Agree with others saying you may find once you're able to have that, you realize you really don't want it anymore. Was out doing some errands (tis the season!) running around yesterday, didn't feel like cooking. My teenage son with me asked if we could bring home Arby's, so we did. I only ate the beef from a beef and cheddar sandwich, skipped the bun. I didn't order fries for myself, I never do anymore. Now before surgery, I loved Arby's curly fries. I took ONE of my son's....and realized it tasted gross to me....like I had let lard melt in my mouth, yuck. So you may surprise yourself with what you really crave after surgery. 3.5 Weeks Away From Surgery
SharBear617 replied to FindingCarrie's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Very excited for you! It was about a 4 month process for me from first visit with surgeon to surgery day, and even with that amount of time, after surgery I still couldn't believe that it was actually done and I was on "the other side." Don't be surprised if you feel that way after surgery, it can be a bit of a mind <insert f bomb here>. Best of luck! Sent from my SM-G928V using the BariatricPal App -

So, went yesterday to see the NP/Dietician at my surgeon's office for my 6 month post op follow up. Was happy they were thrilled with my progress so far (LOTS of inches off measurements, down 67 lbs since first visit Feb 2016, down 52 lbs since June surgery), but we had never talked before about what their post op weight goal for me was, and what my goal weight was. My "say what?!" moment, was when I was told they had a goal weight for me of 145-160 lbs. My goal weight for me? 125-130 lbs. Bit of a difference. I'm 5'2", and have probably a medium frame, so I don't think my goal weight is really off. And before I get feedback, I know for many it's "not about a number on the scale." Yes, I know, and it isn't for me either, it's going to be about how I feel, how fit I am, energy levels, etc, so my "number" may change. But the goal weight in my opinion is to keep me accountable, so that when I reach maintenance, I can answer to the scale. What kind of got me though, was the Dietician's response, when I said what goal I had for myself, was in so many words, not gonna happen. Well sorry, but I didn't go through a surgery and re-route my intestines to reach a weight that would still put my BMI in the "overweight" category. I know, even though we have to live and die by BMI to qualify for surgery, general concensus is it's a load of crap that doesn't factor everything in....but still. So, I'm curious to hear of anyone else who felt the surgeon's/NP/Dietician's expectations for you were a little lower than what you expect of your results? BTW, am feeling AMAZING already, have ZERO regrets about surgery, and have welcomed the changes it has forced me to accept and incorporate into my lifestyle. AND, loved seeing the comparison photos they took of me on my first visit (although really difficult to look at) and the pics yesterday, made me very proud! Feeling tired
SharBear617 replied to Trinigiri9591's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Very normal. I went back to work after 2 weeks, which definately increased my fatigue, but it was a good 8 weeks or so post op before the fatigue was getting better, but it eventually did. Keep up with your vitamins/supplements, and eventually you'll have energy to burn! Hang in there Sent from my SM-G928V using the BariatricPal App -
8 days post op NO stomach tone
SharBear617 replied to Amy'ssleeve's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Absolutely, took me about 2 weeks after surgery before I could sleep on my side because of the tugging sensation. I started using a thin pillow to support my belly, and it helped. Continued that until I had lost enough belly weight that I no longer had that tugging feeling anymore. Good luck! Sent from my SM-G928V using the BariatricPal App -

@Who's There....very intersting theory about the bones because that is true; you can tell how much weight a person bears based on the thickness of the bones. It is also why people (mostly women) who have been very thin their whole lives develop osteoporosis at a much higher rate than women who have carried additional pounds. Definately food for thought (no pun intended, lol). And same here, main goal is feeling great and also doing what I can to control my weight, to hopefully live a much longer and happier life. Thanks! Are you taking any kind of acid reducer, like a proton pump inhibitor (protonix, omeprazole, etc)? I went off mine briefly about 5 weeks ago (only for about 3 days) started getting some tummy pain kind of like what you describe, and a couple days after I resumed that med, it went away. The emotional roller coaster

Agree you're still very fresh out to worry too much about getting all the Protein in, just do the best you can and focus on fluids, preferably with some type of protein to combine them. You may also want to try some protein powders, like the unjury, comes in various flavors. The chicken flavor is very tasty and comforting on a fresh post op tummy, and it's 20 or 21gr of protein. That combined with 1 Premiere Protein shake (30 grams of protein) would get you almost to 60 with just those 2 things. And I agree with suzzzzz....there isn't too much you can do to avoid hair loss, you either get it or you don't, and odds are higher you'll experience hair loss to some degree regardless of getting in all protein/vitamins or not. Be well! Sent from my SM-G928V using the BariatricPal App

The emotional roller coaster
SharBear617 replied to doxaholic's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
If you aren't exercising, start. If you are getting some exercise in, do more if you can. Getting those endorphins going with exercise can help combat the other rush of hormones, and help stabilize mood. Sent from my SM-G928V using the BariatricPal App -
Getting sick surgery tomorrow!
SharBear617 replied to iamOpalicious's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Probably shouldn't delay it. No fever is a good thing. Good luck! Sent from my SM-G928V using the BariatricPal App -
It is probably due to the way you are positioned during surgery; sometimes it can cause some nerve pinching. Try a heating pad and if you can get someone to massage it for you that may help too. Sent from my SM-G928V using the BariatricPal App

Todays small victory
SharBear617 replied to beautyandthesleeve's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
That is no small victory, but a BIG one, and one you should be very proud of! I'm 6 months post rny, and I can tell you it is largely mental work after surgery, so the fact you already recognize that and are reworking your relationship with food now, is an awesome sign for how you'll do after surgery. Find many ways to be kind to yourself when hitting tough times. Hope things get better for you very soon, and stay positive. Sent from my SM-G928V using the BariatricPal App
