Foods you no longer enjoy
Ldyvenus replied to MerryMarie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Potatoes, especially french fries, taste like salty cardboard. It's the only thing that changed for me. Definitely a plus in my book, I don't need fries anyways. -

3 months post op and gained 3lbs

If you are a woman pay attention to your TOM. I gain 3-5 lbs during ovulation. I'm pretty sure that started back up in month 4. -

Holy flavor explosion Batman! Me and the little one went for a free (sample) lunch at Costco this afternoon. They had hummus and Taboule on a multigrain cracker. I have never been a fan of hummus, but together, yummy. So I decided to get some and put it in my Whisp parmesan crisps, so good. The downside is obviously Costco is bulk, so this will be my lunch for the next 2 weeks, and I'll probably still have leftovers because everybody else in the house is afraid of flavor explosions. 😁 -

I have hit 6 months today. I didn't make it to Onderland, but I'm darn close. The past few weeks has been rough for me. I am looking for work, which I understand is a numbers game, but rejection still hurts, eventually... I have noticed increased hunger, my calories have been between 1400 - 1600 this month. I am honestly surprised I lost 5 lbs. I feel like the honeymoon is truly over, I need to get out of this funk and follow the plan. On the other hand, yay! 🤗 I've lost a total of 61 pounds in 6 months. -
Get a silicone based lube. They are awesome! Never sticky or gummy. Our go to is the Wet Platinum, but the last time I was at Walmart they had the other brand.

Antisocial before surgery...life afterwards?

Meh. I still don't like most people. 😒 The older I get, the more I know. -
Did You Pay in Full for Operation Before Leaving for Mexico?
Ldyvenus replied to Animal Lover's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I used my credit card, because I didn't want to carry that much cash. I paid a $500 deposit using the card, then I let my CC company know well ahead of time, that I would me making a large purchase in Mexico. -
I was the same way. I over prepared by reading everything I could, and following a few people's journeys on YouTube. I was convinced that I was only going to be able to sip water and struggle to get anything in. I was terrified of getting a leak or stricture. But everything has worked out well. Good luck on your journey. 😁

Hi Claire, It's all normal. You wont feel restriction until you get to the next stage, liquid goes right through. There are also alot of us that are hungry right after the sleeve. My hunger never really went away.

Looking for some people in Alberta who have been sleeved in 2017!
Ldyvenus replied to AlbertaGirl17's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm not sure about that. I got the feeling that once you met the criteria to get in to the program, they put everybody through the same basic steps. I guess it's possible that they speed up the process for someone who has a great need. -

Good luck AB girl. I had my doc refer me to my local WW clinic, they didn't put me on the list because they miscalculated my BMI. I had my BMI re-submitted to two different WW clinic and I am still waiting for that call/letter. I would definitely call to check up in a few weeks. You have roughly a 1.5 - 2 year wait. When I looked into it 2 years ago, they were doing a study and pushing a few candidates through the program faster, I'm not sure if they are still doing that. But the study was comparing patients who received their education online, to patients who went to the classes. Obviously I chose Mexico over fighting with the WW clinic over my BMI. I don't regret my decision. AB health even refunded a portion of the money to me. I will also be claiming it on this year's taxes. I do wish I had better nutrition/psych prep before I did this. Because if you don't change the foods you eat, and your attitude towards food, it will be a struggle. -
Feeling empty?

I had my surgery in Mexico. I think they must have some regulations regarding narcotic pain meds, (or maybe they are more expensive?) because I think they gave me something the first night after many tears and discomfort. The next day I had to suck it up, they put me on ketorolac. I've had a few surgeries in the U.S., they usually have you pretty gorked for the first 24-48 hours, then send you home with a narcotic pain reliever. It was a bit of a surprise, but after day 2 the pain was really minimal.

For me, when I hit 30 lbs. it was noticeable. I also wear a lot of clothes with give, so they fit me for quite awhile. Now that I am about to hit a 60 lb. loss, I can absolutely tell, and half of my clothes look funny on me (bag ladyish )

From the album: My Progress
I put a pair of pants on that I haven't worn since last summer. They looked ridiculous, so I started going through all of my pants and shorts to make a pile for donation. This is something I have avoided for one reason or another, up until this point. I even ended up going through the dreaded Jean pile. The jeans I am wearing in the pic are a 15, they are the smallest jeans I've ever worn in my adult life. I wore these jeans on dates with my husband over 14 years ago. I keep them as a goal to work towards, and today I realized that I am really close to being able to throw my old jeans on and take hubby out on a date. Maybe there will be Zima too! 😁 -
I will add to this by saying take some measurements every month. It is also a good idea to find an app that will help you track your protein. My Fitness Pal tracks everything. Good luck on your journey!

If you don't own a scale and why?
Ldyvenus replied to Cateyez001's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Same here. When I would start seeing myself go up, I stopped weighing. I will use the scale daily now, for accountability. Once I get to goal, I will have a 5-10lb range that I will fight like hell to stay in for the rest of my life. -
I have actually seen a receipe where they literally make "pizza" in a frying pan with just cheese and ham or pepperoni. I think I will wait on the Fathead until I'm closer to goal. I have not been doing well this past month with calories. No need to add to it. I did find some Whisps at Costco today, they are pretty good. Thanks for all of the responses you guys, I haven't been getting any notifications. Lol, I would have come back sooner.

The relationship between head hunger and habits
Ldyvenus replied to Berry78's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I find that after surgery, the grocery store is almost like information overload. It's like walking into a casino. I still have some work to do in this area. I have been shopping at different stores lately, and avoiding my regular grocery store. -
From the album: A Few of my Favorite Things
I used sandwich steak and added mushrooms, garlic, onions, and green peppers. I topped the whole thing with provolone cheese. It came out okay, I am still searching for the right steak/ seasoning combo. -
How did you ask for time off work?
Ldyvenus replied to bbk95's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I told my boss it was for a hiatal hernia. I also handled all of the paperwork between the insurance company and work. -

Good luck on the surgery! Don't worry about traffic, I don't think a few minutes will hurt.
