Does anyone know why my nose runs when my sleeve is near full? So weird!
MNovalis replied to gwbicster's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was told that your body is making mucus to lubricate the passage in preparation for you to vomit and some of it is making its way out of your nose. (Sorry for not having a better way to say it.) This happens to me every night when I eat, or attempt to eat, dinner. -
My thyroid was underacting PRE-surgery and now 1 year POST-surgery I have an appointment with a surgeon to have my thyroid removed because it has become overactive and I have developed Graves disease and have several nodules that are causing problems. If its not one thing its another......

Why do we fall off the wagon? & How to get back on?
MNovalis replied to bostonmama's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Most likely, the best thing that can happen in our weight loss journey is to 'fall off the wagon' a time or two. It reminds us that we are humans and still capable of failing. That our surgeries were not a fix-all for our bad eating habits that got us in the shape we were in to begin with. I don't know about the rest of you all, but I have learned from my falls what I can and cant eat, what my new stomach wont tolerate and that eating carbs today means I may just gain a pound tomorrow! Its all a learning process and many of the things I have learned are from falling off of that wagon! -
Since about a week before my surgery, I began telling everyone, EVERYone, that I was having WLS. So far, no haters. And if they do surface...oh well. I've got bigger problems to deal with. Like shopping for new clothes! :-) Seriously though, once I reached the 75 lb weight loss mark, I even went on facebook and posted before and after pics and announced to the whole 'world' what I had done and to my surprise, got nothing but support and "Wow, you look great!" And even a few curious questions about how they could do it. I'm over 50 years old, I aint got time to deal with haters! Life's too short for that mess! If people cant be supportive, then they can watch my 'slimmer' backside as it walks away!

Starting Process- BCBS Alabama
MNovalis replied to Divamsv's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The insurance coordinator at my surgeon's office took care of contacting my insurance company for me and she is the one who got together all of my info for me. She was AMAZING! And my primary care physician said, "Lets take this 6 months to make sure that we've got all our ducks in a row and not give your insurance company any reason to stall or turn your down." Since I was 50, we took care of my 'lady doctor' visits (as he called them) as well as my colonoscopy and he even went ahead and ordered a sleep study. As soon as the insurance coordinator at the surgeon's office faxed the last report from my 6th month visit to the insurance company, I got my approval the next morning and my surgery date was scheduled for 2 weeks later! -
Starting Process- BCBS Alabama
MNovalis replied to Divamsv's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am in Alabama and have BCBS as well. Of course it always depends on the individual plan itself, but I had to go through the 6 months of Dr supervised weight loss to gain approval. BUT, I don't regret it. You really do need that time to get your head wrapped around what you are about to go through, what you are about to put your body through. And it will go by pretty quickly in the grand scheme of things. My surgery date was here before I knew it! Sent from my LG-V410 using the BariatricPal App -
Girl, you got this!

I'm a little late to this party, but I do believe in the prophetic and waiting on answers, etc. Let me ask you this. If your gall bladder, or appendix, etc. were giving you trouble would you wait for a 'sign' or 'answer' to seek medical help and have it surgically remedied? I questioned having the sleeve surgery in the beginning too. And then I thought to myself, I trust medical professionals in other areas to take the knowledge that God has placed in them to 'fix' me, so why wouldnt I trust them to 'repair' my stomach and do something that can make me a healthier person? I have ZERO regrets in that decision! ZERO! I hope that you have decided to pursue the necessary steps to a healthier you, whether they involved surgery, lifestyle or whatever avenue you felt lead to pursue! God Bless!

Sleeveaversary and onederland same day!
MNovalis replied to Sweettee23's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Awesome! -
I agree with pixidust on this one. Call your surgeon! Its one thing for things to just not taste good, but to go for 3 days and get NOTHING down and have the sensation to throw up all the time, I would think something was wrong. Please call your surgeon. Better safe than sorry. Also, you must be dehydrated by now!

