Question for those with good restriction
msmommy replied to Mom2_4's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I could have written that myself! Somedays I can barely swallow my own spit and other days I can eat like a horse. What gives? LOL -
Just moved, need a Dr. in MS, AL or FL who will adjust band.

I ended up using Dr. Avara in Ocean Springs. Did you ever find anyone? -
I am 5 days post-op and still on clear liquids. I can tolerate some things, and other things I throw up. For instance, today I drank some diluted apple juice and within minutes I could feel a huge knot in my stomach all the way to my back and then I start spitting it back up. I have a call in to my Doctor, but I am really concerned about my band. I am a self-pay so the worry is even more intense. Did anyone else have this happen? If so, is your band fine? Thank you so much to anyone who replies.

He said I should not be vomiting on clear liquids. He asked me if I hear a bubbling noise when I swallow I told him yes, everytime. He told me that I have alot of swelling and my band is really tight. I now have to stay on clear liquids until I can start keeping them down and get this..I have to drink with a teaspoon! It is so hard! He told me if I can't get 2 liters down a day I am gonna get dehydrated. The good part of this is I am losing about a lb a day right now. I just hope I don't get dehydrated. <!--IBF.ATTACHMENT_21138-->

I live in South MS and am being banded in Mexico 2 weeks from today. I am also looking for someone to do my fills other than Dr. Avara..that price is crazy! Let me know if you find anyone. I have called all the way from Mobile to New Orleans with no luck. -
I agree about the negative comments. I actually had to quit reading most of the threads here because of it. You can't judge how successful you will be by others. That is what I keep telling myself. Hang in there!

This is the MS forum..I think he was kidding you! I am from the coast as well.

We live in Hurley..I am sure you know where that is!

Wow! You have lost 36 lbs..that is GREAT! My bestfriend goes to that same gym you are speaking of. We actually live just North of Pascagoula.

I am going to Mexico next month. I researched it so much and finally realized that it was a good option for me since I am a self pay. I cannot find a single complaint about the Dr I am going to. I will let you know the outcome. Good luck!

I am also from South MS. I have had a consult with Dr. Avara, but have decided to let Dr. Ortiz in Mexico do mine. The price is cut in half and I am a self pay. mrsjiggles I would love to hear how your progress is?

I was determined to self-pay, but I called my insurance company today and they will pay 100% if my BMI is over 40 and I do 6 months with a Dr. under a diet program first. I am 7 lbs away from my BMI being 40. 7 lbs is nothing right? I could gain that in no time. I know it seems silly to gain weight first, but it's only 7 lbs and I could keep my $15K I was gonna pay. Any thoughts?

Dones anyone know how much a self-pay would generally pay for gastric bypass vs. lapband? My price from my Dr. for Lap Band is $15K. I wonder if the Gastric Bypass is about the same or more? All of this talk about fills and the port is making me queasy. LOL! I am sure it is alot easier than it sounds though. :cheers2: My girlfriend is having gastric bypass next month and she will go home the same day as her surgery, like the Band. Has anyone heard of this? I thought the stay was much longer. How did you make your mind up to have the band instead of Gastric Bypass?

Anybody feel like this is JUST NOT WORKING for them?

I am sure the double post was an accident.. I am very sorry you are going through this. It really puts a perspective on things when I have such a tough decision to make on this surgery. -
Thanks once again for all your replies. I did talk to my Dr office today and the cash payment is $26K for the Gastric Bypass! That is wayyy out of my range! Anyway, it looks like I will still be moving forward with the band. I am so glad I have ya'll to help me through this. Thanks again!

Thank you so much for the information Janet. I am just trying to figure out what is best for me, you know? Congrats on your superb weight loss!

Sorry if these are questions you hve answered a hundred times. I am just looking for a little more insight. :cheers2: 1. Do you feel full most of the time? How much can you eat to feel full? I know it depends on how tight your band is, but generally speaking? 2. I have been reading through threads that some people are only losing a few pounds a month. I am really confused about this. It seems with your stomach so small you should lose more, right? :confused2: 3. Generally, how long would it take to lose 75 lbs? 4. I have read you cannot drink caffeine or drink with your meals. Why is this? 5. My pre-op diet will be a 10 day liquid diet. What can you eat on a liquid diet? I eat alot of ice..can you eat ice? Thanks so much ya'll.

Hi, my name is Kim and I am seriously considering having this surgery. I am scheduled for a seminar next week and will make my decision from there. I will be paying cash for it (taking out a loan) and I just wanted to get a little feedback from everyone. I have researched it until I am blue in the face and would like to get some advice from people who have actually had the surgery. I am 5'6" and weigh 230 lbs. I have yo yo dieted my entire life with little or no success. I have Insurance, but with my BMI at 37 I have to have two medical conditions along with my weight for my Insurance to cover this. I am gonna pay $15K for it and that is everything and 15 months after the surgery for adjustments. How soon do you need an adjustment? How often? Any suggestions, thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Does pre-op excercise help post-op recovery?

I agree the walking would be a great start. I plan to start walking soon. -
Thanks so much for all your replies. That is alot of money and I just wanted to make sure the surgery is worth it. I know it will be alot of work on my part too, and I am ready for it.

Those of you who are self-payers...

The Dr right near me charges $15K for the surgery and fills for 15 months.
