    Any Pittsburgh people?

I'm about 20 miles north of Pittsburgh! Hello!
  3. I drove after a week ( I was allowed once off pain meds but waited a couple more days... I slept in a recliner for over two weeks. Maybe 3. Everytime I laid in bed I hurt.

    Pain and bm

Senokot-s. That's what my surgeons office recommended

    No pre-op liquid diet ordered?

Mine didn't require one; I counted my blessings and tried to eat lightly for the previous month before surgery.

    Doctor set goal?

My surgeon said nice the same....when he broke it down he said it was great progress.... That being said, my group does not set goals. He did tell me what he thinks I might lose by next visit and after his first impression in 3 months we're right I do not doubt him. I have a 20 pound window I'll be happy with. I'm almost halfway there

    Blood thinner shots

I did. 10 days...you honestly just suck it up and pinch the skin and get it in there. Seriously, just thinking of the possibility of blood clots was enough to ensure compliance.
  8. I let a Diet Pepsi go flat and tried it. It wasn't good. Last week I took the tiniest sip of a diet Mountain Dew and all I could taste was salt. Iced tea and flavored water it is!

    Drinking from a straw

I made a command decision about 5 weeks postop that if I was going to get my water in I'd have to use a straw. No problems drinking my decaf cup of coffee in the am and a 52 ounce unsweetened tea thru the day.
  11. The very couple times I've craved the salads I've gotten I can do 3 bites max. Today's salad is in the fridge. I won't crave it again for weeks. It doesn't feel great in my stomach either

    Ridiculous question but...

I just didn't receive the sacrament. But to be fair, I work at the church, so both priests knew. (This was after surgery.). They usually would give me a blessing after mass when I'd be back in the sacristy. If you want they will anoint you prior to your surgery.

    Ideas on the liquid

About a month before my surgery I was already replacing a meal (lunch) with a protein shake. I didn't have a preop diet, other than the usual day before liquids and fasting after midnight

    Portion control.

I either measure everything, or know by the size bowl that I used to measure into (for instance cottage cheese fits nicely in half of one of my travel containers.) interestingly enough I have bowls from the 1950s that fit the exact amounts of many of the foods I eat. I noticed at one of my stalls that I wasn't eating enough calories.
  15. Way to go! I was at my dr Thursday for the same checkup. I saw his smile and things just looked up for me

    No more insulin!

Great job ditching the insulin. I'm 3 1/2 months out. Saw endocrinologist today...my a1c is down less than a point. Doctor is concerned my pancreas isn't doing it's job. Giving it more time to see if something kicks. I can honestly say that I was disappointed. One of the most important reasons I had this surgery was to ditch insulin - and he's afraid to halt my weight loss efforts with a bigger dose of insulin
  17. The stalls aren't as bad as they look to you...I swear I was stalled for 3 weeks and then 2 weeks another time but in 16 weeks I've lost 60 pounds

    Cracker Barrel

I hit mine almost every day and generally keep my carbs below 40 a day. I got caught in a situation where I dropped my protein shake and had to eat.
  19. I had it this weekend as well and the vomiting was horrendous. Nothing to come up and my muscles around my stomach were spawning and felt like nausea. Went to ER for fluids Friday and got Zofran for nausea. Today is my first day of normal and being out of bed

    Does God hate me?

You may have gained weight in the hospital. I gained 3 pounds from admitting to just as soon as I got home.
  21. The potassium: All I can say is do your best to take those pills in whatever way you can because I've had IV potassium and it kills your veins....seriously burns like you're on fire, and now I can't have blood tests in my right arm. Not trying to scare you...but I've been there, done that, and it was a nightmare. 4 years ago and I can still feel the pain

    Cracker Barrel

I bought a sampler a month ago ... 2 1/2 months out. Had a couple bites of chic/dumplings, a bite of meatloaf and green beans. Took the rest home and divided into not 3, not 4, but 5 additional meals and that was after giving the meatloaf to my kid.

    New here.

You can always talk here. I have had a good adjustment after my surgery in October and thanks to a brutal flu this weekend I am down 60 pounds! You will find that the not so great feeling postop time is a distant memory. And keep in mind....your body will love you back when you do this.
  24. My sister wasn't a fan. 51 pounds in 3 months changed her mind. But she wasn't openly rude and was very good when I had the surgery. I had a couple male friends that were against it. But one is now considering going thru the process. It comes down to how accepting you yourself are about your decision. Once I decided, I didn't argue with anyone who didn't agree. I just nodded politely and changed the subject. I'm already feeling healthier Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
