February Bandsters
tinaf replied to NewGalWithABand's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This is what I have been seeing in other threads... BUT here is what my Post-Op was/is like 1-2 days - clear liquids (chicken broth, Jello, popcicles, etc.) 2 weeks - full liquids (creamed soups (strained), thin oatmeal, mashed up cottage cheese, thin mashed potatoes and of course protein shakes) weeks 3-4 - pureed/mushie (chicken, tuna, cottage cheese) basically anything I can tolerate that is fairly thing 4 weeks out- soft/solid foods - adding one different each day as tolerated I'm 16 days post surgery and this was my day yesterday: Breakfast: Carnation Instant Breakfast w/Protein powder 10:00 Bottled Water 12:00 1/4 Cup of tuna and a Campbells Soup at hand All after noon I sipped a bottled water 5:30 - One piece of flaky fish with tartar sauce (this was even slightly breaded) 7:00 - 1/2 ounce of colby/jack cheese --- Keep in mind the food food that I ate I CHEWED CHEWED CHEWED until there was almost nothing left. The fish really seemed to curb my appetite - really nothing after 5:30 (except the small amount of cheese) -
hahahahahahahahaha this made me lol --- you are SOOOOO right!

At what point - or EVER can we eat a salad? Does anyone know? For some reason this sounds really good to me.

Thanks to everyone who has responded - I'm 16 days post of - had not complications with sticking, PB's or anything of that nature - I'm on mushies now, so I might try it in a few days...

I think every doc has a different plan - for me I did the liquid thing a week before (and your're right it sucks), BUT after surgery (mine was the 5th) I only had to do TOTAL liquids for two days before getting to start on thin oatmeal, yogurt, that sort of thing... you honestly don't feel like eating much - I am now 15 days out and doing mushies and liquids and am really struggling to consume 600-800 calories a day - and that is before my first fill - which isn't scheduled for a few more weeks.

I was banded 15 days ago and everything seems to be going well, however, I am finding that I am REALLY having a hard time getting back into the groove of things, both at home and at work. I don't think it's a depression but I seem to just have no attention span and just feel "weird" it's something that is hard to explain or put into words. The best way to describe it is I just feel "off"-- not myself. Anyone else experienced anything similar?

Foggy head- clouded thougths after surgery?
tinaf replied to tinaf's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Nope no pain meds. I do think the lack of caffiene might be part of the deal - I was a 4-5 cup a day/morning coffee drinker -
I don't think it's selfish at all - even if you don't have complications now - in your thirties - or even forties - there are so many other things than can go wrong as you get older. For myself, my mother and grandmother are both overweight/obese and I have seen them struggle their whole adult life with different things ranging from NO energy to bad knees to more serious medical condidtions. I did not want to be like that. I do not want to live the rest of my life on a handful of pills. For me, the turning point was this past summer when I tried to ride bikes with my son -- I got out on the bike path and LITERALLY thought I was going to have to call my husband to pick me up. I don't want to be that person. I don't want my son to see that person.

