Hi everybody, I have my pre-admission testing set for April 6th and my tentative surgery date of April 17th. I'm having a hard time staying healthy. I was hospitalized 11 days in the beginning of Jan. for Asthma, and I'm very sick again . Back on antibiotics and steroids, with the steroids making me look like the good year blimp. Also , if I don't get this under control they definitely will not do my surgery unless I'm off of steroids at least 2 weeks. As for the pre-op diets, my doctor doesn't think they are worth the stress they put on the patient. However, I remember reading on another thread that the pre-op diet helps after being banded because you do not get the bad withdrawal from no carbs, sweets, and having nothing but liquids right after surgery. Some mentioned feeling very weak and shaking with pounding headaches from the withdrawal. So I would suggest you try to tough it out knowing it wont be forever and that it will work toward your advantage after surgery. I think I will also try to get off carbs before my surgery date, hard as it is. Wishing the best to the April Bandsters, Roberta

nightwich6: I understand how you feel. But look at the flip side. You'll have so much support when your feeling low or have questions. Also , with so many "eyes" on you it will keep you honest. No chance of breaking the bandster rules while at work and getting your hand caught in the cookie jar so to speak.:nervous Also, you've done great on your weight loss so far. I think you, like myself, have a hard time accepting compliments and over think everything. Keep up the good work and chill!!! Roberta Nanster: Just tell people that you can tell by the way your clothes are fitting that you've loss weight but that your not hitting the scale for a couple of months, and thank them for their interest. After all, as women we all know how the scale can lie. If anyone keeps pushing for exactly how much you've lost, then I'd say they're asking to be told off. That is IMHO.

Hi Sparkling, I'm not banded yet (hopefully April 17th). From what I have read on other threads, Gas x is highly recommended, as well as heating pads. They say the bloating will go away soon. I'm so excited for you and your new beginning. I wish you much success. Take it easy and don't do too much. Just let your body have time to heal. See you on the other side. Roberta

Yeh...I've gained 15 lbs since Dec. I got very sick with my Asthma and ended up in the hospital taking huge doses of steroids which sent my weight up. I have a tentative surgery date of April 17th(if ins.co. doesn't denie me) I will try to loss this by then but the doctors office is not putting any pressure on me. Try taking those weight loss teas and getting in some exercise. That should do it; but don't worry you'll do fine! Congratz on your surgery date and I'll see you on the other side.:clap2:

I don't plan on telling anyone outside my family except one close friend. Everyone else, if they ask I'll say I'm being careful what I eat due to a problem with my stomach. I will not elaborate. It's none of their business, and I don't need the negativity!!!

Where did you purchase this? Do I have to go to a stable? Any info will be appreciated. Thanks. Roberta -

Ceparano replied to dsrjrr's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
DsrJRR, Hang in there. I know it must be so hard to be patient. I hope to be banded some time next month and I am sure I'll be writing the same thread:p -
Arthritis treatment option for use as a topical ointment

Thanks so much for the info. I have been wondering how I was going to manage without arthritis medication after getting my band. -
 Congratz to all of u who are scheduled to go before me. I know you'll do fine. Just keep remembering why u started this journey in the first place. Roberta

Your family will be so happy to finally see you healthy and happy that I don't think they will stay angry at you. If they are angry, just tell them that you didn't tell them before hand because you were already anxious yourself and didn't need the added stress of worrying about them worrying. Did that make sense?

I've told my dh of course, and my two grown sons and their wives all of which are supportive. All others I intend to say that I had a test done and they found something in my stomach ( which they truthfully did, I have 3 polyps) and that I have to have surgery. As I loss weight they will probably assume it has to do with my stomach surgery.

OMG.....I can't believe it....we must be twins, separated at birth....:biggrin1: Those are my sentiments EXACTLY, on every count. I made my decision to get banded back in November, only to find out that my ins.co. required a 6 month documented weight loss. So.....I hope to be banded sometime in April. The wait is driving me crazy, as well as the "complications" threads. I keep wondering if I am making a mistake attempting this at my age (60 in July). Also, will I be a turtle? Will my intestines twist due to the weight loss? Will I PB in public? Will people look at me while I eat? Will my husband resent my weight loss? Will the sky fall? ect.,ect.,ect.

