I was advised by the surgical nurse that I shouldn't use any type of hair products containing ALCOHOL 24 hours prior to surgery. She stated hair gel as well as hair spray. I've had many surgical procedures and never once has this been an issue. Has anyone ever heard of this? Normally, this wouldn't be an issue, but I have a HUGE public event the afternoon prior to surgery.

Thanks so much for all the comments! The goofy thing about it all is, there was nothing mentioned about showering or lotion or deoderant... Just no ALCOHOL hair products for 24 HOURS. I mean, I'll be sure that my hair is clean -- but nothing for 24 hours?? And what really threw me was it came at the end of the sentence... ...No ALCOHOL to drink 24 hours prior to surgery -- and that includes hair products with Alcohol in them. WTH?? I think I was simply stunned to silence. I couldn't wrap my brain around it. At any rate -- the plan is, look fabulous for the event, come home and wash my hair. End of story.

^That's the SPIRIT!! By the time you see the doc for your post-op follow up, they will have seen so many other patients, they won't remember. I have been awake during several procedures in the OR, believe me, they're talking about EVERYTHING but your nakkidness :cool2:

It's on my approved CLEAR liquid pre-op diet. But they asked me to keep it decaf. I slowly weaned myself over a 2 month period, so I didn't get the caffeine withdraw. I'm currently on day 7 liquid Protein diet. I begin the clear liquid phase for 3 days pre-surgery on MONDAY! Good luck to you...

You could call MEDICARE and ask if there was a facility/doctor near you that would take your insurance for that procedure. It would save you calling all over town -- just one call to them. I have Medicare also and was worried that I wouldn't get approval. When I talked to my surgeon's office, they told me that they had ever only had 1 Medicare claim rejected. Good luck to you!!

Best of luck to you -- I'm on day 6 of nothing BUT liquid Protein shakes. I've got my pre-op w/the Surgeon on Friday and then we're GOOD to GO... Hang in there -- it's not as bad as you think. Think about all the benefits down the road.

It was actually my Brother who came up with SHRINKO de Mayo -- at our house we're always looking for a reason to celebrate!! He was banded in July of 2006. So far he's lost over 220 pounds. I'm incredibly proud of him. I know it shouldn't be a competition -- but what's a little HEALTHY competition between bandster siblings??

I'm sorry the mistake was made, but it was good that you followed-up to clarify things. It's hard to remember that the office staff are human. I know how much paperwork it was for me -- imagine handling it for EVERY patient! Still -- here's hoping that your paperwork will be submitted soon. Hang in there -- it's worth it!!
