25 weeks post op and down 101 lbs!
PrinceVanHalen posted a topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I've done this weight loss thing way too long. Up and down. Decided to do gastric bypass on June 21st, 2016. Finally lost over 100 lbs today! Quite happy and hoping to lose at least another 30 lbs. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
gained 3lbs in 1 week HOW?
PrinceVanHalen replied to Melanie89's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This whole gastric bypass thing baffles me honestly. You don't lose weight like you normally would. It's like a whole new science and a lot of it is unexplainable. I'm close to 7 months post op and I hit a plateau for almost a month. I'd gain one, lose one, gain two, lose one, lose two, and so on. Up and down constantly. Just this past week I've now lost 3 lbs and I haven't changed anything recently to cause it. I tried changing things and nothing worked. It just happens I guess, but it'll come off and then some. Just keep doing what you're doing. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
December bypass buddies
PrinceVanHalen replied to sunnydeeliteful's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
My doctor told me to take very very small bites and chew, chew, chew. Still not the answer but it's a start. Lol I was told I could use oil, mayo, and stuff like that to help moisten the food. Any kinds of dry meat will more than likely get stuck. chicken and turkey are the worst. Forget pork chops. Lol. At least for now. Soup and chili are my favorite go to meals if I'm hungry and don't want any discomfort. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
December bypass buddies
PrinceVanHalen replied to sunnydeeliteful's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I'm almost 7 months post of and I still get the slime. The slime becomes worse if something gets stuck. It's your bodies way of helping get your food down. The pain in your chest is food going down hard and or getting stuck. It literally makes my brain hate food. I'd love a big steak, but I just know it'll be painful and more than likely get stuck. The first time I got food stuck, I thought I was going to die. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

Feel like I can eat too much
PrinceVanHalen replied to Torressl1234's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
It's really all depending on what you are having. If it's solid food like chicken, that's not really all that much. If it's something soft like Soup or chili, that's really nothing at all and is normal. Think about what we use to eat before surgery. What we're eating now is near starvation to a normal person. As for your question, yes you can reset it. You basically start over from the beginning doing liquids and soft foods. Very limited for a few weeks. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

"The last supper" syndrome?
PrinceVanHalen replied to llism's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Yes it's quite common. I did it and one of my in laws did it as well. Get it out of your system. Once you have the surgery, you can't do that anymore. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Does food getting stuck get better?
PrinceVanHalen replied to twhy48's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I'm 5 months post op and it has gotten a little better. It's weird though. I love chili and it goes down easy. So one day the same exact chili goes down like it's nothing. Then the next day it gets stuck. It's really strange how some days food gets stuck. Trust me, I hate it. It's one of the worst feelings. I eat very small bites and chew very well, yet things still get stuck. At times my wife tells me I should get my opening stretched, but I don't know. One day it's fine and the next it's not. A couple of months post op and I literally almost threw up on a daily basis. Then all of a sudden things were going down fine. I can only assume with time it'll get better? I think the whole taking pain meds and driving thing is a bit obvious. Even after pain meds, it's a bit painful. Which is why I say those bumps are brutal. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I make pizza with a cheese "crust". I've also found it more satisfying to just get a slice of pizza and eat only the toppings. Cheese, sausage, and veggies. Can't go wrong. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Gastric bypass will cure a lot of problems such as Gerd, diabetes, and high blood pressure. I had stage two hypertension and on meds. I was off my meds within two weeks after surgery. With Gastric bypass, you'll always need to take a high amount of Vitamins cause a lot isn't absorbed, including food. Sugar is not tolerable with gastric bypass, but with the sleeve it is. Which to me, if you have poor self control, the sleeve isn't the greatest idea. I know it's hard for me to control, so I'd rather have those restrictions to make me behave. You lose more weight in the long run and faster with bypass. The sleeve reminds me of a serious surgical version of a lap band. My dad has the lap band and it's not very successful. Yes, it slows you down on eating, but doesn't stop you from eating whatever you want. I wanted to lose the most weight with the faster results, along with the strict restrictions of the bypass. If I was going to go through a surgery, I'm diving in head first into this. That's what I did and I don't regret it. I'm 15 weeks post op from gastric bypass. I started at 338 lbs and I'm down to 258 lbs. That's 80 lbs in a bit over 3 months. My goal is 200 lbs. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I always chugged my Water too. That is hard to get over, but eventually it'll become easier. I started drinking from a straw after a few weeks. I never had any issues. I felt I was swallowing more air "sipping" than I was with a straw. I personally don't understand that concept people have of straws. Someone must have done something stupid. Kinda like putting "caution, coffee is hot" on coffee cups. Lol As for big gulps, I'm 15 weeks post op and I finally feel like I can take a big gulp without having any pain. Before it was always painful if I drank too much or too fast. I'm pretty sure I won't be chugging ever again, but if you think about it, that'll just stretch the stomach and none of us really want that. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Basically when it's not too painful. Those pot holes and train tracks can be brutal at first. I was driving within a couple of weeks, just be prepared for those big bumps. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

HELP me please pain
PrinceVanHalen replied to mouna's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That pain below your breast is 100% normal and yes it sucks. It will go away after a few weeks. I was on pureed foods as soon as I was discharged from the hospital. That was my surgeon though. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
I'm 8 weeks post op and I make a large iced coffee everyday. sugar free creamer and equal. Still losing weight and no problems at all. I also drink it from a straw and no problems there either. I've been drinking coffee daily since like week 3 post op. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

"Oh, don't worry. We don't need to take our your gallbladder."
PrinceVanHalen replied to debd80's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I went on my own "gastric bypass" diet two years ago and after 6 months of doing it, I lost all my weight and my gallbladder went bad. I ended up gaining all my weight back after my gallbladder was removed. Now I'm 4 weeks post op. So I guess I'm lucky mine went bad with my last diet. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
I've lost major weight before and that's one place the skin just doesn't seem to disappear. I've gained the weight back and now I got gastric bypass a few weeks ago. That skin does get in the way of things but I've always managed. I would think having a tuck just might solve that problem. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

How long between each bite?
PrinceVanHalen replied to ajg91342's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was told at least a minute between each bite. Chew chew chew. I chew till everything is nearly liquid before I swallow it. That also slows things down between bites. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