I think it is more likely that she had Gastric Bypass. I've seen her on the View several time eating food. She didn't chew, chew, chew, and went along sampling several dishes that they were featuring on the show. From what you guys have said I find it unlikely that she could do that without getting that "golf ball" effect in her chest, or sliming. What do you guys think?

Can bandsters still throw up when sick ?

PB stands for productive burp -
Thank you!!!!! I thought the purpose of this site was to gain insight. For someone to blantly say " they're not going to waste their time" to read medical data speaks volumes on a closed mind. Why bother coming to this site?????? Of course that's OMHO Roberta

You've ONLY LOST 33 pounds in 9 weeks....... GGGGGRRRRRRR I wish I could say that! I hope to be banded in April. Don't get discouraged, you are doing great!!
-
I don't get it. Why would you get rid of something that has helped you loose so much weight? Being afraid of what MIGHT happen is like being afraid to cross the street because a car might hit you. I'm not banded yet, but I intend to work my band hard because life is so uncertain . But I will not let my fears control me so much that I forget how great a gift the band can be for those of us who had no hope before it.

It's good to hear the success stories. I hope to be banded in April and am concerned that I my be a turtle. You've done well with your 23 lb weight loss. When were you banded? Stay focused and keep up the good work, you'll have to have that dress made smaller in no time. Roberta uote=aligirrl77]SOOOOO today i saw a client of mine (who i havent seen in a while) who had the band put on last may... and i swwwweaaar i had to do a tripple take she lost so much weight (maybe like 70+ lbs). I was in shock! I was so happy to see her bc it just confirmed my notion that thiiis thing reaally works. I mean i know the band works...but sometimes i get so discouraged reading on these sights about how people have a hard time loosing the weight and/or are having problems... i was sooo happy all day i was beaming ear to ear. I just know this was the best thing i could have ever done for myself health wise and not to mention it gives me hope to be able to sqqqquuuuueeeeezze into a bride * randddddom side note- i was so pissed when i bought the dress in the first place being plus size and all- finding out they only made the dress UP TO a size 16! i mean what the heck is that all about? If i wasnt planning on having the surgery or loosing the weight somehow i probably wouldnt have even been able to be in my friends wedding. I was soooo pissed about that and still am!

Erin, I am so sorry you had such a long hard struggle. Who could possibly blame you for being discouraged. You are right though, who is to say what would have happened next with another port in place. You need to be able to take care of that beautiful family of yours, and give your body time to heal from these infections. I think you'll remain a bandster at heart and continue in your wls journey. GET BETTER QUICK. (((hugs)) Roberta

Congratulations, I'm so happy for you. I hope that's the way I feel in April.

I am going through the same thing with GHI. They require this as proof that you have actually tried with a doctors help. I agree it makes no sense, and is sooooo frustrating!!! I'm 3 months in and this waiting is killing me. April can not come fast enough. Don't give up your quest for good health no matter what hoops they make you jump through. Hang in there.

Wow, he sounds like a real pill!!!! Can you afford to look for another job? Sounds like your giving 110 percent and not being appreciated. I hope things turn out better for you. Whatever you do, don't let him find out you read that letter. Roberta

Sinus Infections - SICK OF BEING SICK!
Ceparano replied to CaliQueenBee's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Sorry your not feeling well. Go to your local Vitamin shop and get Olive Leaf. It is a natural antibiotic and works wonders for colds and flu. Take it at the first sign of trouble. Roberta -
Hi Sharon, I'm not banded yet( doing the 6 month wls approval) for my insurance company. I'll be sixty in July and I know how you feel!!! I sure wish I knew about this process ten yrs ago.:hurt But..... what do they say? better late than never. When will you have your surgery? I expect to finish this whole process sometime the end of April/May. Roberta

Endoscopy results/hernia/bacteria...arghh!
Ceparano replied to Sunta's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
You absolutely must treat that stomach infection. I also suffered from chronic yeast infections until I started eating yogurt every morning. No problems since then. You definitelty will not be able to have surgery until that is treated. I wish you well. Roberta
