What are you looking forward to?
Tara1992 replied to hollybower's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I look forward to alleviating my low back pain! Also, I want to feel comfortable going out in public with my friends and not feel like outsiders see me as the "fat girl" who hangs out with the pretty girls. Sent from my SM-G900T using the BariatricPal App -
Sigh. I can't "go" and it's getting to be a problem. Please Help.

Magnesium is a natural laxative, prune juice, and there's always an enema if you're feeling really bound. Sounds awful but it's almost instant relief! GL!!! Sent from my SM-G900T using the BariatricPal App -
That's great! How long were you in the hospital and what was the most uncomfortable part? Sent from my SM-G900T using the BariatricPal App

Had my first appt!
Tara1992 replied to FindingMyself13's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I saw the surgeon then h told me all my requirements to getting approved.I had, 3 Nutrition meetings, 3 bariatric info session meetings, and one psych eval. Once I finished those I saw the surgeon, insurance approved it, then saw the surgeon again to get the surgery date. After getting the surgery date, The nurse set me up with all my pre op testing. (There's a lot) Sent from my SM-G900T using the BariatricPal App -
Hey all I'm new to this support group but I'm hoping I can find some stress relief here. I haven't gotten approved yet through my insurance. My surgeon told me that my BMI is too low... 37... And he'll need to convince them. I have PCOS and a couple other medical issues so he really thinks I should get the surgery. Also, I've worked so hard to lose the pre-surgery weight (33lbs) and now I feel like I screwed myself. Has anyone else been in this situation and how did it turn out? Ok so I am going to get my surgery date this morning (yayyyy) and all I can think about is the recovery time. I don't want to miss that much work. I am a social worker and being away from my clients for 3 weeks.... Just scares me. But I do work an office job! I know everyone is different! But for shytes and giggles, I'd like to know how long post op it took everyone to get back to work?? Sent from my SM-G900T using the BariatricPal App

Awesome!! I was doing home based behavior mods when I live in RI and I moved to NJ and have yet to find a company I like as much as the one in RI so right now I'm working with Homeless Vets in a transitional program. Granted I'm up and down 450 times a day, I do work in the office lol. Thanks for the cramp advice though, I thought sitting would be easier, but maybe being slightly more active will be better. I really appreciate it! Sent from my SM-G900T using the BariatricPal App

Surgeon accidentally cutting the liver?
Tara1992 replied to Rainy Days's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was going to ask if anyone knew if this pre op diet was a BMI stipulation. My Dr told me pre op diet is not required. It is reccomended so I'm going to do it. But I am also under 40 BMI so idk if that's why he's not as strict? Sent from my SM-G900T using the BariatricPal App -
Had my first appt!
Tara1992 replied to FindingMyself13's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My psych eval was more like a convo. I was supppppper nervous too. I thought the Dr would for sure think I was nuts and not qualified lol. I just acted very cool and collected. They ask your reasons for wanting the surgery. They ask how long it took you to gain the weight. They ask what diets you've tried. They ask about your bad eating habits ( someone told me to NOT tell them you stress eat because it could disqualify you). And they ask about your support system at home. Then they send the eval to the insurance and to the surgeon. Sent from my SM-G900T using the BariatricPal App -
Only doing 1 week of pre-op liver diet
Tara1992 replied to bini120's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I haven't had the surgery yet, but my sergeon said the liver diet is not required for me. It basically just makes the surgery easier for the Dr because it shrinks the liver in order to have easier access to the stomach. I don't think it will stop you from getting sx by only doing it a week if that's what your Dr reccomended. Sent from my SM-G900T using the BariatricPal App -

You are one of the lucky ones to have had a great doctor who was on your side:) Some programs are so strict about the at least 40 bmi if no comorbidities. Sent from my SM-G925T using the BariatricPal App I do think my doctor is great. I cried in his office the first consult because talking about my weight is really hard for me and he comforted me and reassured me I'd be healthy again. Also, I do have PCOS, 4 herniated discs, and I was pre- diabetic at the time of my blood work. I think by the time I got around to dealing with my weigh and getting sleeved, my insurance was like "yeah sure, if it'll stop her from going to all these other doctors all the time." Hahaha but I did get a little lucky! I was extremely nervous of getting denied. Sent from my SM-G900T using the BariatricPal App So how far out are you and what is a critical word of advice you could give? Sent from my SM-N920V using the BariatricPal App I am actually going to my doctor tomorrow to get my surgery date. The far a word of advice would be to FOLLOW YOUR DOCTORS RULES. I am very compliant and didn't miss one month / one appointment for my pre surgery requirements. At times it is really hard, but I truly believe the pre surgery requirements will help me know better how to treat my body post op. Sent from my SM-G900T using the BariatricPal App -

I haven't had surgery yet, but I've seen threads on the forum where vsg patients also have those symptoms. It seems to be the release of hormones from fat shrinking. I've read that fat stores hormones so when losing weight, generally people become emotional and hormonal. This is especially true for wls because the weight is coming off so rapidly. 6 month preop requirements
Tara1992 replied to tholbert08's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My starting weight was below 40 by .3 and then I was at 37 bmi two months later and I was just approved for surgery. Seems that if you are compliant and following all procedures, then insurance will approve you. My Dr. was nervous that I would be declined due to bmi but he said he would most likely just talk to the insurance on the phone and they would approve it. My first reaction when my mom told me about this today: "You're joking" My second reaction after she told me she wasn't joking: "There are starving people in this world and we are THROWING more food away than we already do now..." I don't know how this promotes a healthy lifestyle in any way shape or form. It is actually a monitored eating disorder. I like to keep an open mind, but on this one I'm going to need some convincing. Sent from my SM-G900T using the BariatricPal App

Pre op food journal?
Tara1992 replied to AudreyDarling's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Eat good carbs such as broccoli and cauliflower. Vegetables are good to eat, I always make more veggies than anything else. I found this picture on Pinterest the other day that might help. Sent from my SM-G900T using the BariatricPal App -
I have PCOS as well and I hear ya on the period angonies! I didn't get mine for 8 months, then on my college graduation day (when my whole family/friends traveled 6 hours to see me graduate) I got bombarded by my period. I lost so much blood in a matter of minutes, I almost passed out. My drs wanted me to get the surgery for multiple reasons, fertility rate goes up after surgery and a lot of symptoms such as cysts subside with weight loss. PCOS s also a vicious cycle, you gain weight because you have it, you can't lose weight because you have it, but to get rid of it you need to lose weight. WLS is very successful for people with PCOS! So I would probably hold off on any major decisions until after the surgery and see if you feel/ get better first! Sent from my SM-G900T using the BariatricPal App

Told my Mother I was having surgery and her repsonse is.........
Tara1992 replied to reachbree's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ultimately this is YOUR life and not theirs! People who don't need WLS or can control their eating and weight easily, seem to think it's scam, the easy way out, or unhealthy. But they are uneducated on the details and benefits. I reccomend having a little family detox, clear your head and figure out what's best for you!! Keep us updated! Many people are here to support you! Sent from my SM-G900T using the BariatricPal App -
