Pre-op diet. Need a buddie
evesta replied to Nikkah_Mineolalove's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have not been doing well on my preop diet but I have a week left and am recommitting today. Good luck everyone! -
That is like the number one no no from my nutritionist and doctor. I was banded and honestly you definitely paid the price drinking carbonation. I would get stomach cramps so bad from gas. That made it easier to avoid and my main drink became tea.

How did you handle changing clothing size ?
evesta replied to Elizabethtash's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have surgery next week but luckily? have three sizes in my wardrobe from yo yoing regularly. I'm a stay at home mom so it's easier not having to buy smwirk clothes right now. I went and bought some yoga leggings and big shirts but a size down so they'll fit longer. I wanted something stretchy and soft for healing. I also a comfortable pair of slip on sneakers. No bending but I can walk well in them. Besides that I'll probably shop cheap as needed till I reach a smaller size. -
I'm self pay and things happened pretty quick for me. My doctor required two visits with a nutritionist and two with a trainer. The first appointments were for how things will be when I'm back to "normal" and the others were for preop, surgery and postop. I already had a sleep study years ago and because I had a psych evaluation for lap band so that was waived. So as soon as I got those done I scheduled with surgery 13 days out on April 17th. I get a physical Tuesday and have my surgeon visit Thursday and I'm ready to roll. So excited:)

I've had two csections, lap band and gallbladder out. I will have a tummy tuck and breast lift at some point. I too have an apron and carry most of my weight in the middle. Luckily my legs and arms are smaller so that skin won't be as much of an issue. I have no idea how I'll pay but I'll find a way if someone does payment plan. Good luck everyone!

Self pay complications - any insurance to buy ?
evesta replied to Happynew's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm a self pay but luckily my doctor has an insurance policy for complications and it is like $60!? Good deal but my sleeve is like $17000 for everything. Good luck! -
If you're craving pizza find a good cauliflower crust pizza recipe. The key is to get the Water out of it using cheese cloth. It smells horrible making it but once the crust is made it is so good. Top it how you want. I do basil, mozzarella and tomato and a BBQ chicken. My kids love helping too.

Good luck to you too! I've been getting the run around and not knowing when I was having surgery and they called today and I was surprised to get in early but I'll take it. My parents are helping with the kids as my husband is working. They will be gone on a cruise so I think getting it done before so I had support was important. I have a great doctor and nurses:)

Mine is two weeks of protein shakes and a small dinner of protein, veggies and a bit of carbs. I was told losing about ten pounds would be good to shrink my liver but they will do it even if I don't lose that much. I was told today I'm getting surgery on April 17th which is less than two weeks. I start fasting tomorrow!

What to bring to hospital?
evesta replied to lhvpac's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Lol, love it! I'm bringing my glasses, socks, carmex, lotion, face wipes, phone, charger, fit bit, pony tail bands, my meds, underwear, comfy going home clothes, sports bra and slip on shoes. I'll bring pjs too but some hospitals make you stay in the gown so I usually just do that. -
To me not having surgery is the scary part. My back, my knees, sleep apnea and high blood pressure. Not being there for my kids. I'm in pain daily. I've had two csections but not like a cross incision my first my epi wore off and I felt everything. I've had a lap band that will have similar incisions and it is way easier than my csections. They really are small incisions even compared to a regular csection. There will be soreness but not like you remember. I had gall bladder surgery too and lap band was easier. Walk early and take your meds and you will do great. Good luck!!!

Where is everyone from City & State
evesta replied to TammyLee66's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm in southeast Nebraska -
Awesome!!! I got mine today too. It's starting to feel real:)

I think it depends on the doctor and how much weight you have to lose. I think it really depends on your preop physical too and your health in general. My brother totally blew his preop diet when getting the lap band but he was still approved. Funny thing was he did awesome banded and was like their poster boy for weight loss. I've personally gained probably about five pounds but I can lose that in a few days on a liquid fast. Good luck!

What to expect after surgery
evesta replied to chapellejoe84's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It is very individual but abdomen pain and gas are the main culprits. Honestly I'm usually fine after surgery for about 24 hours due to pain meds. I found there was more pain when you go home but it isn't anything unmanageable. I like to sleep on the couch the first few days or a recliner works great. My feeling about surgery is if they don't stick any needles in my back I'm good. Lol Thats my one phobia. Just walk early and often. I'm starting to get nervous too but I think it's more excitement. Good luck!!! -
How many weeks to request off
evesta replied to MelissaRose24's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When I had my lap band which was also laparoscopic I only took a week off but I had an office job. Luckily I'm a stay at home mom at the moment but have had several abdominal surgeries and the first few days to a week are definitely the hardest. I think the key is to walk early, take your pain meds and rest when you can. If you don't get nausea that will definitely make healing go better because straining with cut abdominal muscles is horrible. Everyone is different though. Good luck! -
I got my surgery date today, April 17th. So excited!

I finally got the call today and am having surgery on April 17th! It is starting to get real now and my excitement is kicking in. I'm having my lap band out too. Starting my pre-op diet but less than two weeks away. Anyone else having revision from lap band to sleeve?

how many cc's for restriction 14cc
evesta replied to Alfie's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I got my third fill, bringing me to 9cc about three weeks ago. The first week I was so tight I would pb on pudding, shakes or applesauce. I stayed on liquids for a few days and then moved to mushies. Just take it slow and it will get better. I ate a spaghetti and meatballs last night! Not very much, less then a 1/4 cup but it felt like a feast to me! Also, try to eat standing up, it really helps. -
2nd fill: works daytime, but not at night
evesta replied to Maire's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I had the exact same issue after my second fill too. Good restriction all day but by evening the band felt almost non-existent. My doctor wanted me to wait a few weeks before I got another fill. They suggested I add a high Protein late afternoon snack, which did help. After a few weeks restriction was becoming less during the rest of the day and I finally got another fill. Now I can definately eat more comfortably during the evening but get full very quickly. -
tenacious tens-what are your intolerable foods so far
evesta replied to bandster_1007's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Before my last fill I could eat almost anything if I went slow. The only problem food I had was rice(my first and worst PB). Now I'm so tight I usually don't eat much before noon. I start with hot coffee or tea. If its a loose day I might try part of a Protein bar, or tiny bit of eggs or cheese. Ground beef and chicken in a can are all the meats I have been able to eat. Bread and tortillas are also a no go. -
I'm new, well sort of. I've actually been reading the boards since this summer but decided I need more support in this journey so decided to start posting! I was banded on Oct. 31st. I haven't had much restriction till my 3rd fill, which was about 3 weeks ago. 9cc in a 14cc band, I think. The first week I was super tight, could only drink liquids. I lost 10 pounds that week and the following 2 weeks the inches and weight have been coming off! I am down 32 pounds since pre-op. I tend to lose small during the month, a pound here or there, and then a bigger drop after my period. Real restriction took some getting use to but I'm finally getting it. All of you that don't have restriction yet, keep going... it will come! Everyone is doing great!
