Hi Friends... I will probably be banded November..God and insurance company willing... but was just dx with HTN (high blood pressure )a few days ago. Not a great surprise given the extra work my weight puts on my "ticker"... But I am curious about how banding and resultant weight loss has done for others and their issue with hypertension... Nancy

Anyone else have bc/bs insurance
mammanan replied to karibensea's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I too have BC/BS.... BMI 44 when I started and no comorbidities Gave a 5 year diary... Because it had been more than 2 years since my last "supervised" diet attempt of 6 months duration... I did the 6 month diet ( lost about 5 lbs...but focused on behaviors... protien first, chewing well, fluids not with meals, etc)... Once I finished the "diet" approval went through quickly and without a problem. Good Luck!!!! -
How much did you loose before Surgery?
mammanan replied to AudsMom's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
You may want to add 0% to your poll... I was required to do 6 month supervised diet.. lost less than 5 lbs... worked on behaviors... My 1 month "bandiversary"was yesterday and I am down 30#!! YEAH!!! -

Can't fit in enough healthy stuff
mammanan replied to MrsFlipFlops's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My dietician recommends getting in #3 8 oz glasses daily..one between each meal.. that adds about 24 grams right there and also gets in a good dose of calcium and vitamin D..That leaves me only having to get in 31 more grams for my recommended 55 per day. I warm it up in the evening with a little splenda and vanilla and it really works to chill out my night time munches. -
hi...another newbie here..just banded 11/6... Needing to get into an exercise routine.. and hoping checking in here might hold me a bit accountable.. Monday I started back with 30 minutes of intervals on the treadmill.. missed yesterday but plan to hit Anytime Fitness with 20 minutes on the ellipticall and 20 minutes on the bike after work.

mammanan replied to mljalways's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Banded 1/7... so I get to go in for post op visit tomorrow.. On clear liquids til then... Things have gone great except..any one else having "loose poop" issues.. Can't wait to give my bowels a little more solids to work with...Hopefully things will bulk up a bit before I go to work on Monday. So far...down about 20lbs since start of pre-op...YEAH!! -
No Depression - Will that get me denied?
mammanan replied to jackiemhornig's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I don't think that having or not having depression plays any real factor in whether insurance will approve.. It is not usually a co morbidity that influences the insurance companies on way or another... But if you suffer from depression... it is nice to get help early either with meds and/or therapy to get you feeling better in the mean time... Good luck -
Thought for today:smile2: I think for many of us getting to a "normal BMI" may not be possible or even healthy because we can lose fat and build lean muscle but we can't wish away the extra skin and supportive tissues or the increased bone mass we have developed to carry all this extra weight... For me..in all past weight management attempts, I have always tried for a number. a certain weight as being successful and anything short of that to be failure..... But NOT THIS TIME!!...Every right choice made/ bandster rule followed/ evening at the gym/ blood pressure pill no longer needed to be taken is a victory!! Victory is in the journey and not just the destination!

blood thinner injections
mammanan replied to angel95812's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had to do it during my last pregnancy... and will with my surgery as well. It wasn't ( and won't be)too bad... gave me piece of mind that I was preventing clots..and since blood clots (having survived 5 blood clots in my lungs early when I was pregnant) are my biggest worry with my banding, I am so glad that a simple injection significantly decreases that risk... You Will Do Great!!!! Oh...definitely take th pictures...they can tell a story that the scale might no always show... -
I was just reading an article about hiccups... that they may be caused by the stomach bumping on the diaphragm.... I wondered if, since the pouch can trigger shoulder pain which is diaphrgm irritation, if anyone had noticed a problem with hiccups too?

mammanan replied to LundyLane's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Do you have Diabetes? If so are you on meds for it? Have you checked your sugars? -
knot/lump in stomach
mammanan replied to BIGDSWIFE's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It could be an abdominal hernia.... Might wanna check it out ... -
Benign PVCs are common ( ever noticed that they are worse during TOM...mine are)... and I would be very surprised if they caused any concern about with repect to getting a band..
-
I am not yet banded but have started, as per the dietician, a multivitamin and extra vitamin D. The vitamin D should not be too much problem post band as they are quite small little pearls, but what multivitamin ( liquid/chewable) are you using after banding?
-
I would ask your surgeon why he thinks it is needed.. Does everyone get one? That seems very excessive if you have not had a recent /significant history of clotting.
-
Do you have a history of DVT or PE?

Just how long do scars actually heal??
mammanan replied to aubrie's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Scars will keep "maturing" for up to a year or so... And my scars from a previous surgery when I was a teenager still itch when the weather changes...go figure.. -
Well I had mine a few weeks ago.. really no big deal... She asked about history, mine and my families, family support, talked abit about normal challenges with change in life style/ body image. I had taken the MMPI ( an hour or so long personality inventory ) at the previous visit ... and we reveiwed it... Absolutely no surprises... Piece of cake.... I think everyone's eval is a bit different.... but I wouldn't sweat it to much...

Lovenox anyone have to self inject for 2 weeks ?
mammanan replied to nicolerose's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When I was pregnant with my youngest, I developed blood clots in my lungs. So for the rest of the pregnancy ( 6 months) I was on twice a day Lovenox. injections..The only real problem it caused was with nose bleeds...And I ended up with a healthy baby and a clot-free me. I am glad you posted this question because I have not yet gotten to the bariatric physician assessment to ask about clot prevention but given my history... I am asking to go on Lovenox post op... Good Luck!! -
Boy it sounds like you have had a rough couple of years....but.. you have already taken some huge steps ...Making a decison to get healthy and to ask for help is HUGE!!!... I can so relate with that feeling like you are in a insurrmountable rut... but you are taking all the right steps to climb out of it!!! Remember that nothing happens overnight.. meds and counselling take time to work and this lapband process can be a bit frustrating so just hang in there..... Welcome!!!!
