advil can eat through the lining of the stomach, any ibuprophen can. most dr's recommend only tylonol. I wouldn't take advil anyways without my surgeons consent. -
I am a wedding photographer, getting banded on April 3rd. My dr and nurses assured me that at 9 days out i would be fine to photograph a wedding. What do you all feel from your experiance? i am not going to be carrying anything but my camera and tripod at time, I have my husband assisting and i hired a second shooter, but angles and bending and twisting is more what i am scared of. If I take advil/ibuprophen do you think the pain will be ok?

I am freaking out!!!! Blood work!
p3photogal replied to VIRGO_GIRL824's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am pre-diabetic, your A1C is higher, but the fasting glucose normal range is 70-120 not 65-99...not sure who told you that. So don't worry too much about that, they won't do anything for the glucose levels, it will come down when you have the surgery, it's one of those things that goes away after losing 10-20% of your weight. the fatty liver...that will just mean the pre-op diet will have to be strict so they can get around it to do the surgery. i am not sure about the hep...hopefully that isn't an issue -
welcome christie! I am so glad to have this little support group of our own! Amy, that's so funny that you had your meal at CP...I am there ALL the time! lol. We should definitely keep in touch and we can meet up and shop if ya want too! hehe, I am a shopahaulic! So I had my first WOW moment tonight, i know before being banded! lol. I had to gain weight to get the surgery, I was not technically 100 pounds over weight, I had lost a little before the consultation so I had to gain about 17 pounds. So since that consultation, I have been trying like heck to lose what I put on, but the scale was STUCK! So I have been stuck at 226.6 for three days now, it would go up to 227.8 and down to 226.2 at different times of the day (I am scale obsessed) and tonight, at 8pm it finally went down to 225.6!!! I was saying all day, I just want to see 225 I don't care if it's 225.9 Just a 5 instead of a 6. And I got my wish! So I was really excited! I was so scared that since my problem has always been due to PCOS and insulin resistance, I get at a weight and can't budge. I was petrified that this liquid diet would prove the same as every other diet and I would lose one or two pounds and then get stuck.

on pre-op liquids...did anyone have a problem ummmm going number 2? lol. I have been constipated from it and I am wondering if that is normal? I am trying to decide if I want to take ex-lax or something...never had to do anything like that before, so this is a new one for me! I am on day 5 of my pre-op protein shake and clear liquids diet.

well breaks in weddings, don't really happen. But during the Ceremony we are normally only allowed to be in one place, so it's kind of a break, standing behind the tripod or hand holding instead of racing around a reception! lol. And then at dinner time we get to take a bit of a break once the detail shots are taken. i don't use the 70-200 too often at receptions, except to get some detail shots. I may just let my second shooter use it, she's been jonesing over one for a while! lol -
Hey! I am right near Fredericksburg! whoo hoo someone somewhat close by! lol If you check out Vitamin World or Vitamin Shoppe, they are cheaper than GNC and they have a fridge section of different Protein shakes that you can buy one of to try them. I am going to check out muscle milk as i have been told it's pretty good. Just make sure to stay on whey Proteins. Soy proteins you have to take in a lot more of to get the required amounts. And stay away from those protein "shots" they say they are 23 and 46 grams of protein, but they are incomplete protein, so in order to get the protein out of them you have to take in a complete protein as well. I have to get ready to meet with my nut, so i will write more later! BTW my name is Kris!

yeah the only lens i am worried about is the 70-200 IS which weighs a TON, but I only use that on tripod or monopod. And i think I will probably keep it on mono for the whole reception so that I am not actually hand holding the weight. Thanks everyone, you have helped to put my mind at ease. this wedding, I am booked for 8 hours, and my husband will be doing all the carrying, I will be shooting and I figure as long as I keep sip sip sipping, I should be good. -
hey girls! YEAH! more people to share our day with! lol I think I did pretty well, I "cheated" on my liquid 2 week diet today, but i kept it to 4 oz of mixed Protein, I had some kalua pig, grilled chicken and greens. But no carb foods or anything and no drinks! i was proud of myself! Came home had a Protein shake since i just had the one this morning and all counted up hadn't had enough protein for the day. I also weighed myself and only went up .2 pounds since i left...I am a slave to the scale...it's not good and i know it! we shall see tomorrow what my weight is.

