I'm pretty tight and have found that having something hot to drink before I eat helps a lot. I hope your doctor's visit improves your situation. Roberta

We all have had the same feeling prior to surgery. Having any type of surgery done while you have a respiratory problem is extremely dangerous; so be glad the anesthesiologist realized you were sick. The two weeks will give you the chance to lose some more weight and you'll have that much less to lose after banding. I wish you the best! Roberta

April 2006 Bandits January Challenge

Betty, you are doing so great with your weight!! I think the skys the limit with you, Dawn, and Julie. You three are just awesome. Kat, I waited until I was about 54 to develop asthma...nothing better to do I guess. I had allergies when I was in my early teens but outgrew them. Who would have guessed that as an adult this would have happened. Not feeling too great today, so no exercise done. Anyone heard from Susan and Bluehill? Roberta -

Julie, your new place sounds very nice (private garden). I've heard how those interviews can be. I'm sure you'll do just fine. Dawn, impressive run in that cold weather. I can't imagine doing that. Kat, that mural sounds beautiful! It's damp and rainy here so I'm still a little congested but holding my own. Went to Curves this morning, used the elliptical and ab lounger also. -

Kat, they changed all my meds. after banding. I now take the inhalers, Flovent, and Spiriva, I also take Singulair, and at times Allegra. For my rescue inhaler, I use Albuterol. My Pulmonary doctor hopes that my weight loss will improve my asthma. I am sorry to hear about your tumors, and am amazed at how much you are able to do. Interestingly Kat, when I was working I used to be a Registered Vascular Technologist. I did all the Doppler exams for my hospital, and for all the HIP groups (an HMO) located in the Queens, N.Y. area. I hope all goes well with your dad's doctor visit and with travel. Betty, we are here to support one another, so don't feel badly about venting. I'm glad you and your dear friend cleared the air. It happens even among the best of friends. As for you, Miss Julie, you are hot stuff!! Work it girl !!! Welcome back Amourette, glad you had a nice time. Thanks for checking on me Boo, I'm trying to be very careful so that I don't get any worse. So far, so good. This fickle weather is just not good for a lot of people! Have a great weekend everyone! 40 mis. workout. Roberta -
For those at goal weight or almost there??
Ceparano replied to ricanlady's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
The question is, do you really need a fill ? You don't want to make yourself sick because your too tight. I'd up my Water intake, and make sure I'm staying away from sweets. How long have you been working out? Sometimes the inches come off before the pounds. Hope you see some results soon! Roberta -

Interesting question... I am 35 lbs from goal and it's very difficult. On one hand I'm desperate to get there, on the other hand I find myself doing things to sabotage my progress. I bought an Alfani suit in September and when I put it on this weekend it was way too big. Who would have thought that would ever be a problem! I have clothes in size reg. 18,16, and one or two 14's so I really don't need to buy much. Every once in awhile I purchase active wear in my present size and give them away as they get too big. I still think of myself as 100 plus #'s over weight at times. For the most part I'm in the long-term normal mode. Trying to make these changes a way of life. My asthma started up yesterday so I haven't been exercising. Hopefully I can back on track. Roberta -

Hi Julie, thanks for aking about my asthma. I'm doing very well this year due to the mild weather. I've also been very proactive since my hospitalization last year for my asthma. However, the weather is getting cold now, and by the weekend it's going back up to the high 50's, that's when my asthma is usually trigger so time will tell. In the meantime I'm trying to use this time to my advantage and maybe...just maybe, I'll be able to meet this month's challenge. I sure wish my knees and asthma would allow me to join you in your run. Boo, my pattern for weight loss is the same, nothing until the last week of the month and then....boom! 5#'s gone. Hey, I'll take it!!! Roberta -

Wow Julie what a fantastic NSV!!! I am so happy for you. BTW, that is a very nice picture of you, thanks for sharing. I'm having trouble figuring out what size I am now. Some clothes I have from Talbot's size 18 are too big, and the 16's just about fit. In a womens size I need a 14 or 12. My Alfani suit I bought in September, size 16, is way too big now. I can't figure out why your coat would fit you at your present weight when it didn't when you weighed 190. Are you sure your scale is accurate? Sorry I'm no help. Julie are you signed up for the 4 mile Snowflake race out of Long Beach? Went to Curves this morning 45 mins. and did 2 miles with DH this afternoon on the boardwalk. It was such a beautiful day. -

Well Ladies the offending Pecan Tarts have left the building!!! I took them to the group meeting. After the meeting, there were several cakes, pies, ice cream, juices and soda. I am proud to report that NOTHING passed my lips!!!!! I am so proud of myself because I didn't have time to eat dinner before I went to the meeting. I went to Curves, 40 mins. workout. Julie, I'm sorry to hear about your cold. Pamper yourself a little and feel better. Roberta -

April 2006 Bandits January Challenge
Ceparano replied to JulieNYC's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Something is seriously wrong with me mentally and I could die from shame to admit this. Okay, here's the problem, Yesterday after working out I had to go to BJ"s (similar to Costco) to do some food shopping. I needed to also pick up a dessert for a group meeting I'm attending tomorrow night. I found what I wanted for the group meeting, and also picked up a tray of some petite pecan tarts. I thought to myself...they're small and I can have one from time to time and it will quench my sweet tooth. Incidentally, this sweet tooth is something that has developed within the last week. Okay..back to my point what the #%&*!! is wrong with me??????? I have 6 #'s to go to make it to one something...I am so disgusted with myself. What would make a sane individual do something so crazy? Those sweet syrupy pecans and the buttery tart crust. That was a brilliant idea!!!!!!! I really feel like bawling right now.....Thanks for listening. Roberta -

April 2006 Bandits January Challenge
Ceparano replied to JulieNYC's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi everyone! Kat sorry about your jaw pain. Hope your favorite dentist made it in. Susan, I suffered with sciatic nerve pain running down my leg on and off for several years. I hope your PT helps. Up until my forties my weight stayed at 125 which made me look like I could use a good meal. Many people were rude enough to even voice that! I slowly crept up to 145, then 150. I started gaining a lot of weight after my hysterectomy, but even at 200 I never looked fat. I seem to carry my weight well. Even now, my pulmonary specialist calls me a skinny 205. My weight continued to climb after 2001 to a whooping 270 thanks to steroids. That was my weight at the time of surgery. I know that 125 is not what will work for my at the age of 60 and 5'5''. My goal right now is 170, and like everyone else has said, I'll see where I end up. In the early 80's I went down to 165/170 due to being deathly ill from two surgeries back to back. I think I looked pretty good at that weight. But...there is no way that I will meet my goal by April since I only lose 5#'s a month. I've tried on my Summer clothes and they are a little loose so that is an accomplishment in itself for me!! I too am looking forward to not being overweight. Besides getting to 170, my goal is to get off my blood pressure medicine, and possibly all my asthma meds. Went to Curves this AM, 45 mins workout. One down 16 to go!!! Roberta -
How is weight loss for people over 50?
Ceparano replied to debi717's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi everyone, I'm 60 and was banded 4/24. My weight loss averages 5 lbs per month. I workout at least 3X a week and I think that has helped. I'm 35 lbs from goal. I think we older ones can do anything we put our minds to!! Roberta