Stalls immediately after surgery
MNovalis replied to Losing_it_for_me_42's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Absolutely what the above posters said..."Just keep doing what you are supposed to be doing!" Keep getting in your protein and fluids and the weight WILL start to fall off. It has to. My longest stall was a little over 3 weeks and I attribute it all to stress. We were moving into our new house and I was hardly eating at all. I was only getting maybe 300-400 calories a day and I could NOT understand why I wasnt losing weight. Sure enough, once the furniture was moved in, and all the boxes delivered (stress was relieved) the weight literally began to melt off again! Just hang in there! It will happen! -
How does everyone deal with the social pressure to eat while eating out?
MNovalis replied to Travelher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I also have the cards from my surgeon asking that I be allowed to order from the child's menu, but I have yet to use them because nothing on the child's menu looks very appetizing. I order a normal entrée and ask for a 'to go' box when I order. Knowing that I will sometimes get 3-4 meals from one entrée is this bargain shopper's delight! And sometimes I just order a bowl of soup. I feel no need to explain myself to my server. I pay for the meal and I tip. If I have a complaint about something I will speak up. I am always a pleasant customer and try to leave with a smile on my face. -
Who knows about your surgery?
MNovalis replied to jessgnc's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
In the beginning, it was only my husband, children and the co-worker who's success inspired me. But as my surgery date drew closer, I told my close friends at church, my sister and a few co-workers that I trust. Now, AFTER surgery, I dont hold back, LOL! Anyone who has asked how I've lost the weight gets the truth! I even got brave and posted pics and the BOLD truth on facebook! -
Does anyone else experience a type of gurgling sensation when eating? Sometimes I am only 2 or 3 bites in when it starts. The only way I can really describe it is to say its kind of like when you loosen the top to a carbonated drink just a bit and the air is trying to escape. I am 3 months out from my surgery and it has pretty much gone on the entire time.

Luckily, I've already had my gall bladder removed prior to my sleeve. But I did just spend a week in the hospital trying to pass a rather oddly shaped kidney stone. Doc said that it was directly related to being dehydrated and all of the greek yogurt I had been consuming (calcium and protein!) But, I'd still do it all over again to achieve what I have in the past 3 months!

I just had to have a cat scan as well as x-rays this week for a kidney stone and they told me that while the staples showed up, they didn't cause a problem.

How long before you could go back to work? (desk job/non physical)
MNovalis replied to ella37's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had my surgery on Wednesday 8/3/16 and I went back Monday 8/8/16 . WAY too soon. But having a desk job I thought I would be ok. I am at my desk part of the day, but a big part of the day, I am also running back and forth between people in a manufacturing shop. I should have taken 2 weeks, easily. -
Trouble getting protein and liquid requirement
MNovalis replied to gustavio's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you can sip broth, try bone broth as opposed to just regular broth. It has 7 grams of protein where regular broth only has about 2. And a lot more flavor. I started using it to thin out my cream soups too. I also found some great flavored protein powders, like pineapple coconut, that I sprinkle over a semi-melted sugar free popsicle in a bowl. AWESOME! If you can get creative with them, the protein powders can work for you! -
I'm ok thanks, just dehydrated and my blood pressure is running low. My doc is adjusting my meds.

Dumping syndrome can definitely cause havoc. Like everyone else is saying, time will tell those triggers. And your actually reactions with the dumping syndrome can vary. Sent from my SM-G935P using the BariatricPal App I'm pretty sure this is what happened to me this past weekend. I pureed some Soup because of the high Protein content (19 grams) but I failed to notice the carbs. Well, I also failed to notice that it contained Pasta. I only got down about 2 ounces before I felt full, but that was fine because it was 'real' food and it tasted SO good! About 30 minutes later, I made my way back to the bedroom where my husband was and told him I didn't feel so well...next thing I knew, he was helping me up out of the floor. I had actually passed out. I wont go into detail about everything else that had happened, but it is definitely something I do NOT want to go through again!

I am 13 days post-op and am struggling with extreme fatigue as well. We recently accepted an offer on our house and have been trying to pack up to move in a couple of weeks. And I returned to my full time desk job 5 days after my surgery. (Gee.....wonder why I might be tired....) I am basically living off of my protein shakes, but I still come draggin in the door after work knowing I have to get busy packing boxes. I keep telling myself that I'll rest 'this weekend.' But I just dont see a light at the end of this tunnel. Hopefully going on some solid food in a few days will help.

I have discovered that if you go to a place where they specialize in nutrition, unlike GNC, they LOVE helping you! I went into my new favorite local place called Alpha Nutrition and they LOADED me up with sample packets of protein mixes. All kinds of flavors and none of them have that horrible chalky powdery taste. I am currently in the middle of a pineapple/coconut shake that I would drink even if I didn't need the protein! It has 1 carb, 0 sugars and 27 grams of protein. If you tell the people who work there what you need, they will help you specialize a plan that works for YOU. At least the owner here is doing that for me. You don't have to be stuck with yucky shakes and choking down your protein. This IS do-able!

I'm with you too! My husband and I are bikers and he had patches made for our vests from Philippians 4:13 "I can do ALL things through Christ who strengthens me..."
