Weight loss is slowing only 10 days post op
Miss.Bunny447 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Maybe it's just me; at first I was losing a ton of weight and this seemed to be the norm especially in the beginning from what I read. I was able to lose 20 pounds exactly during my pre-op diet. And now that I'm ten days out; I've only lost about 3 pounds a week since surgery. I'm following the post op diet. And on average I'm only getting about 350 calories in a day. (That's all I can seem to get in) I take my post op Vitamins. I'm eating low carb, extremely low sugar... Getting all my fluids...don't get it. Am I doing something wrong? Weight loss is slowing only 10 days post op
Miss.Bunny447 replied to Miss.Bunny447's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I guess what I'm trying to ask is; is the amount of weight I'm losing normal? Am I supposed to be losing more? I guess I was under that impression since I read a lot of people lose weight quickly. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
I don't know what it is, but I keep waking up in the middle of the night, dizzy, with a cold feeling in the pit of my stomach; then a wave of warmth and nausea comes over me and I have to run to the bathroom only to dry heave. I haven't even started purée because I was advised not to. All I've been doing is sipping a Protein shake once a day, eating a scrambled egg, drinking 4 oz of Gatorade and the rest of the day is Water. I have no appetite. I don't really understand why, so randomly in the middle of the night my body wakes me up to dry heave. Am I doing something wrong? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Just wanted to give an update. Tonight (again) I woke up with a wave of nausea but not nearly as bad as the night before, and no running to the bathroom and vomiting. I added more pillows underneath me so I slept on a bit of an incline. And I took my nightly meds spaced out a half hour apart (because it's a lot of swigs of Water for me to take at once) I have to take 4 pills at night and I used to be able to get three of them down in one shot, but not anymore. I get a feeling where the pill feels "caught" a lot of things feel caught when I swallow them but I was told this is a really common sensation. And I took the nexium and zofran right before I fell asleep. Let's see what happens. Still 0 appetite this morning. I'll be skipping the egg until a couple of weeks pass, and I'm gonna see about getting some pudding to try. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

Yes, I think I will. I spoke to the on call doctor but he didn't understand that the only thing I was "eating" was scrambled egg and assumed that I was trying to push foods when the bulk of what I'm doing is drinking. I just didn't like his answer or the fact that he didn't really pay attention to what I said. Do you really think it could be a leak? I did the swallow test and they said it was fine. That worries me. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App I'm taking zofran for nausea; what meds stop the cramping? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

I'll switch out the egg for one of these things instead. I've been living off Powerade and Water, which is no Bueno. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

On my post surgery food, it says slowly introduce flaky fish, ricotta cheese, hummus, Greek yogurt, egg (scrambled). I asked the nurse if it was okay if I stayed on liquid for a little while longer because I didn't feel ready for any of that; and she said yes. But I was experimenting with the scrambled egg since they gave it to me within 24 hours after surgery, but if that's what's causing the problem, then I'll wait. Ok, I'll try eliminating egg. I was served a scrambled egg in the hospital so I'd figured I'd try it. I am working on getting a prescription for pantoprazol. But they messed up the script by writing 60 pills for 30 days when it's a 24hour pill. So the insurance wouldn't cover it. If I get a few nexium would it be the same? Disclaimer; I know I'm not getting enough Protein in, but I'm m getting what liquids I can get in. My surgeon just said liquids take priority right now to food. Just get liquid in. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

How does the sleeve compare to gallbladder surgery?
Miss.Bunny447 replied to GSV's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Geeze my gallbladder surgery was bad. I was in the hospital for 4 days and in a lot of pain. I could barely walk and had no core strength. They also repaired a hernia while they were in there; I'm not really quite sure if it was the hernia repair that caused me so much pain or the actual gallbladder removal, but I was really really sore. I'm hoping that getting sleeved isn't as bad. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

Wow, no vitamins? Not even chewables made for Bariatric patients? Geeze that's rough. I know I'm not getting enough vitamins and minerals from these Protein drinks alone. So that's why I added these in. My Pre-surgical nurse said all my meds were fine. Except I can't take my metformin the morning of and I am not allowed NSAIDS either. I'm 5 days into my liquid diet. I am having no problems whatsoever with hunger. The Protein keeps me satisfied thru the entire day. My only problem is, I am EXTREMELY tired. I'm taking my Bariatric Vitamins and everything, I just have ZERO energy, and to boot, I can't have caffeine. What kind of things can I do to boost my energy in this stage? Getting ready for tomorrow liquid diet
Miss.Bunny447 replied to D'Sleeved's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
All the Syntrax flavors I've tasted are great. But I have to admit, isopure has a lot of Protein. If you find a flavor that you can tolerate keep a few bottles around for times your having a hard time reaching your protein goals. And as D'Sleeved said, you can always add Splenda or stevia to help with the taste. But I personally vouch for nectars. I have Fuzzy navel and Roadside Lemonade at the moment. Fuzzy navel tastes almost like a less sweet sunny D and Roadside Lemonade tastes exactly like lemonade. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

Miss.Bunny447 replied to Miss.Bunny447's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm supposed to really have 4 shakes a day, but I can only get down three. My goal is 60-70 grams of Protein, and often with my three high Protein Shakes I am able to exceed my goal. I'm not really doing any eating other than my three shakes because I'm simply not hungry between trying to hit my Water goals and my protein goals. I'm taking optisource Vitamins which contain Iron and calcium three times per day, the bottle says you can take up to four. But at max I take three which has only helped slightly. What am I missing here? Besides not having my Soup and Popsicles I feel like I'm doing everything right. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Mental health clearance issues
Miss.Bunny447 replied to WitchySar's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Continue to go to therapy and build a record of proof of your stability. Understand that people having this surgery who have mental health issues are considered higher risk often times because of their lack of emotional stability, ability to handle disappointment ect. A lot of emotional changes occur during this journey, and they have to know you can handle that without be a danger to yourself. Also, be aware that being institutionalized recently will also cause the same set backs and often will get people denied. Once you go to therapy and build proof of continued stability; it should be easier for you to get psychiatric clearance. Best of luck. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
