  7. I was sleeved on May 23, 2016 and I had a really hard time in the beginning getting my Protein in. I spent tons of money trying new shakes and powders hoping to find one that didn't make me throw up. And thanks to this site, someone mentioned GENEPRO. It claimed that one scoop (1 tablespoon) is equal to 30 grams of protein. I was elated! No more 1/4 cup scoops of nasty powder to get my protein in! However, I'm a researchy (is that a word?) kind of gal and I decided to read up about it online and there is no hard evidence to back up their claim. I found a site where the actual developer commented on body building threads about the validity of its product, they also had a lawyer telling random internet people to "cease and desist" slander against their product. What legitimate company responds to negative reviews by having their lawyer telling people to stop or even scours random web forums? I kept looking online and found a YouTube video where the creator of Genepro talks about his powder.... This video is done in his house, in his kitchen, with low quality equipment. That's odd. He talks about how well his powder dissolves and how it doesn't change the texture of whatever it's mixed with, but if you take 1 tablespoon of any other kind of Protein Powder, it mixes just as well... Hmmm... So, if his process of making protein molecules smaller to take up less space is actually legit, why don't more people, especially in the body building industry, use it? I'm skeptical now... 8. I bet you are retaining Water from all the fluids that were pumped into you from surgery. Try to walk to help with gas, or get gas x strips... Seriously, walking helps so much. I live in a small apartment and I would walk back and forth from the kitchen to bedroom over and over and it seriously helped. I was on only liquids for the first week, and was allowed Protein shakes only if I got my required 50 oz of water in. Don't try to push the protein just yet, focus on hydration and moving! The first couple weeks suck - but it will get better!! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  9. Our Protein targets are for optimal recovery and weight loss, however if you're on solid food, that protein may be sufficient enough to show lab tests within normal ranges. Don't get me wrong, I bought it too. But after a lot of research, I feel any company that does videos in their kitchen, has lawyers reply to naysayers on Internet forums, the FDA made them change their dosage from grams to tablespoons, (which is a big red flag for protein) and it was required to list it as "approximate", - just makes me wary. 10. It smells like nothing, tastes like nothing, and dissolves great. But there is just no real proof those claims are true. I would hate to assume I'm getting 30 grams of Protein when I'm truly not. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  11. I agree, no taste and it mixes well. But my concern was if I rely on it to get my Protein in, am I really getting as much as they say? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

  13. I've hit 2 major stalls in the past 7 weeks. That's not right :/ So here's my question: I have been eating 800 calories a day, but I don't reach my Protein goal of 60 grams or more a day. I get about 40 grams a day - if I'm lucky. My question is, if I'm eating so little calories, how is the weight not coming off? Prior to WLS, if I ate 800 calories a day, I would be losing it left and right. Why is the protein so important in weight loss after WLS? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  14. So if I'm not meeting my Protein goals, I will stall more often. Correct? The Protein shakes count toward the Fluid goal - right? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  15. I was sleeved on May 23 as well! I lost 31 pounds in the first 2 weeks. Then the stall hit. It lasted 2 weeks and I actually gained during that time. A lot of the new, softer foods are high in sodium, so try to drink more water! I'm now down 40 - so you'll start losing again, but I know how frustrating it is when we stop! Anyone in the PNW?

  17. So, I broke my ankle in November and had surgery December 5. I didn't really pay attention at the time, or maybe I just didn't connect the dots, but I had hair loss after that surgery. It has really thinned out. I had my sleeve done May 23. I'm wondering if I will lose hair again? I know no one will know for sure, but was curious if anyone else has had 2 surgeries within a 6 month time period and if the hair loss came back to back. 18. My insurance required that as well. They accepted Weight Watchers as my weight loss program. So if you've signed up for that in the past, that might work. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  19. It depends on when your surgeon clears you to take regular pills. I prefer pills over chewables because most taste kinda gross. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  20. Yeah, I take Biotin everyday in chewable form. I bought mine on Amazon but GNC has chews as well. But I was also cleared for regular pills a couple weeks after surgery. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  21. I have had SEVERAL surgeries and never experienced this though. Sent from my SM-N920V using the BariatricPal App Yeah, I agree with the comment above. Rapid weight loss plus the drastic decrease in nutrition all factor into the hair loss equation. And trust me, I'm just as freaked out. I have super fine hair, and I'm worried out about losing large amounts. Hair loss usually happens about 3-4 months after WLS surgery, and depending on how bad it is, I may invest in a wig. 22. Yeah, I've heard nothing will stop it. It has to do with the trauma we go through during surgery. Our body puts the hair growth on hold to sustain our other vital organs. Look up Telogen Effluvium. But not all WLS patients have hair loss. I hope I'm not one of them!! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    1 month Post Op!

It's been good! But I won't lie, the first 2 weeks were rough. I was depressed and exhausted. Even walking to the bathroom was a lot of work. But the start of week 3, I turned a corner. I didn't have much pain, but getting your Fluid and Protein requirements in is hard. Make sure you find a protein supplement that works for you. I spent a ton of money buying shakes and powders hoping to find one that worked. I didn't. Just the smell of the shakes started making me throw up. The powders were the same. I eventually bought an unflavored Protein powder and put it in my warm broth. I was able to get some down that way, but was always far from my 60 grams a day. Once you're able to eat soft foods, like gets easier. Also, 2 weeks after surgery I got Thrush. It took forever to clear up. So if your tongue looks white and weird, call your surgeon. But I'm 1 month post op and down 35 pounds, so that's a plus! Also, I'm sure you've read about it, but there is something called the "3 week stall". I stalled at 2 weeks and it last two weeks. The scale did not move, and it actually went up. My surgeon attributed that to Water, hormones, not eating enough calories, and healing. But it's very VERY frustrating not to see the scale move after undergoing surgery. So just keep that in mind.. Good luck! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  24. It's been one month today... And what a ride it's been! I feel pretty good. No pain, and I can eat most of the foods I'm allowed without discomfort (except ground beef makes my pouch sad) I was cleared for all foods this week My surgeon prescribed a diuretic. She said I was extremely bloated. Since being on them, I've lost the 6 pounds I put on during my stall. But hopefully I won't gain it all back once I stop :/ My stall lasted 3 weeks... And it could still be going, but the Water pill is making the scale move, so only time will tell. I was previously eating 600-700 calories a day, but my surgeon said that was way too low and told to eat 800-1000 calories. That's seems a lot to me. Anyone else eating that much? 25. I had surgery with Dr. Houseworth on May 23 also! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App We May have been semi roomies, Sent from my KFTBWI using the BariatricPal App I was thinking the same thing! How's your post op been?? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App Overall I am doing well, just went back to work. How's your recovery? Sent from my KFTBWI using the BariatricPal App Pretty good. The first 2 weeks were rough. I thought I was only going to be off work 1 week, but ended taking off 2. I'm cleared for all foods at this point. But meeting my Protein requirements is challenging.
