    One year Surgiversary

Yes! You have a healthy glow and I agree you look younger. Happy anniversary and to your new life! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  2. I would be frustrated too. The first few weeks are very challenging. I started my journey with a BMI of 46.8 at 5'2". At my 6 week meeting with surgeon my BMI is 36.9. At this BMI, he said he wouldn't have qualified me for surgery. I was given a goal of 60g of Protein a day (or do my best). I also was on pureed foods for first two weeks, NO scrambled eggs. I realize every Surgeon has their own program for patients to follow. I did not have a drain. I am 3 mos post RNY. Keep following the program and doing what Surgeon advises. Hair Loss

I am 9 weeks post op from a RNY and things are going well. I'm losing an average of 0.5 lbs a day (yes, I weigh myself daily). I have lots of hair and haven't noticed any thinning yet. Is hair loss a given and how far down the road? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  4. @@swizzle you mentioned something about energy. I had RNY on Apr-13 and do not have the energy I expected since losing 36lbs post-op. I haven't started exercising because of a bad sciatica and low energy. Surgeon and primary told me to be patient and may take up to 6 months to get full energy. Frustrating. Help me

I had trouble getting all my Protein in post RNY (Apr-13). I'd sip enough to wet my tongue, very, very slow. I never gagged or vomited but it was difficult. I still drink one Protein shake a day at Breakfast with coffee and milk. Keep us posted. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Raw carrots are EVIL! Beware!

I just bought a bag because I thought the sweet crunch would be great. I've been able to eat raw red peppers ok. Thanks for the warning. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    What are yall eating

I started eating raw fish (bluefin tuna) at around 5 weeks post RNY. I make a spicy tuna tartare that is wonderful. I had a small amount of sushi rice and nori with it. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  8. I could not stand my Protein drink I used pre-surgery and immediately following surgery (Shaklee). I now use unjury and Inspire which are not chalky and have good flavor but are on the sweeter side so I mix with coffee and milk. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  9. There are different philosophies within my hospitals team of Bariatric surgeons and we find this out during support group breakout sessions. For example, one surgeon allows Fluid intake along with Protein "snacks". My surgeon does not allow fluids for 30 mins after eating. The nurses who are in attendance have to ask which surgeon we had before confirming diet guidelines. I stick to what my surgeon had advised. My guidelines are eat protein first, veg/fruit second and starch last. I get full very fast (I have to work on eating slower). I too would be lost without yogurt. That is my go to food. Even yogurt gets stuck.

I graduated to soft foods after about 3 weeks. A woman in our support group had same problem and vomits. If it were me I'd ask my surgeon. The first month is hell. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  11. I weigh myself daily and always did when dieting. It keeps me focused even when I experienced a recent stall. I'm 8 weeks RNY post op. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  12. I'm 8 weeks post op (RNY) and have not been able to exercise due to a terrible Sciatica. I'm in physical therapy working on resolving it. I want to walk but I also have low energy. I'm anxious to get energy back. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  13. Ugh... Protein drinks. I'm 8 weeks out (RNY) and experienced low energy. Nurse gave me some unjury to try and I love it. I also bought Inspire Cafe Latte and drink every morning mixed with cold coffee and 1% milk for my iced latte fix. I feel more energetic but not 100%. Everyone tells me to be patient. Day at a time. 14. Don't be too hard on yourself but take back control. You lost all that weight. Be proud and get back to being healthy. Best of luck. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  15. I'm 8 weeks out this past Wed. I hit a 2 week stall and was very disappointed. I know this is common by reading posts on this site. I also attend a monthly support group and nobody ever speaks of how much weight they have lost but rather the decrease in BMI. Some people weigh themselves daily (I do) and some weekly. Make sure to follow the guidelines as you will lifelong. You will do great, keep the faith. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

  17. I could never get all the Protein in immediately after surgery. I'd get so full. The surgeon said do as much as I could. I didn't start supplement (except multi vitamins) until a few weeks out. My energy level was very low. I am on a nasal spray of B-12 (Nascobal) once a week and Iron. I also take calcium. supplements Prescribed by surgeon thorough Nutrition Direct. 18. I had RNY on Apr-13 but no problems with laparoscopic sights. I didn't need any pain meds once I was home. If it were me I'd call my surgeon tomorrow - don't take a chance. Good luck. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    RNY Gastric Bypass Surgery

I'm also in Milwaukee area and had my RNY on Apr-13-2016. It was difficult for me to get all required liquids and Protein in. I HATE those little 1oz cups and I got so sick of my Protein shake (Shaklee). I tried unjury Protein powder (given to me by nurse) and much better - no chalky taste. I still am having trouble getting all my protein and had NO energy a week ago. Everyone told me to be patient and now I feel much better. Still not 100% 45 days post op but improving. I'm introducing all sorts of new foods which is awesome. I can no longer tolerate the taste of eggs so my surgeon said stay away for a couple of weeks. My husband roasted some Roma tomatoes with little olive oil and salt and pepper. My new must have food along with watermelon. Good luck to you. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Depression and Hormones

My RNY was on Apr-13-2016. Was seeing Therapist and Psychiatrist pre-surgery for major depression caused by multiple deaths in family. Surgeon suggested to see them about 4-5 weeks post-op. My surgeon is awesome and believes working on mental health is just as important as physical health. Good luck to all. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
