  7. Hi I am starting to get organized for my surgery on June 23. There was a list someone had posted, of things to have on hand for post op. I can't seem to find it. Does anyone know where it is? I remember they suggested gas-ex strips and that's where my memory stops! Can anyone help me? Thanks!

    In memory of Denyell

Mr. Hooper Words cannot express the heaviness we all feel in hearing of your wife's passing. I am sure we will all think of her often, and when we do those of us who beleive that there is a living God will also lift you and your family up in prayer. By posting Denyell's story here you may very well have saved the lives of others who would otherwise have negleted to heed their own warning signs. I know I will now be extra cautious. Those of us that have had to weigh the dangers of this surgery with the reward of gaining our life back understand that Denyell took the risk in the hopes of having a future of health and joy with her family. May you lean on God for your comfort at this time, for if you do you will surely be comforted. Thank you and God be with you and your boys. Debbie B.

Thoughts after 3 months with my Band

Sadie Thank you for sharing. When I pray about it and dream about it, that's how I hope it will be. What a blessing indeed!
  13. Hi all, I have not worked outside the home in several years. I have always enjoyed being able to just be there for my husband and family, so it has never bothered me that I didn't have a career. My husband (of 36 years) is looking to retire from the grocery business, and we are in the process of starting a real estate based business together. We have a daughter who has blessed us with two awsome grandaughters aged 10 and 7, and we are currently eagerly awaiting the birth of our first grandson in aprox. 2 weeks! :crying: We live in the central valley of California with our beloved pets, Dutchess Weeniefred Tiara (dauchound), Scooby No! Velvetrears (yellow lab), and Little Bit our Tabby cat. I have steadily gained weight over the last 20 years or so, and to use a quote from yessindeed, I'm glad we can all "band together"! So let's go guys, "Let's Git 'Er Done!"

    Getting banded June 23!

Hello to all U Jazzy Junes! Hope everyone is doing well as we prepare for our upcoming transformations. Now you two Maria's, (Mariamomof2 & Maria-mom of 2 ) About the fatty liver, it is definitely reversed by lowering your fat intake and losing weight, but gardengrl, I would make sure to mention it to my surgeon. I am still laughing about gardengrl's remark about her husband having food on his brain, but not on his body. Our group is getting sooo Big! We will have such great support from each other!

Bump in the Road! Prayers needed!

That's great news Cathy. "God is good...All the time"

Bump in the Road! Prayers needed!

Cathy (finally spelled your name right!) I'm sorry to hear about your recent problems. That would be scary. But I know you know as a person who believes in prayer that these things always seem to happen for a good reason. It's good this happened now so they can deal with what might have been a hidden danger to you during surgery. I will remember you in prayer. I'm confident that the Lord has only good in store for you!
  18. Maria

I made you a friend contact. That way when we are talking speficily to each other it won't appear on the general board. Hope that's ok? I have been so busy with my life, there's so much going on, that I haven't had much time to focus on my surgery. 1.We (my husband and I) are starting a new business and that is just crazy. 2. My daughter is expecting her third child (a grandson!) by c-section on June 3, so I will need to drive to her house each morning and take her girls to school then stay with her until her husband gets home. I'll be doing that right up until I have my surgery. Normally I would be thrilled to be spending time with my daughter and grandchildren, but it's really causing me some stress trying to deal with all this at the same time. I am not very good at multi-tasking! How old are your children? Will you be getting support caring for them after surgery? I'm kind of getting butterflies when I think about it. I'm still sure I want to do it, but I'll be glad when it's over. did you see there's someone else having surgery on the 23? I haven't buzzed them yet. I think I'll go and welcome them. Have a great week. Talk soon. Oh yea, you go girl with those books. You can educate me after you do all that learning! I don't know if you believe in prayer, but I will be asking the Lord to be with you through this.

  19. Hi Brubear

We will be banded on the same day. I will be praying for you!

Thank you thin2bme! You were so sweet to do that. I appreciate it very much. I will pass this on to my friend.

    United Healthcare and AT&T

Thanks PRTazLUVA, I'll pass that on to my friend. This particular call center used to be a Cingular Wireless before it went to AT&T, and 6 years or so ago they did pay for WLS, then probably due to A LOT of people getting it done, they stopped paying for it. United Healthcare says it is a covered benefit, but AT&T won't pay for it??

Welcome YoungNY, leepizz, and ImGonnaLose! We have an awsome group! Full speed ahead! Sorry, I can't help you with that ticker or Jazzy June thingy, I haven't taken the time to figure it out either....
  23. Hi Sandy

Just checking in with ya. Did I tell you I got my surgery date? June 23rd! I can't wait. I keep telling myself "this is my last fat spring", "this will be my last fat summer", etc.! I get so miserable when it's hot; my feet and legs swell so bad, it's awful. Any way how are you doing? You are probably definately gonna enjoy this summer more than last year, right? I've been trying to look at some before and after pictures, but I can't find them. What am I doing wrong? Surely they haven't removed them. I even did a search and still couldn't find them. Any way, talk back at you soon.

    Getting banded June 23!

Hi Maria I had tests a few years back which found I had the fatty liver. I'm sure when you get your pre-surgery tests it would show up. You probably don't have anything to worry about though, at your age. Those cookbooks you mentioned would probably work great. Lap banders are told to focus first on protein, then on vegies when eating, as good nutrition is very important on such small portions as we will be eating. Bad things can happen such as hair loss, and even in extreme cases, death. My surgeon has done over 400 lap band procedures and only lost one patient, and that was due to mal-nutrition. So, it is very important we don't waste valuable "pouch" (name for our new little stomach's) space eating junk foods which have little or no nutritional value. Boy! Just listen to me! I am way too bossy, huh!? I'm talking to you like you are my daughter! :smile2: I know you will do great with your band because you are focusing on proper nutrition. You have a good day too!

    Getting banded June 23!

Hi Maria I have jumped through all the hoops now, except the last pre-op tests which won't be until the last few weeks before surgery. I was with the nutrtionist for a short while before I knew we were not on the same page. She seemed to have some issues with fat people. So I said what I knew she wanted to hear and turned to other sources for my nutritional education. This site is an awsome source of information. I haven't tried eating w/o drinking during my meals; I am using all my will power to stay on my current eating program. I have a fatty liver and if I don't drop a significant amount of weight (to shrink my liver) I may have to have the full open surgery instead of laproscopic. My advice? Do what the experts advise you and don't listen to what people say works for them if it is contrary to what your doctor advises. I will enjoy sharing this adventure with you!
