I've never had the greatest relationship with food and have struggled with dieting my whole life.  However I wouldn't have even been considered a candidate for WLS if I hadn't have been diagnosed with Lupus (which is an autoimmune disease) at the beginning of the year and put on a drug (prednisone) which changes the way your body processes glucose - it turns it all into fat and stores it.  Since January I have put on 25kg or 60lbs and nothing about my eating habits changed.  Granted they weren't great to start with (chocolate, complex carbs and processed foods are my downfall lol) but no drastic changes.

I was referred to my surgeon through my cardiologist as my first encounter with Lupus almost killed me as I had confusive restrictive pericarditis.  Which essentially means that my heart couldn't beat effectively as the lining around it was so inflamed and the fluid was in excess and infected.  My heart is now doing much better due to the drugs that have caused me to put on so much weight - gotta love the double edged sword lol.

But bright side, if I wasn't diagnosed with a chronic illness and put on this medication I never would have been considered for WLS, so now at least I'll get to skinny with a chronic disease :)