Help w/ protien powders ??
p3photogal replied to kitcatnap's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
ick the grape to me tasted the worst and SMELLED AWFUL! i tolerated the pineapple one. Pre-surgery...my trick is using a straw that bypasses the front tastebuds! It makes it soooo much more tolerable. I really like slim fast optima choc royale, it's the only one that I actually enjoy drinking. I am ordering the unflavored unjury powder to add to it, and praying it doesn't change the flavor too much. I just had an atkins shake and it was ok, not as sweet and lighter than most, which was nice, but still not as good as my slim fast! lol. nectar shakes are good in some flavors, but dilute them in more Water or crystal light sf koolaid than it says to! Or they will taste WAY too strong. The one i like right now is a tropical something....it has a coconut taste, pretty good! Everyone's tastes are different. Champion Nutrition shakes aren't too bad either, but again dilute them more water or skim/1% milk than is called for or they are WAY thick. I haven't tried muscle milk yet, that's my next one. Myoplex...eh, not so good, but i can do it with my straw trick. I bite the straw so that I get it slowly and don't let the shake go back down the straw so i don't get air. I am hoping that in time I will be able to try that trick after banding... I hope that helps! -
pre opt question ?
p3photogal replied to oneangelinva's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had mine done a month or so ago, and it was nothing. They put you out and i didn't even have a sore throat. Took the night to get energy back after the anesthesia but other than that, I was totally fine. Quick and easy, my husband said that 15 minutes after he left me, they came and got him to tell him it was over. lol! -
they reason most dr's don't start with a low profile port is because they would need an ultrasound to find the port for fills through the fat. So it's an additional procedure where they switch it out when the time comes. Just talk to your fill dr, see if they could switch it for you.

Position of the port
p3photogal replied to slimmy120's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
He told me it was a really quick procedure where just the top of the port is switched, so not the whole procedure, just the tip of the port where it connects to the tube. -
I am on day one, I have done pretty well, I am not hungry at all, I never usually am. So I have about 32 oz of Water down, a shake and a half, the champion shake gave me a stomach ache. So for dinner not wanting to take in the Protein shake of any sort, I had some egg drop Soup (1 cup) and now about an hour and a half later i am having some chicken broth since I haven't consumed near enough calories today OR protein. So now my options are: To get the protein in - have a nectar Drink (23g protein) but not enough calories have a nectar shake (23g protein) and have a slim fast shake 190 calories and 10 grams protein to get the calories in the ball park of 800 for the day, but would overdo the protein....my nut doesn't want me going over 70-75 and that would make 83 for the day. What do i choose?!

I just ordered more samples and davinci syrups! hehe. Sorry didn't mean to get your hopes up for something exciting... Kaluah and Peppermint Paddy...anyone tried them?
-
I got them at unjury.com you can also get samples of a ton of different protein shakes at vitalady.com
-
I am drinking slim fast right now, and just ordered some samples of unjury. I am trying to find a good unflavored powder that i can add in to my water and things. I have to get about 70-75 grams of protein because i am short, and 800-1000 calories. It have a hard time getting the calories and protein in, i am not hungry enough. The slim fast shakes only have 10 grams of protein, so I am looking for an unflavored or a good choc powder to add into it that won't alter the flavor too much because i actually LIKE the slim fast choc royale shakes. Tomorrow though we are doing hawaiian easter at my friend's and they are doing kalua pig...i might have to steal a few bites (of just meats so still protein calories) and not have a shake. They are moving to Japan so it's the last one we will have in at least 5 years and that's if they move back here instead of moving to Hawaii from there instead. But i figure as long as I am still drinking my water, and staying only with healthy calories and protein I should be good...and that will be the only time i allow myself to cheat. lol..yeah justifying!

Losing too much weight
p3photogal replied to VegasGrace's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would talk to your nut...my nut told me that when i get to the maintaining stage to drop protein a little. in one small chicken breast there is 40 grams of protein. We normally over do protein in a normal diet as Americans. So maybe really look at where your calories are coming from and adjust from there? -
Ugh yours is way better than mine! haha. I am allowed 3-4 Protein shakes a day, and Clear liquids, sf popsicles, and sf Jello. It's been going ok, I got a really bad headache yesterday because my dr's office told me a different time and it ended up getting pushed back an hour and a half, so i ran to costco and OMG liquid diet in Costco on a holiday weekend!!!! they had samples of EVERYTHING on every endcap. It was rediculous. But I just got the things i was there for and left. I was so proud of myself! lol. It ended up being about 5 hours between shakes and i am insulin resistant so it wasn't a fun experiance. Now I know to bring a cooler lunch box thing and keep a shake with me. Other than that i am just doing everything I can to keep on the liquids. Isopure is NOT my friend, gave me a major stomach ache. Going to try a champion shake again today as it has a good amount of protein. My surgery is here in VA. Good luck in Mexico!
-
Hi Gina! So glad I have a band buddy! I went for all of my final stuff yesterday and now just have one more class with my nutritionist before surgery and then it's just around the corner! I woke up with a major stomach ache this morning, thinking it was from the Isopure that i forced myself to drink to get enough Protein in for yesterday. I have got to find a more palatable way. What are you doing for your pre-op diet?

Position of the port
p3photogal replied to slimmy120's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
you can ask your surgeon to switch it to a low profile port. That's what my surgeon told me he would do when it comes to that.
