Hi all, I am scheduled to have band surgery on 28th Feb. I have decided to tell noone except my daughter as I am not confident that people will be supportive. I am so pleased that I have found this site. I think I will need the support and it is so great to hear that everyone is happy with their decision to have a band as I am starting to wonder what I have done!!!

that is so fantastic. You should be so proud of yourself. This is the start of a fantastic new life for all of us. Cheers to all of us who have taken control of our lives, long may it continue!!!

Yes...I have restriction...Now I'm afraid to eat anything solid
malby replied to BlessedTwice's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I had 5cc in an 8cc band and could eat almost anything, except in the morning. However, I had another 1cc last week and am now struggling to eat anything at all. I have been able to eat things in the past week so I dont think that I am too tight but today I couldnt even eat a couple of spoonfulls of the middle of a baked potato without pb'ing. I am pb'ing on everything. I dont want to eat mushies or liquids so can you share what you can eat and what you cant. I also see that others on here are saying that if you pb you should go liquid for a day. How many of you do this and why is it necessary? I really need to relearn how to eat with this band. Any advice will be gratefully received. -

My 4 month anniversary is next week and I have lost 28 pounds so far. I have 6cc in an 8cc band. 5cc first and then another 1cc last week. But I am struggling to eat much at the moment as everything comes back up!!! Never mind, maybe I will lose more weight. -
I am so pleased that it is not just me!

I have just had my second fill. I now have 6ml in a 10ml band. Until my fill, I found that it was just willpower as you can really eat anything. Now, I eat about half of a meal before I am full to the brim. Never feel hungry ever. Which is great. I think it is the thought that I have spent all this money and had some pretty drastic surgery that makes me think that I just cant fail this time. However, I am happy to lose the weight slowly but still be able to lead a normal life. I probably have about 1500 calories a day and seem to be losing about half a pound a week, but with no effort. I know that if I punish myself with a very low calorie diet, I will rebel and eat loads so I am happier with this. I had my surgery three months ago now and am just learning how to make myself full and avoid the easy options that go down easy but dont fill you up. It is a hard learning curve but you will get there. After being overweight for a long time, who cares how long it takes to get it off as long as we do. I hope you feel better soon, take care and any questions, just ask.

I have never burped as much as I have since WLS. Really long loud manly burps too. Seems to me that it is after I have eaten when the last of the food is going down, I feel like I could burp for England. I use it as an indicator of how long it takes for the food to pass through the pouch. Only problem is that now I am used to it, i forget that other peole might be offended and sometimes forget to hide it. That is embarrassing!

Keep up te good work, it is all downhill form here.

Hi, I too was banded in Bromsgrove, but on 28/2. It was the best decision I ever made. Hope everything goes well for you, let me kow how you are doing.

So well done. The hardest part is when you are with people who dont know that you have been banded. I have only told one other person other than my daughter and I wish i hadnt done that. Persevere and it is amazing how people dont notice how little you are eating. Especially because you are eating much more slowly. Problem I am having at the moment is BBq's. If someone gives me a hamburger, I can only eat half, so I eat it very slowly and then casually ditch the the second half. Noone ever notices!!! It is fab! Keep with it, you will succeed, but my advice is, dont tell anyone. -
Would someone be critisised for using smoking Patches to stop smoking or HRT patches to help with menopause. No, of course they woudlnt, they woudl be applauded for making an effort to change their life. So, why is it that people who have a lap band are ridiculed. I personally only told my 15 year old daughter that I was havign surgery and it was fantastic not to have to listen to anyone elses opinion. I then made the mistake of telling my best friend one night when she caught me pb'ing. What a catastrophe, she didnt understand at all and when, a month later, I had a mini stroke because of a car accident she said ' do you think it is because you had that operation and havnt been eating properly". I was absolutely gutted and felt really let down. I totally agree with Fern that it is a personal decision and she does not need to ask anyones permission. The other argument against her is that she has made money from advertisements for weight loss products but we all know that the band is not a magic wand and that you do have to have some will power and watch what you eat so she wasnt exactly lying was she. Rant over, I just wish people didnt feel the need to critise so easily.

