Pre-surgery weight loss
highfunctioningfatman replied to Crafty Li'l Devil's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I quit soda several years ago and I hate to be a downer but I gained 30 pounds in the 8 weeks after I quit. I spoke to my doctor and he said that it was because the caffeine was keeping my metabolism up. I'm by no means suggesting that you keep your Coke habit but if you don't drop or even increase you might have an idea why. For me dropping the carbs has been the key. During Thanksgiving and the few days after I had much more carbs and I didn't loose a thing. On Wednesday I went on a lower than usual carb diet (normally less than 35 now at 15) and I've dropped 3 pounds. -
Before W.L.S. and after W.L.S.
highfunctioningfatman replied to northstar9148's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Your mobility will depend greatly on your pain level. I was off of the drugs 4-6 hours after surgery. If you are having a hard time and on drugs you shouldn't be going anywhere. I had no problem driving 3 days after my surgery. -
What are pros and cons?!
highfunctioningfatman replied to eng_semi's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Pros; I've lost 75 pounds since August. My blood pressure has gone from 160/110 with a heart rate in the mid 80's to 110/80 with a heart rate in the mid to upper 60's. I went from a tight 3xl, loose 4xl shirt to a very loose 2xl, snug xl shirt. I went from 38 jeans to 32 jeans. Certain body parts are larger and more usable My wife can put her arms all of the way around me. I look better, I feel much better, Cons; My upper back was killing me from posture change. It turns out that I have kyphosis (I'm a hunchback) and I will most likely have to buy a brace to help me out. I'm freaking cold! I was more bundled up last night to go to a parade in 45 degree weather than I was when I used to ride snowmobiles! I will never do the 6 pound burrito challenge at my local Mexican restaurant. Hmmm, maybe that isn't a con... -
Lost almost HALF of me? WOW!

Being cold is getting old!
highfunctioningfatman replied to highfunctioningfatman's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My theory on being cold it that my heart rate was always 85-87. Now it is 65-68, that is a 20% drop in the amount blood and heat being carried through my body. It makes sense to me! -
14 weeks from surgery tomorrow and I'm down 75 pounds!

Wow! Somehow reading many of your posts, I just knew you'd be one of the successful ones. That's wonderful!

Apnea will occur under anesthesia as well. They need to know. -
Only me
highfunctioningfatman replied to rny100516's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Depending on where you live you might be able to throw protein shakes outside and have them be cold enough. On my local craigslist you can pick up a cheap refrigerator for less than $100 quite often. Granted it is probably puke green or previously housed a body but it will get you through until better times. -
Anyone with incision and back pain?
highfunctioningfatman replied to 81Kellogram's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was on my belly 2 days after. The back pain may be from posture changes. I was having trouble right after surgery with back pain. I'm 14 weeks out tomorrow and down 74 pounds. I'm just to the point of my back not hurting most of the time. -
Being cold is getting old!
highfunctioningfatman replied to highfunctioningfatman's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had a job offer in Clearwater Florida that I turned down. There are just too many people there for our lifestyle! It was also 91 degrees with 90+% humidity when I was there in July of 2015. The area still wouldn't be for us but flip flops might be possible there. -

We were at Crater Lake last weekend and it was 26 degrees. I took my jacket and gloves off for a family photo. Brrrrr! -

I've been there. One of the worst travel experiences that my wife and I have ever had was in Texas and we vowed that we would only go back if we had to. I will say that this is my favorite picture of my truck and of course, it is in Texas. -

And you won't as long as you are on a liquid diet. Once you get on solids then you will start feeling the restriction. -

Migraines/"out of it" Pre-op diet
highfunctioningfatman replied to sill21's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Getting in a lot of water helps with the migraines. Also if it is cold outside, go breathe the cold air. I can't tell you why but it helps. -
If you are scared, maybe my story can help.

Wow, what a difference! You have definitely been through a lot to get to where you are today. Congratulations for taking bull by the horns and taking control of your life! -
Oxygen for 4 weeks post op!?
highfunctioningfatman replied to RellaBelle's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Having O2 post op is somewhat common for any major surgery. I work for a national oxygen and respiratory company and I see it several times a month. -

Social life after sleeve
highfunctioningfatman replied to cmbev's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just follow the basic rules. Protein first, veggies if room, don't drink 15 minutes before eating, wait to drink for 30 minutes after eating. Social gatherings are no problem whatsoever. -

Pet peeve: extra skin.
highfunctioningfatman replied to JupiterinVirgo's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I had loose skin as a fat man to start with! I agree that the mentality of I will just stay fat because of skin issues is ludicrous. Even with the weight that I've already lost I can see that a tummy tuck is in my future because of a Betty Crocker apron of skin. I do believe that the OP wasn't intending this in a negative way for post op, just for those with their craniums up their rectum who would choose to stay fat because THEY are so vain that they don't want to risk saggy skin. -
Huge but hopeful...

You ought to check out @salodyssey. He started out as a pretty big guy as well. He has some struggles that are a bit different from a lot of us and he might be able to give a better prospective. -
