Especially when the best way to accumulate wealth is by owning a home. As we've seen with a couple posters, the market definitely has tanked IN THE SHORT RUN. Thankfully I love my house and have no plans to move so I'm blessed to not to have to make any big fin'l decisions re: real estate right now. I saw an online news article by a financial professional that stated that he didn't think that as many banks would fail as they did in the 90's. I remembered the S&L scandal (that a Bush brother was involved in, btw) from the 80's but I didn't even remember banks failing in the 90's. As any of us that have lived more than a minute know, the market goes up and the market comes back down to adjust itself. I liken these troubling times to the idea that in order to appreciate the good in our lives, we must also struggle with and live through the bad. (No I don't mean to sound pollyannish.) I hope everything stablizes soon; this is a daunting time. Whew.

In this same vein (sp), my uncle is a kerazzzzyyyyyy Republican and began sending me these BS emails during the Bush/Kerry election and it has now begun again. Last election, I asked him not to send me anything political b/c we are SO far apart politically. Today he sent me some "Obama's gonna tax us to death" email. I um kinda went off on him about how Bush Sr left Clinton with a huge debt that he whittled down only to have Dubya spend money like a drunken sailor. I also um kinda told him that he could keep sending the craziness but that I didn't read them. OK so I was a little rude but HELLO this has been going on for at least 4 years. OMG

I had a shitty career even with an MBA until 4 years ago. The economy has been very cyclical so perhaps Mrs. just happened to have only been an adult during the good times. To appreciate the good, one must go through bad sometime. Susan - what I don't get with your situation is why Countrywide would want to take from you. Wouldn't they make more money keeping you paying what is probably a higher house price? If you default, they have to sell (which means a realtor cost, I presume) and closing costs and then probably selling at a lower price. I just don't get it.
