Dating (ugh)
highfunctioningfatman replied to ryan_86's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I personally would recommend waiting until closer to your goal weight due to hormone dumping out of your fat cells. Hormones can do crazy things! -
Interestingly enough I make the same experience with the private patients (German healthcare system). Of course most of the patients aren't really this way.I take issue with you're Medicaid statement.. I'm retired on Medicare and because my income is so low I qualify for AZ healthcare the equivalent of medicaid, and I'm grateful to have the extra insurance. So not all medicaid subscribers are not whiners.Sent from my SM-G550T1 using the BariatricPal App You are correct. Not all medicaid patients are whiners. I was speaking directly about the entitlement attitude. I also stated "many, not all".

How Do You Keep Stress Down on Thanksgiving?
highfunctioningfatman replied to Alex Brecher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
As crazy as this sounds, we invite more people. We love to cook and we find that more people means more conversation. Less opportunity for the whackadoodles in the family to narrow their focus! As it is my father in law is in the nut house and he will have a 2 hour pass to be at our house. During those 2 hours we are required to have someone with him at all times and we have to lock up all sharp objects. -
Water tolerance
highfunctioningfatman replied to MayritaMonty's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 12 weeks out and I can't drink plain water without what you are describing. I can do Propel or Powerade Zero mixed 50/50 with water without issues. -
First major holiday meal coming up since being sleeved . . .
highfunctioningfatman replied to simpsongrad's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I did a church Thanksgiving dinner tonight. My choices were about 2oz of turkey with gravy, 1/4 cup of green beans and one regular size spoonful of stuffing. I avoided the sweets completely. -
As it turns out I'm hunchback! I always knew that I had a lot of weight on my back but I always assumed that it was fat. According to my wife I have very little fat left on my back. Looking at this side view picture of myself I now understand why my upper back is hurting all of the time. The proper name is kyphosis. There are a few different exercises that I can do to help from what I can find online. I'd be surprised if they help much and if they don't apparently I need to go find a bell to ring!

So THIS is why my back hurts!

Not yet. I have a friend who was a corpsman in the Navy and he saw me and mentioned it. I did a bit of internet diagnosis and went, dang. I had mentioned that somehow my man boobs and my Buddha belly were the same size. -

We all have choices. In this case it's cry, whine or laugh. I will laugh and perhaps have a sip of whine. -
Best place in Mexico?

I went through Trinity Medical in Tijuana. Excellent experience. They treated my wife and I with dignity and respect. If you want to know more shoot me a message. -

Dating (ugh)
highfunctioningfatman replied to ryan_86's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree 100% with online dating and going out a lot. Don't get your hopes up that something will just happen and you'll mee the right one easily. I met my wife on match.Com but I dated probably 30 women before I found her. I first started dating that I thought were what I wanted in a woman and I went on some crappy dates. Finally I had enough of that and I made a list of everything that I didn't want in a woman and adjusted to find women that as long as they didn't fall in the "nope" list I would go out with them. I went on some really great dates. Oddly enough my wife is everything that I wanted from my original thoughts and so much more. -

My Father is against surgery
highfunctioningfatman replied to Siyaa Ela's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My dad would be against surgery as well. My mom died 8 months after gastric bypass. It wasn't known that she had lung cancer and her body couldn't fight the cancer and heal from surgery at the same time. The surgery didn't cause her to die but my dad is VERY much against it. I simply told my dad that I over produced ghrelin the hormone that causes hunger (true) and that I was having surgery to remove a stomach ulcer and reduce the ghrelin (also true). He is happy that I've been losing weight since the surgery. -
Sex..... Question for adults
highfunctioningfatman replied to Raymia's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Okay I think I'll just grab some Magnums.... I don't want to risk getting pregnant but I like to have a good time!!! He just gotta deal with it Magnums ??? Much respect. .357 or .44? Magnums?Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App Something tells me that magnum sizes guys have this conversation...I know what you are thinking, did he fire blank shots or were they live?" Well to tell you the truth in all this excitement I kinda lost track when my eyes rolled to the back of my head and my knees buckled. But being this is a Magnum sized schlong, the most powerful penisgun in the world, you've gotta ask yourself one question: "Do I feel lucky?" Well, do ya, punk? LOL. Thank you "Dirty-mouth Harry". Dirty mouth not so much, dirty mind absolutely! -

Watch "Up - Dug the Talking Dog - "Squirrel !"" on YouTube
highfunctioningfatman replied to doxaholic's topic in Rants & Raves
That was an awesome movie! I think that we all have squirrel moments even though we may not want to admit it. On a side note, that was the first 3D movie that my wife and I watched. Also if your not having a moist eye in the first 10 minutes of the movie then it is time for a one way trip into the woods. -
After 12 days I think its over

Keep it up! I'm in a stall myself. I didn't lose much in inches this week but I've lost over 30 inches total and I will be 12 weeks on Monday. The stall will break and the weight will go! -
Going back to work after WLS
highfunctioningfatman replied to trm's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I would have gone stir crazy and been doing things that I definitely shouldn't have been doing. My garage and I would have been best friends and I would have stripping trucks, building engines and doing at least 2 engine swaps. As it is Monday will be 12 weeks and I have this week off. This will be my first real time spent in the garage. I plan to drag a wrecked truck home, get it running and start stripping it, build an engine, custom paint it to match the truck that it is going into, possibly paint the inner fenders, front suspension and core support. I have to resolder the gauge cluster in my dad's car. Diagnose a charging problem with a power chair and get it up for sale. Parent teacher conference. Refinance the house. Shop for thanksgiving. Spend all day Wednesday prepping and Thursday cooking. Sunday of next weekend will be going to the woods to get our Christmas tree. On top of all of that we will have a bunch of family here and have commitments there as well. As you can see I don't slow down for anything and it would be very difficult to have taken 4 weeks off and not hurt myself. -

Annoying annoying
highfunctioningfatman replied to Siyaa Ela's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Perspective is reality. Their perspective of themselves is their reality. I never got it either until I started really losing weight. For them going up at all is getting fat. For us we long to be where they are and that is our perspective based on our reality. -

I'm not trying to defend anyone in this thread but I do want to talk about my own experience with medicaid patients. I work in the health care field. I will say that based on my experience, that many, not all medicaid patients have a very entitled attitude. They are generally the ones that complain and get pissed off when they don't get their way. It can easily sour someone's perception of all medicaid patients when you work with this issue day after day. Mentally it can be quite taxing. I have to admit that when I deal with one of the entitled patients I think to myself "well, I guess my taxes are paying for this one". Somehow that makes it easier in my screwed up brain.
