  1. I do get those comments, mostly from people I work with because unlike family and friends who've known me my whole life, they've never seen me at a more normal weight (even though I still have another 30 lbs before hitting "normal" bmi) so I get I look like I'm melting away to them. I also get when people say those things they usually are out of concern, it's just interesting to me that when we're overweight and our health is in much more danger, they keep their concern to themselves because it would be considered rude for them to say, "hey, you know you're getting fat and you don't look healthy, are you going to start losing some weight?" Feel sick 10weeks after bypass

When I was between 7-12 weeks out from GB, had a pretty rough time with keeping things down, but it wasn't all the time which became confusing. Sometimes I'd be fine, other times not so much. During that time for me the usual trigger was foods that were too hot that I'd swallow too fast, eating too fast, or meats that were too dry. They'd get stuck, cause some pain, I'd cough/throw them up, and feel better. After about week 11 or 12, problem stopped, I learned to slow down and to stay away from dry meat/food. ***Soups after surgery***

Egg drop soup and wonton are very good. Strained creamed Soups are good too, I found that the heavier cream soups sat better in my stomach. Strained cream of celery, potato, and chicken. Also enjoyed split pea and roasted bell pepper. Sent from my SM-G928V using the BariatricPal App

    Excel graph of weight loss

Yep, I like the visual graph too...mine looks like a set of steps, can see where I have stalls and then start dropping again. My body's been fairly consistent with that. Sent from my SM-G928V using the BariatricPal App

    I heard that!

So, I'm 7 months post op and down 73 lbs....I'm sitting in my office at work the other day, and 2 people I know from another department walk by my door, and the one says to the other, "she's lost a LOT of weight," almost in a kind of I-wonder-if-she's-sick tone.... I felt like saying, "They didn't surgically remove my ears, I can hear you!" Not sure why it made me feel weird, but I did kind of chuckle about it later. Anyone else have a similar story?? I'd appreciate hearing it, thanks! Sent from my SM-G928V using the BariatricPal App

    I heard that!

Thanks everyone for responding...and very good points about people being concerned. I really do get that, as I'm sure I might have the same response. I have told some of my coworkers, even, even before my surgery because I was going to be off 2 weeks, and I knew some of my close coworkers, who know that I do not take 2 weeks off work even though I could, would worry. It was just interesting because I've literally shocked some people with how different I look, but so many people have commented that aside from the weight difference, that I look younger and much healthier (music to this 46 year old lady's ears!), so it's just odd that people would worry I am sick. But, I'd rather have the occassional odd reaction to my weight loss and keep right on enjoying this new life! Plus, eventually I'll reach my goal (only about 33 lbs away now!) and once people get used to the new me....the comments will stop, and I'll just be me again. WLS is the easy way out

Sorry, but one more thing....I gave birth to my daughter the "natural" way without surgery, but had my twin sons via c-section....does that mean my sons don't really count, cause they were born via surgery?! Sent from my SM-G928V using the BariatricPal App

WLS is the easy way out

My annoyance about that editor saying that is almost palpable right now, wow! Agree with many others who've said it doesn't matter how you lose weight as long as you do and maintain it. Ugh....and even if it is "easier" with surgery (which I strongly feel it has not been), so the frick what! Even Water, the most powerful force in nature will always follow the path of least resistance....jeez!! Sent from my SM-G928V using the BariatricPal App

    Calcium Citrate Question

I also buy a store brand calcium citrate pills (Kroger), they are also horse pills, but they are scored in the center so I just cut them in half (I would not have had a problem with them before surgery, but do now). Can't recall exactly how much they are, I want to say around $16 or so for a big bottle, and I try to catch them when the store puts them on sale as a buy one get one free for an even better deal. Finding New “Happy Buttons”

Thanks so much for this post....really enjoyed it! Have been working hard on establishing a new relationship with food, and it's definately easier when I fill the void with new pleasures, new "happy buttons." Thank you for making it make sense. Sent from my SM-G928V using the BariatricPal App

    Getting Discouraged

Greek yogurt, peanuts/seeds, Peanut Butter or powder, boiled egg, black beans/refried Beans. You're getting in a good amount of exercise, you may need to up your daily calorie intake....your body thinks it's starving, slows down burning calories, so give it some fuel and it will release the weight. This is diabolical!

