My surgery is on June 3rd. I started my diet this past Friday and gosh it is so hard at times. Food has been my comfort and my friend for so long this is a challange. But I am also struggling so bad because I have been a smoker for years and having to give them up has been nearly impossilbe. Has anyone else had to give up these two things at the same time? How bad does it hurt if I cheat every couple of days and have a smoke?

Thank you KristenLe. I'm going to do my very best. I am so ready to start really living like I have wanted to for so long, instead of excluding myself from everything because I am so embarrassed I cant' keep up, can't breath, one thing after another. I've just been so miserable for so long, isolating myself from just about everyone. I am ready to join in on all that I have been missing! And thank you for your sincere and caring response, this is the first time I have really spoke on this site and was afraid I would get a negative feedback!

some surgeons will test for nicotine (and other substances) during your pre-admission testing, and will cancel your surgery if nicotine is detected. I know its hard but believe me, its for YOUR benefit. would you rather quit smoking or potentially get a life-threatening blood clot after surgery? ... try getting a vapor cigarette and use the 0mg liquid. that is how I was able to quit. it satisfies the hand-to-mouth. I also quit months before my pre-op diet. I don't think I could have quit smoking and eating at the same time. good luck to you.
