Does your dr's bariatric program have a nutritionist that tells you exactly what you are supposed to be eating when? At my dr my nut tells me EVERYTHING, writes out sample diets, gives me lists, writes out a schedule, meets with me at all of the followup appts, everything. From what I am reading it sounds like some dr's don't have this?

Preparing for the pre-surgical liquid diet
p3photogal replied to ColoradoChick's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I have to start my liquid diet tomorrow...2 weeks pre-op. I have a few different protein shake options, and will be going to costco friday to get a large tub of slim fast powder unless i decide i like the atkins shakes better. I also got a few flavors of the isopure protein water type drinks to try. I have to have 70-75 grams protein, and 200-250 calories for each protein replacement meal 3-4 times a day depending on the amount of protein, and then clear liquids besides that, broth, water, crystal light sf jello, sf popsicles, and sf fudgesicles. -
I just had garlic and herb chicken con brocolli from olive garden for my "last meal" I also treated myself to desert, but i only ate about 3/4 cup of the pasta, one of the small thin chicken breasts and all the brocolli and had salad with it. So it wasn't TOOO bad! lol. I haven't had desert yet, I am saving it for snack! lol.

Doctor says eating too few calories...????
p3photogal replied to Banded08's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
your body is going into starvation mode. -
my dr told me that if that happened to me he would switch the port to the lower profile one, they can't do it at first because they would need an ultrasound to find it! he said it's a very very quick and painless procedure.

HELP: how to make Nectar protein tasty?
p3photogal replied to Zannie's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I was told today to be careful of the test tube protein shots...they are incomplete proteins and you have to have a complete protein in order for them to be absorbed properly. I would look into it, or talk to your nut about it. She just told me about it today... -
thanks everyone! I can't wait! I had my 3 hour nutrition class today and realized i start my liquid diet this thurs!!! AHHHH.. hehe, i am making my husband do it with me, he wants to lose weight too, and was planning to do the south beach detox for the first two weeks, but I convinced him just to follow mine! i am so excited for surgery, but now it's finally just starting to hit me that it's really here! My nutritionist is awesome, and I am hoping that since I don't really get hunger pangs, that i can keep my eating to the suggested amounts. I am kind of convincing myself that I am having RNY, so that I don't introduce the sugars and carbs that got me here. I was origionally having RNY and switched to the band when tricare started covering it, so it's not a hard thing to fool myself with! haha. thanks again and I will keep you all updated!!!

What's the port like at goal weight.
p3photogal replied to Jachut's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
my dr told me if the skin gets thin enough that you can see the port when towards goal weight, he would switch the head of it with the flat one so that it's invisible again. The reason they don't start out with the flat head is because they have to be able to find it when we are not so size 2. So keep sculpting away on those washboard abs! -
honestly, and no offense intended, i know a lot of people who rush into plastics, when in all hoenstly, the skin is SO thin that having that much hanging skin can not possibly be all skin, there is still fat under there. So working out and waiting at least 18 months to 2 years or more is your BEST bet to see how much SKIN you actually have. A lot of times the skin is not nearly as bad as it could be. I have no been banded yet, but my best friend is a year and a half out of her gb and has been working out every day since she was cleared to do so. Her skin is not bad AT all! The only plastics she will likely need is her breasts, and for a while there...the skin looked awful. So just keep working at it, and give it some time. I am hoping and praying that I won't have to have a tummy tuck, but I KNOW that i will have to have augmentation or a lift done on my breasts.

try looking at exercisefriends.com They have a forum type thing where you can hook up with someone else to run, walk, hike, bike whatever with. I have a friend who found her running partner there and they kick eachother's butts!
