Hi [emoji4] I have Lupus (also an auto immune disease) I had my surgery in July 2016 at the time I was on 10mgs of prednisone. I know this isn’t lung disease but being on meds didn’t effect anything. I went from 315lbs to 180lbs in just under a year and am now currently maintaining that. My surgeon was very good and did do some extra (what he called precautionary) things to ensure I had an excellent recovery. I’m happy to talk if you want to PM me? I know we’re not talking about exactly the same thing but getting a VSG was one of the best decisions I ever made [emoji4] no regrets at all and it has definitely helped with my Lupus symptoms.

Right after the surgery it was really hard to hit both of these goals, but now I hit my protein goals daily. Water I often hit but I really need to think about it. All I drink I coffee and water, so that helps. I'm not a fan of protein shakes so I eat my protein each day, the only supplement I use is in protein balls that I make and eat for breakfast. The rest is in jerky, cheese, yoghurt, chicken, beef, milk. I use MFP to track protein, which makes it much easier. -

I had the same fear of being put under I think we all do but you just have to trust your Drs and decide if it's worth the risks. I can promise you that having this surgery and losing the weight will help with all of these things. The difference in my self esteem and how I feel about myself alone is incredible! I no longer have sleep apnea, back pain or high blood pressure and that was after just 6 months. Do you have the full support of your family?? And will your wife be your exercise buddy?? -

9 Months Post Op and loving life [emoji4]

Not trying to sound unfeeling but why are you scared?? Is it going under a general anaesthetic?? Or other reasons. I was scared too, but I think it was just of the unknown. I was also a high risk patient as I had a BMI of 40 and I have Lupus. I was on 10mg of Prednisone (an immune suppressant) when I went under but it was do this or risk heart failure and die. And if you're wife goes first you'll have her to lean on and also tell you what to expect, in a general sense as everyone's different. -

Getting it done with a partner would be great and you'll save so much on food cause a single serve will do for both of you eventually. My partner and I rarely go out for dinner or any kind of meal now as it can be really difficult at first. But I went out for lunch with my family yesterday and did really well and really enjoyed myself. So you've given me new resolve to try and fix that [emoji4] -

How you feel post op depends on you, your surgeon and just general luck. I was really lucky and had no complications [emoji4] I did the liquid diet for 2 weeks, then puréed for 2 weeks and was then cleared for regular food. When I first woke up I felt pretty ordinary and they wouldn't let me drink anything. I also vomited a couple of times, which was a little scary. But I figured out it was the anti-nausea meds that were causing it, weird I know. My right side incision and whole right side were pretty sore for about 2 weeks and I took lots of naps. But after about 2.5 weeks I felt pretty good. Being around people who are eating is weird when you're on the liquid post op diet. You don't realise how social eating is until you can't. Even though it was hard I used to try and go and sit with my family at meal times. Then the challenge is figuring out what full feels like, I get the hiccups and feel a little gross. I know it's time to stop then. Since the surgery I've vomited once from over eating and I got the warning signs and ignored them. The best advice I can give is, figure out what full feels like and stop when you get there and take the pain meds during the first week post op. Good luck guys, you won't regret it! I've found the benefits far outweigh the risks and the things you give up. It just becomes your new normal [emoji4] -

I can't believe it's been almost 9 months since this life changing event for me! It wasn't until I put these photos beside each other that I realised just how do different I look. HW - 140kg or 310lbs SW - 132.5kg or 291lbs CW - 84kg or 185lbs Surgery Date - 7 June 2016 I've dropped 10 dress sizes and lost 54kg or 120lbs and am now wearing and Australian size 12 top and bottom. I've never been a size 12 in my entire adult life After having a pretty shit year last year, I'm so glad I did this I can pretty much eat anything now, just obviously in much smaller quantities. -
I have Lupus and take many drugs, I find that's it's easier on my stomach if I eat something small straight after taking them. I had a gastric sleeve 7 months ago and got diagnosed with Lupus 6 months before that. Due to having a suppressed immune system I have to take antibiotics all the time. Just watch out for thrush, take a probiotic too [emoji4] Hope this helps.

When I woke up after surgery I felt okay, groggy but okay. The anti nausea meds they gave me made me throw up and I did about 3 times when they took me to a room. It was a bit scary but okay once I figured out what was making me vomit. Since being sleeved on Jun 6 16, I've thrown up about 5 times (not including when in the hospital) throwing up is different when you have 1/4 of a stomach and in my opinion not as bad as when you have a whole stomach. As long as you read the signs your body is giving you when you eat (I get the hiccups and feel full) and stop eating, I've found that I never throw up from over eating and can pretty much eat everything I've re-introduced since surgery

I was sleeved 7 June 16. Starting weight was 140kg or 310lbs, current weight is 86kg or 190lbs. I was worried about loose skin as well and I defs see a tummy tuck and breast lift or augmentation in my future. But when you drop 10 dress sizes to a size you never remember being as an adult you stop worrying about it so much lol I'm lucky with regard to my arms, I notice the loose skin but no one else seems too and I'm still comfortable wearing short sleeves. Loose skin or not this was defs the best decision I've ever made for myself and I feel amazing I'm now able to play competitive sport again and kill it at the gym. I'm also able to shop for clothes anywhere I want and they're not super expensive. All the benefits far out weigh the loose skin and exercising will help a little if you set up a routine and stick to it as soon as you're cleared by your surgeon. Hope this helps

I didn't have any complications and no flares during my recovery but I was on meds [emoji4]

I have Lupus and was sleeved about 7 months ago. I was only diagnosed at the beginning of this year. My story and WL journey are a pretty long story lol, but happy to share if you have specific questions [emoji4]

Jobey replied to Jobey's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I did liquids (broth, yoghurt, soup, coffee) for 2 weeks then purees for 2 weeks then real food again after a month. But I had a dietitian that he works with give me the all clear not him himself. He's great isn't he?? [emoji4]