Throbbing Pain Port or Band? HELP!
tinaf replied to Jeni's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 15 days past surgery and I still have port pain - and it seems to be getting gradually better - but definately still there - I also have problems moving certain ways - I can actually "feel" it in there and then feel like it is "pulling" I don't like it but I suppose part of it is just normal healing. I also "strained" my stomach getting out of the bathtub last night (my first REAL soaker since the surgery) and then even felt naseaus after. -
Did you tell people about your band???
tinaf replied to Braedensmom's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I was so glad to see this discussion thread. I am struggling with this now. I was banded on Feb 5 - but only a select few people know what my surgery ACTUALLY consisted of. This was a HUGE issue with me. I only told our office manager at work and then my friends at work that I eat lunch with (didn't want them to think I was snubbing them all of a sudden). I only told in-laws and other family members AFTER the fact and then told them that I didn't really want to talk about it - and explained that I felt it was a personal thing for me. I haven't told my boss - he thinks I had gallbladder surgery. I felt horrible about my "fib" but I don't want 20 questions from everyone asking about my progress, watching what I eat, etc.--and believe me - people at work and even my "friends" would do this. It's a funny thing - it's something I wanted to do for myself - and I just feel like NOT EVERYONE needs to be a part of that. ---I guess part of the reason I havne't told EVERYONE too is that, in all honesty, they have, at one time or another made me feel bad about my weight-- I guess I didn't want them to think "they won" or something - I don't know. It's something I struggle with daily - especially because there are times when I just want to TALK about it. Bottom line for me - it's my body, my business-- who I decide to tell is totally my decision and shouldn't need to be justified. -
Just banded Feb 5....looking for buddies
tinaf posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hello all..... I was just banded on the 5th of February... had to have a hiatal hernia repair at the same time so the pain was a little more than I expected. I'm doing better (2 weeks out as of today) and am really tolerating food well with no complications. I am having hunger issues tho - trying to keep the Protein up, sugar down and drinking lots of fluids. I'm interested in chatting with others who were banded around the same time - let's do this together...... Oh - by the way - I've lost 9-10 pounds in two weeks. Amazing. Let's hope this keeps up as I introduce more solid food. -
I've got a story like that - was sitting in my bosses office one day - he is talking to a collegue on the phone on conference call - and they were discussing a doctor who does gastric by-pass - he says "all he does is sit around down there and talk to fat women" --- then looks at me and says "no offense" I'm like WTF????????

Calling all February Bandsters!
tinaf replied to LilMissDiva Irene's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hello - I'm a February Bander - the 5th to be exact (two weeks ago to the date). After reading some posts, I feel very fortunate to have received this surgery when I did - I started the whole process the first week of November - had some Insurance red tape, etc. but was banded three months later. I guess I have no complaints in that area! -
I've tried a few different Protein powders and I like the Whey Protein at GNC - comes in a zip top bag and is 14.99 for a pound. It is TOTALLY unflavored. HEre is what I've mixed in in so far with NO taste additions - if ANYTHING it makes things just a tad "creamy" Tomato Soup Crystal Light Cream of chicken Soup Carnation Instant Breakfast Yogurt Mashed Potatoes Really - it doesn't taste and disolves well.

I'm in southeastern Ohio - and was just banded on Feb 5th - I hear Cleveland has good docs. Good luck!
-
I saw this show too -well, most of it - it freaked me out - the lady said that they thought her body had absorbed it.... apparently it wasn't stitched in, and I would image no port
-
I would ask if you are doing the Protein shakes? This might soothe your stomach a bit. My doc only required liquid diet for two days (clear liquids) and then they move us to what they call a FULL liquid diet which is thin oatmeal, smashed up cottage cheese, (even mashed potatoes made thin) - for two weeks... then on to mushy/pureed food and then regular food. I too, when I try something new will chew it until it's liquid state - I'm not sure about meat tho. I think the theory is not to eat anything more solid while you are healing.

Surgery done, sore and a little worried...
tinaf replied to TX_IT_Chick's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hey Shandra - I am two week out (as of today) and I'm eating the same as you, well, I haven't tried the fish yet, but was planning on that for dinner tonight... my doc seems to have given me a slightly different phase-in diet as what others on here have had. I have not had any problems with restriction and I am eating CONSIDERABLY less than before -- I don't get my first fill until the 11th of March..... Right now my meals have consisted of soup at hand soups by Campbells, yogurt, cottage cheese and I have mastered chicken (chewed up very very well) and of course those mashed potatoes! -
Funny you should mention this - I just told someone today that i haven't drank a WHOLE cup of coffee since my surgery (I was banded on the 5th of this month).....I have tried, but I just don't have a "taste" for it any more....... I think this is a good thing, as the de-caf just doesn't do it for me anyway ---- (I've even tried a cup of regular - with no success, I just don't want it for some reason....
