixiedust8 replied to lessie's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I am almost a year out and have definitely had this experience. I have overate twice in the past year and both times felt so terrible I forced myself to throw up so it would stop. Then I felt immediately better. It is definitely not fun! -
I waited 6 months after surgery per my surgeon's recommendations. Your stomach is still healing 4 weeks out and the alcohol will irritate your stomach. Also you will get tipsy much faster after surgery so when you do try alcohol for the first time please make sure you are not going to drive.

Thirsty? Tired? Hungary? The struggle continues.....
Dashofpixiedust8 replied to chuswysly's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I find it helps to just start with trying something to drink before trying food. Then if I'm satiated it was just thirst. It is important to journal your food to keep track of how many calories and how much protein your are getting in each day. If you track your food you will know if you haven't eaten enough or are eating too much. It can be hard to determine whether it's actual hunger or just head hunger but if you just plan your meals out and eat food on a schedule you will know know you have eaten enough and it isn't true hunger. -
How bad is the nausea? Is it mild or severe? Did your surgeon prescribe you any anti nausea meds? Mild nausea is common but if it is severe you need to call your surgeon.