Aahhh yes....the quiet game, played with my three when they were young. I found it worked better WITH the duct tape over their mouths though.... Just kidding!!! I may have contemplated it somedays, but never did Sent from my SM-G928V using the BariatricPal App

How do you view overweight people now that your thin?

One more thing: I also prevent myself from judging, by realizing I have no idea where that larger person is in their journey....they may have just lost 100, 200, or 300 lbs, and are thrilled with their success and proud of their hard work....who the hell am I to place a judgment on that! How do you view overweight people now that your thin?

Personally, I have been guilty of not necessarily judging people based on their size, but on making size comparisons, as in when looking at someone larger than me, "well I'm fat, but I'm not THAT fat." I'm working now on halting such comparisons, mostly because someone else's size is not my business.....MY size is my business. I feel that people who lose weight and are extremely judgmental of heavy people do so out of fear knowing they could slip into old habits and go back to that themselves. And I agree with another poster, who said most likely they have many unresolved issues about how they felt about themselves when bigger. Sent from my SM-G928V using the BariatricPal App

    Sleevers show me your.......

Take a look also at YouTubers who had wls....they do a lot of videos showing grocery hauls, what they eat in a typical day, etc. Most of them are pretty responsible by admitting up front it's what works for them, but may not be for everyone. I got a lot of good ideas from that pre and post op. 21. Agree this is a great, thought-provoking question. I think it's probably best answered by the vets who are more then 12-18 months out. I'm only just past 6 months out from rny, so yes, it still consumes a lot of my thought process, but I'm also using this time to continue developing the good habits I've started (portion control ALWAYS, saying no to the crap food, teeny tiny indulgences once in awhile, making time for exercise a priority, etc) so that as stated by some others, they just become your routine, and not an obsession. I have vowed though, that no matter what I will NEVER forget a)that I went through a surgery to gain my life back again and b)why I went through that surgery (and ultimately didn't just put myself through it, but my family as well, as I know they had worry about it/me too). Last thought: I've learned in life there truly is no such thing as normal, at least not a stagnate, permanent normal. "Normal" is a Fluid state, ever changing whether we initiate those changes or they are thrust upon us by circumstance. So instead of thinking you're obsessing, consider that you're simply developing your "normal" and allowing both it and you to change together. Sent from my SM-G928V using the BariatricPal App

    Feeling so sad

Good start by posting to vent your feelings. But, you're not truly alone...you have you, your body, your mind, and your spirit, lots of company! Not making light of your feelings of sadness from what sounds like a result of some alienation you're going through, just trying to put a positive spin for you to consider. But it is true; all of those parts of ourselves look out for each other, nurture each other, protect each other, etc. Take some of this time while you're physically healing from your surgery to focus on how you can "feed" each one of those aspects of "self" so that you have energy for when you are feeling better to invest time and effort in to establishing more support systems in your future. I am wishing you calm, peace and strength to get through this sadness, and come out more whole on the other side. Are there any support group meetings through your surgeon's office you can get to? Many there would understand and identify with what you are dealing with. Also, maybe reach out to your friend that you did tell; some people, even though they care, still need to hear their help is needed and appreciated. Best of luck, and stay strong and positive. 24. Advice: ignore those aholes! They need to grow up; you've done this as professionally as possible, your boss is ok with it, so the co-worker and the part-timer will get over it, and if they don't, their prob not yours. And as far as the whiny part timer not being able to spend Feb at the beach....just think in your head "first-world problems babe." Sent from my SM-G928V using the BariatricPal App

My body continues to betray me....

@msujester...yes, you typically are a very positive person (from your postings on here), so yes, given what you're going through and how far you've been, you are certainly entitled to a vent! Sorry you're dealing with that and I hope you are feeling better soon so hang in there (not literally though....don't want any more injuries!) Take care.
