  1. Okay all of this may be TMI but I need answers!!! I'm a month post op and have been kind of spotting dark brown every day since surgery. It stops right after shower for most of the day but comes back again and the odor is horrible. What is going on?!

Another question, my boyfriend and I have tried to have sex and I can't get wet. That's never been a problem. We have to use lube now. That's no fun. I'm getting depressed. Please tell me I'm not alone and that I can fix all of this somehow :(

  2. Hey! I haven't had my pre-op surgeon appt yet but at the nurse practitioner appt I definitely had a bunch of questions. Here's a few:

    - Based on my body type, etc...what percentage of excess body weight could I expect to see in the best situation?

    - What exercises are best post-op? Do you usually suggest Water aerobics, yoga, etc? Which are better than others to help promote healing?

    - Is there an emergency line that I can call specifically for bariatric patients?

    - What type of clothing should I wear post-op at the hospital and at home following the hospital?

    - How long do you expect me to stay at the hospital?

    - How much movement can I expect to be doing during the first few days post-op?

    - What are the signs and symptoms of something going wrong post-op?

    :)

    Those are great! THANK YOU!

I think it just took a week or so for mine

    awesome thank you

  5. I had the gastric sleeve done 2 1/2 years ago and I lost 70 pounds and have kept it off. I LOVE MY SLEEVE. But I have terrible GERD and Acid Reflux that has caused many problems. I am going through the process now of getting ready to have a revision to a bypass. I prefer the sleeve but the bypass will clear up the reflux issues I'm having now. All of the surgeries work but they are just tools and its up to you to pick your meals and stay on your diet. Good luck to all who have not had surgery yet, you are going to love it.

I'm so happy that I'm even getting surgery! I can't wait and I know I'll love it! Hoping bypass will help your gerd!!

  6. @@hernewselfie when all is said and done, people have success with either surgery. It's up to you to decide if you want more accountability, longer weight loss period, no need to revise, or if you want safer, less restrictive, less surgery time, less long-term data. Realistically speaking, there isn't a huge discrepancy between the two surgeries concerning most of these things. "safer" means a fraction of 1% safer. "Less surgery time" means 30-60 minutes less surgery time. The main differences between them that matter in the end are a need to revise, the amount of restriction you want or feel you need to be successful, and whether you're willing to need to take a couple Vitamins a day for the rest of your life. Either way, you will be successful if you do what your plan requires of you. So you play it safe and get the sleeve if that is something that concerns you, or you take a risk and get the bypass, knowing that it is a step beyond the sleeve and wanting that extra step. Good luck to you!

Thank you so much. you've been a great help!

  7. I was also torn as my surgeon said both would work for me. I decided on the bypass finally. Mostly because of the years of data to back it up. Also, my insurance only will cover once. If I decided to go from sleeve to revision to the bypass it would be out of my pocket.

That's how I'm feeling too. I can't afford two surgeries

  8. I can't decide which one I want. I'm really leaning more toward the bypass, though, mainly because of the accountability and the faster weight loss. The surgeons and bariatric center doctors I'm going to are the ones who have the final say which surgery will be best for me. That's ok with me, though, because they have a higher than normal success rate with their patients.....so I'll follow what they say, in their experience, will be the best option for me. ;)

I'm leaning towards bypass as well for those reasons. I'm excited to see what my surgeon recommends. But I've already been told I can choose either one so I think bypass it is [emoji4]

  9. @hernewselfie... I think the pre surgical test they do either endoscopy or upper gi series will shed some light on if one procedure is better than the other for you... Otherwise I think it's between you and the doctor.

Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I've had the upper gi done but don't really know what results were. Guess I'll find out when I see my surgeon