I have just returned from a week long trip to spain (I live in the UK). I had terrible problems eating much for 3 or 4 days after each flight. It felt like I had severe restriction after the flight and could not manage much more than a few mouthfulls. I was PB'ing extremely badly after a couple of mouthfulls when I had not PB'd much at all before that. I wondered if anyone else had experienced this. I am taking a 9 hour flight in August and am thinking of having an unfill before I go purely because it was so unpleasant. On the upside, I didnt put on an ounce of weight!!!

at the end of Feb this year. He was fine, no issues with teh surgery or aftercare. In fact the nurses were absolutely lovely. I had mine done through the Hospital group because I wanted the aftercare service that they offer. I have a face to face or telephone meetign with the dietician every month and I have found that very useful. I had a 5cc fill in April and am having another 1cc put in next week. I have lost 25lb which isnt as massive as some of our US friends but I am happy because it is really not impacting my life that much at all but I am losing about a pound a week. I am sure I could do it more quickly if I starved but, hey, life is too short for that. Hope everything goes well for you. I still believe that it was the best decision I have every made. I wish I had done it 10 years ago!!!

Hi, I had my op with teh hospital group in bromsgrove. It cost me 7K and I have no complaints whatsoever. My care was superb. They also provide aftercare which is not provided with WGA and that is somethign that I particularly wanted. I actually wanted to have to go to Bromsgrove for an appoi ntment. So far I have had one face to face and one telephone appointment with them. I have lost 25lbs with very little effort. It is slow and methodical but I am loving it. For the first time, I really think that this is something that is going to work for me. I have had one fill and am due another in a couple of weeks after I come back from holiday. I thin kI get one more free on after that and then have to pay for them. I thought I would give another side of the story. I dont have any complaints.

It was with teh hospital group, they have a hospital called Dolan Park. I had Mr Sigurdson. They were very good during my stay and have been OK with support after.

Hi all, I was banded on 28/2 in Bromsgrove, lost 10kg in first month and nothing since. I would really love to get together with other bandsters to help with motivation, cheering on etc etc. Does anyone know of any groups that are already set up or woudl anyone be interested in starting one.

Sorry for being stupid but what is onederland?

Banded 28/2, lost 17lbs first fill 28/3, only lost 2lb since. really fed up because I am eating really small meals. 5 days a week, keeping to 1000 to 1200 calories, 2 days a week 1500-1600 calories (wine at weekend). I shoudl be losing loads as this is much less than I was eating before. Why am I not losing weight? How do you keep motivated?

Hi all, I had my surgery in Bromsgrove on 28th February. I lost 10kg really easily and then absolutely nothing. I have had one fill of 5cl, first week in April. I think I need another one. Getting a bit fed up but still pleased with my decision. I have just been to try on my holiday clothes and was really pleased that things I have been unable to wear for 2 years fit. I bought a fab chiffon kaftan a few weeks ago from Jasper Conran, the first time I have ever been able to buy anything from designers at Debenhams. It was too small but I was hoping that I could wear it on my holidays. I just tried it on and it fits. I was sooo pleased. Maybe I am losing inches rather than pounds. Has anyne else had this?
-
I can so empathise with you. I was banded on the 28/2 and lost 20lb really easily. I had a fill on the 5/4 and have only lost 2lbs since. I have started drinking wine again as well, because it seems so demoralising. I have to give it up again and get with the program. I am starting to think that this is not going to work for me.

really fed up - banded 28/2, not losing weight
malby replied to malby's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I do have a problem with bowel movements, maybe once every 3 or 4 days when before I was very regular. I am waiting for an appointment with my dietician to discuss. I was determined that I was not going to give up my life, so was not going to give up a few glasses of wine but I am now thinking, is this possible? I so want to have a normal life as well as lose weight. -
they tol dme I had to do liquids for 5 days and mushies for 5 days. This was ridiculous as noone else has had these instructions. I did liquids for 24 hrs and mushies for 24 hrs and was fine. Really peeves me off that the instructions are so different. Make me wonder what their motives are for being so restrictive. It is almost like they have to make you suffer, or is taht my own paranoia coming out????
-
Hi all, I have my first fill tomorrow but am not sure whether I can eat or drink before it or whether I have to have an empty stomach. Did you guys have any instructions?
-
It is like it is just under my skin. It moves around as well, depending on whether I am sitting or standing. My fill was by xray so I thought that must be where the port was but it has moved around by 2-3 inches since then. Is this normal?

I am getting the stangest feeling in my stomach. It is really hard to describe but is kind of like acid is attacking my stomach lining but it doesnt feel like acid reflux. It seems to happen when I lie on my left side or when my stomach is gurgling after all the food has emptied out of the pouch. It goes away after a few minutes (or until I turn over)but is really uncomfortable for a little while. Is this normal, has anyone else experienced this.
